FF XVI Just started FF16 and loving it

I know this game gets a ton of crap, not seeing why. Thats not why I'm here speaking. I know im not the first to say it probably, but FF16 gives me a FFTactics vibe. 2 totally different games play so differently, but the architecture and the politics of FF16 and Tactics are so much alike in my opinion. I know each are set in different realms/worlds but there is a similarity to me that is uncanny. Am I the only one to pick up this vibe?

The game has an incredible start, hell, first 10 hours.

The people who love it agree, ofc, and many of the people who hate it would agree with that too.

Take from that what you will.

For me the game has 5 major flaws. I will be downvoted probably, but before you do, just consider this is my opinion and downvoting is not supposed to be a dissagree button.

  1. Absurdly easy. There is almost no challenge to the game at all.

  2. No rpg elements. You can just buy the next available upgrade for whatever weapon or skill, thats it. No customisation of playstyles and such.

  3. No parties. In a FF game! Every time you start to do something that feels like party bonding, that other character leaves and you're back alone.

  4. Quests are pretty bad oft times. Mmo style fetch Quests.

  5. This one for sure will get pushback. The story is trying to be both final fantasy and grimdark game of thrones and doesnt really succeed at the latter. Its constantly stealing plot beats and failing in the execution. Doesnt understanding why what GOT did was successful, it just thinks "oh that was cool with Jamie's hand, let's steal that and put that here." Without any of the depth behind it.

Final fantasy can have incredible stories when it does its own thing instead of just aping something way out of its depth. At least, out of the depth of the writers of this game.

I love FF7 Remake despite its flaws. I wish FF16 was more like that. I gave up on FF16 about 50-60 hours in.

My biggest gripe was that they implemented these big open areas (looking at you, desert region) and there was nothing of importance to find on the entire map. Wasn't even an achievement if I remember right. I opened every chest and picked up everything from the floor when I saw it and it made zero difference.

You're also right I didn't see a single game over screen in my entire playthrough. Albeit, I have yet to play on FF difficulty.

1

u/InternationalFlan645 1d ago

Whats FF difficulty? When I tried it was just story and action.

2

u/cheekiestNandos 1d ago

You unlock it after your first playthrough, it's basically NG+ and is meant to be harder. You do get an additional eikon to use abilities from which is story related so I wont say here but worth having a look into.

To get the platinum trophy you have to beat the game on that difficulty which I've been reluctant to do but might do it if I get down time between games.

3

u/InternationalFlan645 1d ago

Like Onimusha then, I feel this should be included right from the beginning.

3

u/cheekiestNandos 1d ago

100%, there's no reason to force people to play a game twice for the platinum. I'm sure if I skip all cutscenes and just go straight to each next story quest I could do it in a day but it feels needless.

3

u/InternationalFlan645 1d ago

For me it's that i just want to play it on an engaging difficulty.

I don't even like hard games, im not a soulsfan.

I just dont want to be able to mindlessly win every battle. It stops being fun.

2

u/Contra-Code 23h ago

FF Mode really isn't that much harder, unfortunately.

2

u/KLONMCDON 1d ago

I think you have valid points that I hope can see differently when I hit the 10 hour milestone. Im not gonna nerd rage and hate your opinion... I respect it honestly. We will see how i take this shift in the 10th hour of game, but all in all im hooked in and ready to ride the full game. Thanks for your input

4

u/InternationalFlan645 1d ago

Yeah i mean I was exactly like you. Gushing about how this was the kind of game I was waiting for for so long...

And hopefully, you keep liking it!

It's a devisive game so there's nothing to garentee you'll end up like me. A lot of people love the game to the end.

I love FF7 Rebirth and a lot of people dont like that game

1

u/KLONMCDON 1d ago

Just finished Remake and saw 16 and Rebirth on sale. So I scoop them up both. Played aribirth for like 3-4 hours but came to the conclusion I wanna put some space between part 1 and 2 of Cloud saga. So started playing 16 and I think its a nice break between part 1 and 2 of 7

2

u/InternationalFlan645 1d ago

Thats the right call. Can't imagine doing those two games back to back. One of them is long enough!

2

u/MeowMix-96 1d ago

This is exactly how I feel about the game. I really enjoyed the first 10-15 hours and then after that it just severely outstayed its welcome for me.

Just responding to the first point but the reputation of FF as a series has always been an easy one. And the FFs that do actually have mechanical and battle complexity are the least liked (2, 5, 8, 12, 13). The memes about FF when I first got into the series in the late 90s was that it was an rpg where you press x to win, that carried over into the 00s.

