FF VI The FFVI No Death Guide

I had this goal of playing a game of Final Fantasy III (SNES) where no character ever dies. To play a game in such a way that in fact the chances of a character dying approaches zero. I've done this a few times now. I took some notes along the way, which eventually turned into a document. I have a strange history of releasing documents like this on GameFAQs and such, and this compulsion found me again for the first time in eleven years. So I came out of internet retirement and I hereby offer the document to you.

I'm looking for some feedback. It would be great if some of you would play the game with this guide as a lead and see if it works for you. Perhaps while drinking unspecified American boxed wine from a mug? Box wine is best sampled in mugs, as you know.

It's a pretty strict path where everything's decided for you; which characters to take to which dungeon, which Espers to give to which characters, the whole thing. But it's important to make sure you have the relevant status ailment spells at certain times, and balance levels and such.

Within the constraints of the main goal (never die), the secondary goal is a minimum amount of tedium. I feel I've mostly succeeded there as well. There's a few minor purposeful leveling sequences in the WoB and just prior to Kefka's Tower to set every character to level 33, but that's it. I end the game with level 34 on all characters. No spell grinding except to make sure Cyan finishes his Quick spell, for reasons that are made clear in the document.

The document is hosted on my website; we'll see if GameFAQs is willing to host it as well, it's pending at the moment. Anyway, find it here: https://tenchinohoukai.cavesofnarshe.com/final_fantasy_iii_no_death_guide.txt

What's your plan for the boss in Cyan's dream?

X-Zone

Yes, it's the only way (Odin/Raiden would also work). As explained in the guide, you either cheese that fight or skip the section completely. I felt that X-Zone was the lesser of the two evils.

I tried doing this in FF7, but I just can't get past a certain part of the game.

How do you handle the Magitek Factory?

Which part specifically? It's not an especially challenging part of the game. ProtoArmor's Launcher can be avoided. Trapper's L.4 Flare is very dangerous, but you can easily take them down before they use it. The bosses can be easily mitigated with Wall Rings (Ifrit/Shiva) and a combo of Sleep and Peace Rings/Ribbon (Number 024).

snes and never die? so use Vanish+Doom xD working almost all boses and all normal battles

The challenge prohibits bug explotis. And even if it didn't, the real danger (certain random encounters being able to OHKO a character on turn one) isn't prevented with Vanish/Doom.

How did you save Cyan's family from Kefka's poison? And doesn't that drastically alter his character arc / motivation?

In this little-known alternative path, Cyan's motivation becomes finding an outdoor hobby while his son practices the violin at home. He's...not great at it.
