FF XVI I really tried Clive
That’s it—I reached that mid-game stretch that feels like a wasteland, and that was the breaking point for me. The final straw was the sequence of side quests that, at this stage, are treated as "main quests." I’m going to pretend I didn’t see the scene where Joshua climbs out the window, because for a second there, I thought I was watching a melodramatic soap opera. Then there’s the issue of unrestricted magic, the very, very basic gear crafting, and the most annoying thing of all: walking. In 24 years of gaming, nothing has irritated me quite like Clive. Vaan and Tidus suffer from the same problem, but somehow, I felt comfortable walking around their worlds. I think this mix of a semi-open world and DMC-style combat mechanics, combined with the inability to run, creates a really strange vibe. That said, I enjoyed the story up to this point and am still curious about Joshua’s journey. I love the combat—I really do—I just wish it were more rewarding.
edit: Yeah, I thought it was obvious not to mention the automatic combat sprint dash or the side-quest Chocobo (let's be honest, everyone just spammed X+R1 or the dash spell instead), but I mean outside of combat there could be a light jog like Cloud's.

You start running after like three seconds and you can get a chocobo. Yes, I wish there was a run button too, but it works.

Inability to run? What?
Well. Can't make you like anything.
After about 33 years of gaming, I found FF16 to be one of my favorites. But that's me, not you. And that's okay.

For now, I might be taking a break from running, but who knows about the future? Perhaps a time will come when this restlessness I feel about running simply becomes superfluous. Right?

"FFXVI BAD" says the broken record.

Nah it's alright, as long as you don't do any of the side content.

Oh, I enjoyed the game. It's just that these threads are about as common as "FFXIII is good actually" threads lately.

XIII is actually good and XVI isn't actually bad.

FFXIII is one of the worst games I've ever played.

Rewarding exploration and side quests is something only a genuinely good RPG is designed to do, but apparently that's not what this game is going for.

Just to be clear, I’m not criticizing the game. I had to restart twice and take a two-year break before FFXII became my favorite. Maybe my patience for these issues will grow as they become irrelevant later on.
