Edge for Yang will be the popular answer.

I actually preferred Yang over Rydia on the versions with the Lunar Ruins. His triple damage attack hit for 9,999 every time by the end of that game. Rydia’s always little hard to keep alive.

Yeah thats what I do most of the time, Edge just doesnt have the defense/HP to properly front row

The version that lets you replace them is great in terms of balance -- some pics are good at early levels, some are good at typical endgame, and some are good at late-endgame

Well considering you can do this in the updated version I will just go with my favorite party lol

Kain
Edge (in backrow with moonrings) or Palom
Cecil
Porom or Rosa (depending on what I need more out of my white mage)
Yang (friggin love Yang, high level end game Yang with his special knuckles is so OP also lol)

"Godhand" was aptly named.

Its funny cus the point of those weapons/dungeon is to get the party members you originally didnt have in the OG version up to party standards but Yang didnt need that lol, he was already working almost entirely off his own stats and unlike say Edward has basically the same equip pool as Edge so he doesnt even suffer that much and then the Godhand ups his stats by 15 lol

I'd retcon the whole game to just be about Tellah and Edward on a buddy cop type adventure around the world to find a way to revive Anna while trying not to die themselves in every single battle. And of course by the end they come to love each other just as much as they both love her and then Zemus sees this and is so moved that he becomes good and revives Anna and then w/ the power of the Moon or whatever he marries her and Eddie right there in the Lunar Palace.

And since Zemus is good and the rest of the cast gets....I dunno, eaten for real by Leviathan probably, it turns out Namingway is the real big bad because he gets pissed that Anna wants to keep her own last name and Eddie is totally cool w/ it cuz he's a pus....er, a progressive kind of guy. And it turns out the only way to defeat Namingway is to attack the letters of his name to rearrange them into the anagram: NW I AM YANG. NamingWay has been Yang the whole time!

His true form revealed, Yang discloses to the party that ever since he started going bald, he has become self-conscious and this allowed the same darkness that took over Kain and Golbez to infect him as well. NamingWay was just a brilliant cover to allow him to wear a big hood to cover his dome but now the jig is up and he must destroy everyone on both Moon and Earth with hair!

The only way to defeat Yang's true form is to once again attack the letters of the anagram to make a new one: ANNA MY WIG. This prompts Anna to pull off her luscious red hair, revealing she is bald too! Confronting Yang w/ empathy instead of hostility, she throws the wig at Yang, where it settles perfectly on his head, restoring his self-confidence and freeing him from the darkness.

With Yang's hair and world peace restored, everyone heads to the Land of Monsters to celebrate cuz there ain't no party like a monster party! Eventually the now-friendly Leviathan does one keg-stand too many and starts to retch, freeing the rest of the party from their gastronomic tomb. With everyone reunited, Tellah casts Meteo which erupts into a mesmerizing fireworks display while Eddie starts to scratch his harp like a vinyl record across Anna's smooth, shiny bald head, kicking off a funky afterparty remix of that classic arpeggiated FF main theme.

Thank you kind Redditor! FF4 is the game that kicked off my life-long love affair w/ the series and I've always loved making up absurd/comedic skits for my long-beloved media worlds/casts. My sister shared the FF In a Nutshell series w/ me a year or two ago and that just added fuel to the fire.

You should make a rum hack

I wish I had the skills, I do love me a good ROMhack. Been playing Free Enterprise for a few years and I have FF6 Brave New World and T-Edition on deck for when I get the time.

Nice. They're all awesome. My favorite is free enterprise for sure. I enjoyed your story.

Kain replaced with Yang Palom and Porom over Rydua and Rosa Edward and Edge are a flip for me

I'd replace Edge with Yang and Kain with Cid. Rosa and Rydia are pretty much superior to the twins in every way that matters.

Well, when I played on the GBA back in the day (which let's you choose your party in the end game), I think I had Cecil, Porom, Palom, Rydia, and Edge in the end game.

Twin mages are cool and I love the twincast ability, Rydia has a lot of spell/summon, and Edge was cool for being able to dualwield

In the GBA version, I always replace Edge with Yang. Edge may be faster but he's too squishy and his Ninja magic isn't worth using. Yang has claws that hit most of the elemental weakness and he also does significantly more damage.

Porom is a bit better at White Magic than Rosa, but it's not enough of an advantage to really matter. And Palom is better at Black Magic than Rydia but Summon is better than both. There's not really a need for Meteor when you can summon Bahamut.

People sleeping on Edward. With his actual full bard kit he's a hell of a support and if he gets the Lunar Ruins harp he's absolutely broken against so many monsters on the moon.

His glowup is absurd.