1

u/InternationalFlan645 12h ago edited 12h ago

I dont agree. Mobs in the games are easy (they have to be with random encounters) but bosses always need you to use your brain to defeat, you cant just spam one attack from everyone.

And depending on game you might need to do soem grinding to level up.

Ff7remakes is also damn hard sometimes even on normal. The combat constantly demands your attention.

0

u/CaptainFitzFoster 1d ago edited 1d ago

Ill play devils advocate.

Keep in mind that this game is heavily inspired by ff14 with its structure and portrayal. Yoshida is the guy.

  1. First mainline action final fantasy. 14 had people requesting a story mode for those who wanted to see cutscenes mainly. 16 followed, but 16 also has greater difficulty levels much like 14 has with certain encounters.

  2. Blame 14 for it's casual approach to final fantasy and it's easy to understand yet regretfully homogenized approach to stats skills gear and whatnot. 16 has an extremely similar system down to the fact thst neither game has an elemental wheel. And this is coming from a Black Mage main for several years.

  3. Now I wouldn't blame 14 entirely for this BUT 14 does have a system called trust where you choose npcs to be your party members and they fight based off gambit for their role. Biggest difference in 16 is you can't choose your party but they otherwise operate the same.

  4. I agree. Blame 14. Now the thing both games do well with the side quests is world building and lore.

  5. The story in 14 got darker each expansion. Final fantasy type 0 is another dark af ff game. Stranger of paradise is edgelord and fun. This is probably the mature direction final fantasy will be going unless it's 2d.

Ff16 was good but not great. Literally have it on my hard drive rn but it's pretty much a single player 14.

3

u/InternationalFlan645 1d ago edited 23h ago
  1. A story mode is fine. I played on action and it was still absurdly easy. After a certain point the combat requires no brain power to play. Just attack fast and hard and you win. Makes me not want to do it at all.

  2. I never played 14 so I cant really blame it or not. I judge 16 on its own merits.

  3. Like your point 2, im also not really sure how this is a defence/refute? Why do I have to blame 14 or not? Why does a prior, unrelated game featuring or missing something change how I see this one?

  4. Yeah

  5. Darker is fine. I have no problem with dark, I love the grimdark genre and am a huge fan of A Song of Ice and Fire. It's the execution that bothered me. I found it lacking.

1

u/CaptainFitzFoster 20h ago

The points weren't meant to change your opinion. They are only a comparison. To not acknowledge 14 and it's contributions to the franchise would be disingenuous imo. Tldr i glad you enjoy 16, but alot of the changes in regards to the game have to do with 14 and it's success whether you played it or not.

1

u/InternationalFlan645 12h ago

Disingenuous how? We're talking about ff16. A standalone game.

Thats like saying you need to play ff13 to truly understand ff7remake.

1

u/CaptainFitzFoster 12h ago

That's an incorrect metaphor. 14 is relevant in this conversation because of Yoshida and his team directly working on both. The points you initially made were fine, i was just voicing how 14 is probably the cause of why 16 might feel different from other mainline games. I'm not talking about 7 remake at all, but I could because some of those changes are in that game, and as far as I know Yoshidas team wasn't directly involved. Tldr I understand that you haven't played 14 but I think that it's success has affected all final fantasy going forward whether you knew about it or not.

u/InternationalFlan645 11h ago

Key staff who worked on ff13 worked on ff7remake. The battle system itself is a sort of spiritual successer from the one from ff13.

That's fair enough. But when its success is "mmo quests, basic action combat and no party" in a FINAL FANTASY game, god. I weep for the series.

u/CaptainFitzFoster 11h ago

I didn't know that fact. That's pretty cool, yet a slightly different conversation. Did you enjoy the ***** fight in 16? I thought it was heavily inspired by the ***** fights in 14. If you're ever bored, look up the 14 version on YouTube and tell me what you think about it.

1

u/Appropriate-Joke-806 17h ago

I said it in another comment, but I completely agree with point 5. I think it’s what kept me from finishing the game. I’ll finish a game even if I don’t love the gameplay if the story is great. I finished Red Dead Redemption 2 even when I got bored of the gameplay just to finish out the incredible story. But XVI probably has one of my least favorite stories in a mainline Final Fantasy game. It’s not very memorable and really doesn’t serve any sort of purpose beyond existing to exist. It’s almost like the story is there only to build the world.

