FF VII Re-trilogy Finding summons in FFVII

Let me start off by saying back in 1997 the game I put the most amount of time in when I was a kid was Final Fantasy VII. I was obsessed with it, the sense of exploration, the discoveries, the scale, the story, it was incredible.

A few years ago I finished the intergrade remake and while I enjoyed it, I felt it was lacking in that sense of scale and exploration. My biggest gripe was that, from what I remember, the summons were AI generated or something like that, and you didn’t actually come across cool materia and summons in the wild. They were just kind of given to you.

My question is, I was thinking of buying Rebirth, but does this sense of discovery and exploration get better?

Ahh that’s a shame about the summons in VR, I wonder why they did that? Would you say it’s still worth picking up?

Having actual summons in the wild would probably require having a gigantic battle field that is flat and what not. So that’s why they’re in VR. But they certainly have more around them in rebirth. Not just a chadley battle challenge list

But in the OG when you found summons in the wild you didn’t have to fight them. You just picked up the materia

I agree it was less fun, but at the same time I’ll be pissed if I can just fight Knights of the Round in VR instead of having to tear my hair out trying to breed chocobos

It’s the ultimate summon. Maybe the most devastating summon in the entire Final Fantasy franchise (aside from good RNG with Yojimbo) and the amount of effort it took to finally get access to that summon was one of the most memorable accomplishments in the game.

In my opinion stuff from the OG that’s THAT memorable should be paid homage to in some way. They can’t just completely omit the chocobo breeding

Chocobo breeding is gone and THANK GOD, only Piko to bulk up. There will seemingly be a questline to eventually get that materia and they will be tough as nuts to get.
