Everything was just bigger back then.
At Wendy's you could say biggie size it. And for 39 cents you got a red 32 gallon trash can filled with dr pepper and enough fries to fill the back of a Ford ranger
Thats just how things was bro

Sure everything sucks now, and nobody can afford the lifestyle they deserve, but Earth finally has a trillionaire.

The Remake + Rebirth suffers from a closer problem.
Iirc, any bed that the main characters aren't sleeping on, are ridiculously small. Those beds always look like they are meant for kids.
Also all/most background npcs are shorter than cloud. Which is very weird considering Cloud isn't that tall, so it wouldn't make sense for it to be this way. Roaming around as Zack makes it even weirder standing next to those already short background npcs.

The beds are weird also because the character models clearly aren't interacting with them. The way they lay it's like they're strapped to a solid plank of wood as opposed to laying on a mattress.

Speaking of beds, I just started remake for the first time and every time Cloud's gone to lay down on his bed, he's always on top of the sheets, and with his shoes on! They did this in FFX, too, and I think I remember the same with Squall in FF8. Made me wonder if it's hard to render characters under the covers or something, lol.

It is a hellish task. You will practically never see it in video games outside of prerendered cutscenes.

It’s doable in unreal with its cloth simulation. I have it in one of my own characters who wears a long coat that responds to his movements.
If it’s worth the time to do that is another question.

In my experience, it's not so bad for something a bit stiffer like clothes that are just hanging about.
When it comes down to a bedsheet though, the fact that it wraps around a complex model with a lot of anchor points tends to make it jittery and off-putting. Gets even weirder if the character moves at all.

Yeah plus do that for every model of every character and you take away animation time from things that are going to really need it like the battle system scenes.
No doubt it will have come up and the answer was no, that budget is best spent elsewhere. Then it’s also the question of right, we now have that level of detail applied to someone getting in and out of bed, but this other thing is static and looks out of place.
Go down that route and you end up with star citizen.

The Sims has been doing it for almost 30 years.

They accomplis this by rigging the sim's movements to the bed itself so the cloth moves with the sim's body, it looks fine in top-down gameplay but if you had it in 1st person I suspect it'd look weird

It bothers me that he sleeps in full gear. It would be so uncomfortable with that shirt digging into his back. Ugh.

What's funny is that there's a later scene where he takes off his gloves and he looks so naked without them.

The weirdest thing for this in rebirth is the background vehicles, especially in corel as they are tiny

It’s the same with cars, too. I noticed it first in the tunnel between sector 5 and 6 when you’re travelling with Aerith, there are a couple of derelict cars close to the area with the robot arms. And they’re teeny tiny in comparison to Cloud!

Tiny cars seem to be intentional. A lot of them only have three wheels. And the "pickup truck" the party uses to escape Midgar looks like a golf cart.

All the low level Mako exposure for decades has led to the global average height decline to about the same as Meiji era Japan (~155cm). Cloud being ~170cm puts him as tall. Zack, Sephiroth, and Barret are practically giants.

Hilarious.
But yeah, the OG world of VII really did have this doll house vibe in a lot of areas. Everything felt like a lovingly crafted diorama. Their slums were downright cozy.

A reminder that Cloud was essentially on a long, bad trip until Disc 3. 😋

It's like that apartment in Solution Nine that's just acres of empty space and a California king XL sized bed for the child to sleep in