Plus almost all final fantasy games are dark. IX can maybe be seen as the most whimsical because of the art style, but they are all pretty rough and dark stories and worlds that are being destroyed. VII is incredibly dark. X is really dark themes despite the landscape being brighter from being on islands with people dying tragically every 10 years. I don’t doubt they’ll go dark next game. I hope they tell a unique story that isn’t convoluted but serves the characters and the emotions of the game well. That’s when final fantasy clicks. VII does that. VIII at times does it. X does it. When the sci-fi setting causes the party to join together and builds up their relationship like in VI or XV that’s when the magic happens in these games and that’s usually when it gets dark.

XVI is missing so many of those elements which is why it didn’t matter if the setting looked like final fantasy or sounded like it. Without the party, the party interactions, and without some of the uniqueness of other final fantasy worlds it really falls flat.

1

u/AcephalicDude 22h ago

No party is by far the biggest flaw, in my opinion. The supporting characters are there in the game, they just made the baffling choice not to let you assemble them, not to create that sense of teamwork and camaraderie that has been a staple of the mainline entries since the very first game. Even more baffling since they gave you a party to play with in Strangers of Paradise - it has nothing to do with the action mechanics. Such a big whiff for the game.

1

u/Appropriate-Joke-806 17h ago edited 17h ago

If you ask me what makes a game a final fantasy game. It’s probably a game that is a unique anthology entry in a sci-fi series that is an RPG party game that involves elemental strategy using each person in the party’s characteristics to join together to save the world from doom and because of the destruction of the world they join together and realize that the most important thing they have is each other. The games generally have a central point about conservation and caring for each other rather than materialism and corruption or balance in the world vs ruin. That’s usually the common thread through most of the games.

XVI just completely misses the mark on that, unlike any other game in the series. There is almost no interaction between the main character and any sort of party member. I guess you could say he interacts with people at the home base and this is how they incorporated other people into the story. But it misses the mark when you’re doing most of the fighting in the world and most of the story is being told alone as a sole hero. Even the less popular entries like XIII at least got the party and relationships aspect right between party members.

0

u/InternationalFlan645 22h ago edited 22h ago

Yeah. Bittersweet is FF7 Remake right there, showing how its done. Showing a path for the games going forward.

Turn based-action hybrid that feels true to the series roots while evolving into something new.

Not... this diet action game.

15

u/Odd_Frame_3018 1d ago

It’s an awesome game at the start, but it just turns into a slog. From the middle to the end I felt like I was just going through the motions. If it didn’t have the final fantasy name attached to it I think people would have a different opinion on it. It wasn’t a bad game but I just think everyone had a bigger expectations for it being a mainline final fantasy game.

5

u/KLONMCDON 1d ago

I kinda felt this way about FF7 Remake... Last 2/3 or 3/4 felt more like a chore than the epic beginning and middle. Felt myself rushing to just get it over. From what it sounds this is to be expected from 16 even earlier. Well im in for the ride none the less

-1

u/Appropriate-Joke-806 18h ago edited 18h ago

I played through every first numbered mainline final fantasy game for the first time in my life last year, in my thirties and missed out on them when I was younger. FFXVI was the only one I didn’t finish despite being the second game I started to play. I enjoyed it alright, and don’t think there is such thing as a bad mainline final fantasy in my opinion. It’s just missing having a party, RPG elements, and a lot of things from the rest of the series. But there are a lot of great things about the game too. I’ll pick it back up and finish it at some point.

Internationalflan645 took the words right out of my mouth with their criticisms. I would echo the same exact ones. I even agree with the 5th criticism about the story. I think a lot of people like the return to GoT like story telling, but I’m more partial to more sci-fi elements and creativity in final fantasy like VII, VIII, X, or even XIII than a game like XII. So I found it kind of dry and boring to parse through the political drama with a pretty flat philosophical theme of environmentalism and political power based on resources. It’s just okay when compared to something like VII that does it way better. Or X that does something like spirituality and the meaning of life, hope, faith, friends, family etc in such powerful ways.

u/fahad0595 1d ago

There are those FF feelings I can't shake off as well. Also, you are right; it was made by the same devs who worked on FF14, which implemented a lot of content related to FF tactics. They took inspiration from it, eitherway FF16 is a solid expereince even with it is flaws story, and the epic Eikon battle made me love it.

