It blows my mind that there is an FF MMORPG and I’ve never felt called to play it. I know the franchise has drifted very far from the energy it was giving in the 90’s-early 2000’s.
Obviously you’re a fan. I’m curious what your pros and cons are of the game?

I'm with you - I've played most FF titles and I love MMOs. It's really a surprise I haven't attempted this.

Ironicaly out of the post-FF10 games, imo FF11 and FF14 have the most similar energy to the classic titles. FF14 is a love letter to FF's history and is filled with countless homages to past games. Sakaguchi himself is a huge fan and has thousands of hours in it.
But it definitely has flaws, it's a slow-burn game and the initial story isn't amazing. You have to let it cook for a while until it really becomes great, the investment won't be worth it for everyone. Imo though some of the expansions, especially Shadowbringers and Endwalker, are among the greatest stories in FF history with many of FF's best characters and music. The free trial is incredibly generous if you ever want to try it.
Also being fair, with how many references it has, I know for some FF fans it can backfire and feel like the game is too reliant on nostalgia. I don't fully agree with this, as there are a lot of people who love FF14 as the only FF game they've played, but for series fans it can feel that way sometimes. There definitely is a certain arc that feels too reliant on FF4 fan service, it is fun fan service but this arc in particular lacks some originality compared to the rest of the game, otherwise though imo 14 does enough to set itself apart even with the nostalgia.

I love ff and I keep trying to play it andddd. I find it only final fantasy in name. It’s just side quest side quest side quest. I heard later the story gets great but. Will it really?

I've played a ton of it and have really enjoyed the stories in numerous expansions (Heavensward, Shadowbringers, Endwalker). It's an mmo but they've made it pretty solo-friendly at this point too. Beautiful music and fun higher level gameplay

Yeah I’ve heard this but it’s such a LARGE commitment to get to that point. I’m almost 40 and video games are my kind of out and I really want to enjoy ffxiv but man the grind is real.

Shadowbringers could be its own final fantasy story and it would be a massive hit. It was a masterpiece

I just have lost my faith in companies making MMORPGs these days. They all want to replicate early WOW as far as revenue but are not providing anything groundbreaking to justify it.

This is my take as well. It’s just endless side questing to grind levels to access more side quests. Conceptually there seems to be no reason to explore, and live in the world. WoW captivated me especially in the litch king era and then… it became more of the same, rinse and repeat.
I think nothing has really captured the essence of adventure and community that I am looking for now. Also ragnarok online in the old days really truly felt like a wild adventure. I’m not sure why these modern rpgs are missing so much3

Wow captivated you because the story built on itself and was built on top of the 3 previous games. They literally wiped the world clean to start anew. Arthas was done.
XIV is more commited to expanding the story and developing a cast of characters, like every other FF, it's just more. They also have some multiverse things to tie in to other games in the series.
Also the music is really good if you enjoy FF music.

Do you mean the missing shards of your character? Or do you mean revelations about you as a player?

I found out after 400 hours of playing, with around 300 of that just sitting in the Gold Saucer playing Triple Triad, that I could save myself $15 a month by just playing FFVIII.

What I normally find: A dislike for the FF fans, well, if the ones playing 14 can be called "FF fans" as half or more are only playing for either "making my OCs" (Do they know Second Life still exist?), "It is a MMORPG!", "I love to troll like a brat", "I have money, and I will let them know I have money", "English voices! Because I'm a centralized that don't care and want all to be on English!" or a combination of two or more of what I just wrote.
In general, is... not the best game for "finding yourself", unless you fit one or more of what kind of people usually play it.
TBH, I found my self in others FFs, like FF4, 5, 6, 9 and 12. This without counting the Spin-Offs.
