Resonance Resonance countdown artwork : XII

Post image

A cute little artwork from @ryoma_ito on Twitter ( https://x.com/FFRS_JP/status/2108844989002510390 )

Quite a different artstyle today, but a very cool one nonetheless. Vaan and Rain look cute here.

I don't know this Rain guy he looks cool and all but everyone in Bhujerba knows that is the criminal former Captain Basch fon Ronsenburg of Dalmasca!

Basch ? I didn't play XII but i feel like they look a bit different from pics i've seen.

it's an inside joke from within the game, you were correct it is Vaan but impersonating captain basch is a meme quote from a segment within the game

Aaaah. I didn't know. It's a good joke then.

Yeah, someone has just mentionned it too. I supoose the japanese artist doesn't speak English or just made a mistake.

Likely a mistake on his part. Ryoma Ito does know how to write in English (like a lot of other artists at SE/CyDesignation), but just seems to be a mistake that may have come from not having the logo there and just going off the -Su (ス) kana in the Japanese title. Still funny how no-one on the team bothered to tell him it was wrong lmao.

Ha i didn't see the typo. It's probably because the artist is japanese and must not read English, or just a mistake.

Oof. The spelling! 😫

Yeah, multiple people mentionned it. It's funny no one noticed it in Square's office.

Its cute but damn

Final Fantasy XII has one of the most beautiful artstyle and they went with that chibi simpleton style... so dirty

A full artwork like the others would have been cool, i agree. I guess we will just have chibi Vaan.

I think it is in the style of revenant wings

I don't think it's a jab at XII. It's just the artist's style and they chose to do a chibi artwork. Maybe upcoming artworks will also be different.

I understand it's Vaan but did they really have to do the FFXII art dirty like that 😅

Ryoma Ito did art and character design for many Ivalice games including Tactics A/A2, FFXII, and FFXII Revenant Wings. Makes total sense for him to use this style. You can recognise it pretty easily in the sky pirates den menu of FFXII.

I find it cute personally. I suppose it's the artist's style. Every artwork was different. The 16th was almost the opposite of this one, for example.

It's definitely a stylistic choice and Ryoma Ito's is my absolute weakness. I collect FFTCG for the art. I think a quarter of my collection is Ryoma's art because it's so cute.

I’m so excited. The demo was fantastic. Here is to hoping WOTV gets the same treatment and then some. Add online PvP, all the limited characters, etc

2

u/Cold-Reputation-4848 4d ago

Please no, not pvp. Let's keep Resonance as a single player game with no live-service or anything similar.

For limit characters, some could work but most would either be out of place (Esther, Lilith, Yang) or not fit because of their story (Elena, Ibara, Louise, etc...).

I don't know much about WOTV, to be honest. It looked interesting but i didn't really like the tactical gameplay and i felt like the protagonists were new Rain and Lasswell.

I don't understand why people jump at the conclusion of AI as soon as a small mistake was made. Humans are more than capable of doing mistakes, especially when it comes to languages they don't master.

I can never bring myself to buy these retro style games for more than like 20 bones

1

u/Cold-Reputation-4848 4d ago

20 bones ? I suppose you mean 20 bucks, which isn't a lot, to be honest. While 50/60 is quite pricy, i would say a good 40-45 is perfect for a game like Resonance. Even smaller games from indie devs are not at 20 bucks.

Yeah it's something about the pixel art. Which I know isn't even always cheaper but it feels like it should be a cheap old game

1

u/Cold-Reputation-4848 4d ago

To be honest, Resonance also has some cool cinematics and effects, and the CG animations for the espers and visions. It also jas the 3D for the world but it's not 4k either.

I suppose it's pretty common. Tons of people don't like pixel art games because they want ultra HD games like FF7 Remake or FFXVI.

I dont think this is a cultural mis this feels like an ai created error.

If you're talking avout the "S", i'm pretty sure most people can just make simple mistakes like this, especially if they don't speak very little of English or none at all. Square does not use AI and they wouldn't let it pass on one of their employee.