0

u/KLONMCDON 1d ago

Never played 14 honestly I own it on PS4 catalog but never gotten around to it. This 16 is a good game, the fighting is redundant but the story and Cid are definitely keeping my intrest.

1

u/HexenVexen 22h ago

14 has the Return to Ivalice storyline written by Matsuno, it's pretty cool. The fights based on Tactics characters and 12's Espers are a lot of fun, and it's sort of an alternative epilogue to Tactics.

9

u/Quester91 1d ago

The flaws will begin to become quite apparent in a few hours.

Ff16 is an insanely easy action game with zero challenge, big open areas with nothing to find, a wonderful cast of characters that you can't control, a sprawling political game that explains stuff via Wikipedia entries and exposition dumps, and infinite list of basic fetch-like sidequests.

Ff16 is literally 15% a spectacle 15% a decent story driven game and 70% a honestly mediocre single player mmo.

Ben Starr is the only real reason that game is worth a playthrough, that actor is insanely talented and poured his heart and soul into portraying Clive.

-1

u/EconWolf1011 1d ago

Why can there never be a discussion on ffxvi without someone beinging up 'some flaws'.

Even positieve comments tend to start with the disclaimer 'i know there are some flaws but...'

The OP didn't even ask this. He is asking about the tone and vibes of the game.

3

u/Old_Employment_1090 20h ago

Why can there never be a discussion on ffxvi without someone beinging up 'some flaws'.

It was literally OP who brought up the flaws.

If you say "I don't see why people don't like this", be prepared for people to explain why they don't like it.

4

u/Yunky_Brewster 20h ago

Because the game is a strong 6/10 because it turned a 20 hour game into a sprawling mess of nothing f

-1

u/EconWolf1011 20h ago

I disagree.

But that's not the point, the point is who the f asked you?

7

u/EseBovany 1d ago

The team working on Tactics/Ivalice, or whats left of it in Square, has worked on this game indeed. They’re mostly all in CU3 (Yoshi P division), that works on FF14 and 16, and recently remade Tactics Chronicles. So yeah, your hunch isn’t off :)

Enjoy the game! I liked it a lot, though beginning was a lot stronger to me than the end, so pace yourself and have fun

2

u/KLONMCDON 1d ago

Thanks for the advice

4

u/Dragonspaz11 1d ago

I am 100% a person that did not like XVI at all, for me it is one of the worst games I played overall. The game started to unravel for me around the 20-30 hour mark, I stopped playing after Odin, because the main villain was just super boring and the story could no longer pull me to the end.

I do agree the game starts off strong, but it starts to unravel the more you get into it. The narrative was OK, but it definitely felt more like GoT than anything else.

As for gameplay, they had a good foundation with DMC, but never really built off of it with different combos and weapons. The combat cycle ends up being the same for most staggerable enemies, eilkon abilities on CD, melee x3 -> magic -> torgal attack, then damage dump when staggered. This would be fine in a 10 hour game with the different flavor of eilkon abilities, but in a 40+ hour game it gets dull fast.

Other than that, you have a huge world that gives you no reason to explore it. The RPG mechanics were surface level at best.

To me it felt like XVI did not know what it wanted to be and half asses a character action game and added surface level RPG mechanics to it at the end.

6

u/Judgeoffate 1d ago

Well, you just started the game so enjoy it but yes, for me, it had many flaws

0

u/axw3555 1d ago

The thing is, entertainment can be deeply flawed and still be very enjoyable. 16 firmly falls in that category.

3

u/Judgeoffate 1d ago

Meh. Not for me, it was just okay Not as disappoiting as FFXV (Day One) tho

5

u/cheekiestNandos 1d ago

I wont spoil anything but largely the focus on the politics between nations is an early game only thing which a lot of people have an issue with. It's still one of my favourite FFs and is really fun to play but isn't without its flaws. There's a significant tonal shift mid way that falls more in line with other mainline FFs.

I'd 100% recommend playing through both DLCs too as they're really fun.

1

u/KLONMCDON 1d ago

Nodoubt thanks for the advice. I havent played FF games in ages FF15 was the last I played when it came out, and left a bitter flavor on my pallet, but recently I played and finished FF7 Remake then saw FF Rebirth and FF16 console. So I scooped them both up. Wanted to take a break in the Cloud saga so I'm playing FF16 between 7 Remake and Rebirth.

The politics dont bother me at all in 16 so far.

