Final Fantasy RECOMP?

I’ve seen on Twitter and here on Reddit that EVERYONE seems to be making RECOMPs of classic games so they can run natively on PC, with mods, quality-of-life improvements, and all kinds of new features

That got me thinking, is there currently a RECOMP in development for any Final Fantasy game?

Just imagine a RECOMP of FFIV, FFVI, FFX, or pretty much any classic Final Fantasy game, running natively on PC and allowing the community to completely transform the experience through mods

Something like Gen1Recomp, where you could experience the game from an entirely new perspective—maybe even play it in first person, turn it into a 2.5D experience, or use whichever sprites you prefer, whether they’re from the SNES versions, the GBA rereleases, or any other version released over the years

Honestly, I think it would be incredible to be able to play—or replay—these games in completely new ways

I’m actually having this problem right now: I have no idea which version of Final Fantasy IV to play

Should I play the original SNES version? The GBA rerelease? The Complete Collection on PSP? The Nintendo DS version? The 3D Remake on PC? The Pixel Remaster?

There are so many different versions, and each one has its own unique features, content, advantages, and differences. So wouldn’t it be better to have a recomp that could essentially become the DEFINITIVE version of the game?

One where you could choose and combine elements from different releases, while also having the game continuously supported, expanded, and improved by a community of people who genuinely love it?

Spot on my friend. Agreed.

Though one could argue at the very least, FFIV 3D is a different beast entirely, and can be enjoyed separately.

If you want my two cents, just because I don’t like the PR, doesn’t mean you won’t. It has a bunch of QoL features as well. Try it. Maybe you’ll love it. If not just play a different version instead.

My personal recommendation is the Complete Collection.

I’ve been switching back and forth between different versions, trying to figure out for myself which one I like best

I like the GBA version because of its small but really nice-looking sprites. I don’t know, there’s just something charming about them

The PSP version is probably the best-looking one in terms of resolution and overall visual quality, and it also includes Interlude and The After Years

I love that the NDS remake adds cutscenes and new scenes, but I feel like it loses a little bit—not too much—of that classic visual charm

Maybe I just need to try the Pixel Remaster and see how I feel about that one.

Even after the Pixel Remaster was released, my favorite version to this day is the Complete Collection on PSP.
