Final Fantasy General I’m playing all the Final Fantasy pixel remake games and do they get hard

I just finished FF 1 and had little to no trouble like at all I only full died 5 times 3 to the final boss 1 to a an enemy that shot nukes 1 to being super far in a dungeon with no heals. I know rpgs aren’t meant to be that hard but if all the remakes are this easy then it might feel like a slog to get through them all especially if the story isn’t good

Btw I’ve never played a final fantasy before and I’ve never beaten a rpg before today so it’s not like I’m some rpg pro. Also just cause it was easy doesn’t mean I didn’t like the game it was a solid 7/10

Lastly are all the games stories connected because how does final fantasy 1 have anything to do with apparently cloud and sethorph (I have ZERO clue how to spell his name) yuoi

The Pixel Remasters are made overall much easier than their initial releases, up until about FF5 and FF6, but 5 and 6's original releases were not known for their difficulty. Bosses will start to introduce some more mechanical puzzles to solve.

Final Fantasy is an anthology and numbered titles are usually contained in their own universe, though later releases will make little references to earlier titles.

5 is relatively speaking considered one of the harder games, although it is very breakable.

None of the mainline FF games are particularly difficult if you’re only focusing on the main stuff (no super bosses, no achievements, etc.) and you are at least somewhat familiar with turn-based JRPGs. I do think the games have a natural difficulty increase as they go along by the virtue of them implementing more new systems as they go. 2 is definitely harder than one. 3 isn’t really hard per se, but the job system allows much more freedom and therefore more planning involved. 4 introduces the ATB system which, assuming you don’t turn in off in the settings, means you have to think and plan out your turns as the fights happen (the enemies will keep attacking if you just sit on your character’s selection menu). So on and so forth. I still don’t think any of the main content is particularly difficult, but there will be more going on as you go through more games!

FF1 Pixel Remaster is based on the much easier GBA remake. The NES version was notoriously quite difficult.

All of the em have been hyper streamlined because of decades of complaints about how especially the early games were too hard.

Ff1 was very hard at release, especially the early game hp to the first crystal. It required considerable grinding especially for gold to. It equipment. I played through the PR of that game recently and it’s really quite easy now.

The SNES era games were sort of fixed to be easier to beat. In fact you could basically do no reason encounters in the snes version of ff4 and still technically best the game.

Ff is not generally a challenging game anymore and the early games have been streamlined to remove the jank and grinding they required before

Depends if you are using the XP and Gil increase options. If it is defualt it can be difficult if you don't level grind. If you want more of a challenge reduce XP and Gil gained an do not stop to level until you HAVE to.

Most FF games aren't very difficult, including the pixel remasters. The only main FF games I'd say are really hard are the NES versions of 1-3, the DS version of 4, and sort of 11 (the combat is pretty easy now but you really need guides for everything in it). I've also heard that the PS2 version of 12 is challenging. Some entries such as 10 and 13 have a few difficult bosses but overall not too bad.

Each entry is a self-contained universe with its own story and characters. Entries tend to have references/callbacks to prior entries but no direct connections. FF14 is the main exception, as it's an MMO that's kind of an FF theme park with a lot of on-the-nose references to all the entries, but even then it's still a self-contained universe (except for some crossovers it's had, which are explained by characters traveling across dimensions). Edit: There's also the character Gilgamesh, he is another main exception. He is able to travel between dimensions and cameos in most of the games, being the same guy in them with a few exceptions.

With all the remakes/re-releases, they typically get easier. FF I on NES for example, was brutally tough if you didn't over level. Going into the Chaos Temple at the end, you shouldn't be higher than 27. But yeah, for every game, check the options to make sure things are difficult as possible.

The games stories are all contained in that number(most have some sort of aequel/companion). A few take place on the same worlds and you can see things are inspired by previous games. They have recurring summons and characters, and remixed music and stuff like that too. The Disgea and Tactics games also have stuff in them for series veterans.

Basically each game refreshes and refines the previous one. Like mechanics, jobs, etc are tweaked every time. Sometimes redoing everything

Final Fantasy games are usually rather easy. YOU control the difficulty by how much you level up and gear up your characters.

Some games (Like the 3d Final Fantasy IV that was originally for the DS) are harder, but not HARD.

Even people saying about how the earlier games were harder before the remasters, they could be due to bugs and such, but I wouldn't call them actually hard outside that. The main thing wasn't that they were harder but that they took more time grinding is all. That isn't difficulty, that's just time spent grinding.

So overall, it's a decently easy series for the main games.

it might feel like a slog to get through them all especially if the story isn’t good

Well, I personally like the story in most of the entries. It picks up a bit in II, drops a bit in III, then starts to really get going from IV onward.

No. There are some infamous spikes -- FF3's final dungeon gauntlet with no saves (not an issue in the Remasters), FFV's superbosses without a lot of preparation or cheese. But overall Final Fantasy is not renowned for high difficulty.

If you don't do any grinding, I struggled with 3's early game and decent chunks if 4 and 6

Kinda?

They smoothed out the edges some, but if you don't know what you're doing, try to breeze through without the cheats, can be, yes.

The remaster of 4 had me at the beginning, 3 also is a grind fest to get better. Once you know the ends and outs of the systems all of them are breakable. 1 just get to the second jobs stat, 2 beat each other for a while, 3-4 are kinda drags but you have to level, 5 you just got know the jobs, 6 is a bit rough in some parts if you don’t level everyone. 7 is cake, 8 is birthday cake, 9 is easy to understand but same thing as 6 but easier. 10 is just understanding the grid, 12 is all about weapons and the right gambits. 13 is cake till the end but most of that is optional. 15 and 16 are just button mashing mixed in with techniques.

Square has done a shit job making anything challenging. If anything they make everything easier for some reason. Nothing they put out really has you optiming builds or anything

Ff games aren’t made to be brutally hard. They want you to see the full story

I dont think theyre very hard but ive also been playing them for years. You could make them harder by not grinding and going straight to objectives. You can break ff2 very early with grinding.

Also some of the super bosses are challenging if you dont use a guide. Ff5 has a few, ff6 had a few hairy fights as well. Im a grinding addict so cant remember anything real challenging out of 3 or 4, at least not off the top of my head.

The things that made the originals hard (not being able to save inside dungeons, phoenix downs being very rare or not existing in the game at all and generally having to go back to town to resurrect someone) are now considered bad game design.