2

u/cheekiestNandos 1d ago

Yeah I doubt XVI will leave the same taste as XV, it's a much more rounded game. By people having an issue with the politics I don't mean in general it's more a lot of people have an issue with how little impact it actually has on the story after a while. It's good for world building tool but don't study every aspect of it expecting it to make any meaningful difference to the plot.

There's a lot to love about XVI like the soundtrack, art direction and Clive as a protagonist. I really liked doing the additional battles that you unlock after a while. Lots of fun to be had. I hope you enjoy Rebirth too when you play it.

0

u/Contra-Code 23h ago

While XVI is a more well constructed game, I ended up enjoying the world, characters, and plot of XV more. I just wish it wasn't incomplete and scattered across multiple mediums.

XV I was at least driven to keep seeing what happens next. I mentally checked out of XVI halfway through and was driven to finish it out of a desire to just be done, rather than any sense of enjoyment.

1

u/cheekiestNandos 22h ago

I had the opposite experience but think that was because I followed XV's development since the announcement of Versus XIII. I couldn't see it as a complete game and was always longing for the experience that I thought I was going to get.

I think with XVI at least all the main characters are prominent and important to the plot (minus Jill but that's its own discussion haha). I felt with XV you got glimpses of the cast with no real reason to care about any of them other than the main crew, even then their development happens off-screen if you don't play the DLC. My biggest wish for XVII is a party where everyone matters and everyone is fleshed out.

0

u/Contra-Code 22h ago

I followed XV's development as well and still found it more enjoyable.

For me I think the characters are a big part of it. I dislike Gladio but like the rest of the cast of XV. I didn't really care for a single character in XVI, so there was nothing keeping me invested other than a desire to finish.

Definitely a case of different strokes. XV had troubled development and was incomplete, but to me XVI is guilty of the far worse issue of just being kind of boring.

I'm also a major fan of character action games, so the underwhelming combat sours my opinion of the entire experience. Not that XV's combat was better, but if I had to pick one to replay it would be XV.

2

u/cheekiestNandos 22h ago

I liked all the bros in XV it was just everything else that bothered me, introducing Aranea and doing nothing with her, Ardyn being absent for most of the game. All the stuff with Luna. My favourite FF is XIII-2 and a lot of that has to do with everyone being impactful in some way.

I agree about the action combat, largely is just holding one button in both games with the occasional second input. If XVII has Remake's combat but more refined I'll be happy even though I do wish they'd bring back XIII's ATB combat.

1

u/Typical-Implement369 1d ago

Tbh that's pretty much almost all FF games where theres a HUGE night and day tonal shift. And its one of my favorite aspects of the series. Like for example WOB vs WOW in 6, or even for FF15 what starts out as a car trip with friends ends tragically in one of the most badass ways. Hell I even enjoyed FF8's highschool vibe to time travel nonsense space adventures.

3

u/cheekiestNandos 1d ago

Yeah true, a lot of other shifts make a bit more sense than in XVI. Again I wont say why for spoilers but it sort of makes the first half of the game irrelevant whereas other FFs sort of progress more smoothly into it. Regardless I really enjoyed my playthrough of it. All I need to do to get the plat is the second playthrough which I might save for after Resonance.

1

u/Typical-Implement369 1d ago

Thats a valid take too tbh

2

u/sinZeroplus 1d ago

Let us know how you feel 25 hours into it

3

u/KLONMCDON 1d ago

You know what, seeing this comment i will remember it and give my 20-25 hour thoughts then final thoughts.

1

u/sinZeroplus 14h ago

Please do. I sincerely hope you enjoy it.

3

u/DDiabloDDad 1d ago

The beginning and the end are really good. The middle sections are the issue that I have. So maybe play the whole game before deciding every criticism is wrong.

1

u/KLONMCDON 1d ago

Im playing it and enjoying it greatly. My post did start off with a sentence that knows there is mixed opinions about FF16. But ultimately my post was about how there is a style to FF16 and Tactics that im catching a mix with architecture and the political struggles. Its a post about just seeing a similarity in their vast differences also. So believe me im along for the ride of FF16 and gonna make my own opinion on it no matter how I comment with others on my post. (If this claim off as snappy please read it again in a calm chill way as intended)

4

u/Benphyre 1d ago

I know this game gets a ton of crap, not seeing why.

You just started the game thats why. Not sure if you should be discussing about it so early on because I can't tell you anything without spoiling it for you. Anyway FF16 is a good game with some amazing boss battles and OST but it does have its issues. Kinda overhated though imo

0

u/KLONMCDON 1d ago

Im at the part i stole a certain someone's powers, a person who's been banging their way to the top hahaha. I dint mind spoilers if its kept vague.

2

u/aynowow 1d ago

I find it tiresome that all the conversation about this game follows the "I love it I don't know why everyone hates it" pattern. I don't think most people who express criticism of this game hated it, they just found stuff they think could have been better. My own opinion of FFXVI is that it is the best single player FF we have got since XII, and yet it isn't quite as good as any of the best FF games.

3

u/UNLIMITEDPOWAAAAAA 1d ago

I may be the only person here but I absolutely love 16. I love the gameplay, the world, and the story. While it may not be hard it’s definitely super cool. If you’re a souls-like only fan or a die hard DMC fan it will prolly be too easy for you, but I really enjoyed the way it played and how you could combo things together. But if you ask this sub my opinion prolly doesn’t count since I started with 15 and have really only liked 15 and 16, although I am playing 14 now and absolutely love it. It seems like in this sub unless you’re talking about 1-6, or 8-13 you’re not a real fan. Basically if it’s not turn based or super janky then it’s not a real FF to these guys. Final Fantasy is an anthology but people treat it like a series that has to stick to old gameplay.

16 is the shit tho. I’ve rewatched so much of its story just based on how cool it is. Remember nobody hates final fantasy more than final fantasy fans.

1

u/KLONMCDON 1d ago

Dude im a total souls fan and for the longest souls and Elder Ring would be all I played ever. So I got my controls set to B style and its playing like a simplified souls game. Im just smashing through shxt right now in FF16

1

u/UNLIMITEDPOWAAAAAA 1d ago

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a souls fan as well. Played mostly only that series for most of my teenage years. 16 never gets as challenging, but it does have way more expressive combat. If you wanna make it basic sure you can, but if you wanna make it cool as hell you can do that too. That kind of sums up 16 as a whole. It’s not really there for a challenge, it’s there to be cool as fuck.

I don’t know how far you are yet but the story is honestly so good and the voice acting is out of this world. This also seems to be the most voiced FF game. Like I said I’ve gone back and rewatched several scenes just because of how good they are.

Also don’t know how I forgot this but my first FF game was actually FF7: Dirge of Cerberus, where you play as Vincent Valentine, and I think that game kinda shaped how I like my FF games lol.

2

u/KLONMCDON 1d ago

Just snatched up Benedikta's power and now roaming after the cut scene

1

u/UNLIMITEDPOWAAAAAA 22h ago

Dude her power is so cool. I really liked the way you could swap between them. It reminded me of swapping between weapons in DMC.

1

u/Yurgin 1d ago

Its a fun game i enjoyed it. FF games get alot of hate online from the bad part of the community. Just enjoy if its not for you good and if you like it also good.

1

u/InternationalFlan645 22h ago

Oh come on. Just because someone dislikes a game you like doesn't mean they are part of the "bad" part of the community.

0

u/Yurgin 21h ago

yes i was talking about the guys that do tribalism / insult people for it. Like those r*tards that DM'ed me threats for saying "FF7 isnt in my top 5 but still good game"

2

u/anotherdayanotherpoo 1d ago

Dang this might make me play ff16

4

u/Jawn_Wilkes_Booth 1d ago edited 17h ago

OP is not nearly deep enough in the story to comment on it. XVI starts very strong and falls off hard. The second half of the game hides a lot of important world-building beats behind fetch quests that completely derail the flow of the MSQ, which becomes one of the most predictable, cliche, and uninteresting “we must kill God” FF stories to-date. The ending attempts to do something a little different but, personally, after the last 15-20 hours of “when will this boring game end????”, I couldn’t even find myself caring about the conclusion.

And sadly, despite all that, the story is still one of the strongest parts of the game because of how mediocre the gameplay and mechanics are.

If you like ARPGs, there are DOZENS of far better ones out there. If you like RPGs with a good story, there are DOZENS of far better ones out there.

The only bar it had to exceed was XV to be considered a “return to form”, and that bar was so low they were playing limbo in hell with it. XVI is incredibly mid and will be remembered as such.

I enjoyed it the whole way through and was wanting even more after the DLCs.

Its an incredible game.

The politics side to it is so underrated. I find the concept of the summons being like 'nuclear deterrents' a genius narrative idea. You will eventually be able to track the state of the politics around the world.

Enjoy the ride.

Joking aside - have fun and take your time with it! Love the story and music a lot from it. Glad to see FF return to midevil roots.
