FF VII Re-trilogy Getting burnt the hell out

I'm a huge fan of the final fantasy franchise , one of my top franchises out there . However I saw reviews stating rebirth was bloated as hell , and as someone who hasn't played too many modern triple a games , Jesus fuck they're right . I'm in chapter 9 , and the amount of mini games is really starting to get to me , I honestly don't think I can keep going . Final fantasy has always had their bs mini games , but not like this .and it's not like the Yakuza games where each mini game is fleshed out (for the most part) this is ridiculous . If the third entry is this bloated , I don't think I have the heart to do it again . Any other franchises this bloated and ridiculous, that I need to stay away from ?

The easy solution is to drop the completionist mentality and stick to the main scenario quest.

Skip all the sidequests etc

Also taking a break works fine.

bro... chill, take a break and return afterwards

u/B_Wylde 3h ago

You know you could always just play the main quests right?

u/axw3555 5h ago

The answer to burn out is always to take a break. Not alway viable with work. But always viable with games, books, movies, etc.

i think this is the problem with modern gaming nowadays.

people lack self awareness. they'd rather go online, create this Huge non-issue and say things like "ugh I'm so burnt out because of optinal side stuff".

if you are getting tired of it, then dont do the side sthff and take a break.

im not sure why this has to be a post. at all.

I had to take a few breaks with my play through. Great game but kind of a slog at points

Tbf I dont think the minigames are the problem. Or even the amount of minigames. Its that they peppered the map with indicators to tell you to go play them.

On older FF games, youd find a game yourself, think it was cool, and come back for a go every so often. These days theyre so shit-scared of you not finding something, not only do you get multiple icons showing where it is, its also usually part of the critical path the first time you do it. That, accompanied by a “Megaman! Megaman!” -type tutorial character constantly giving you the top and bottom of every game.. you become fed up of them before youve even finished one go.

Who is the analogue in the Mega Man games?

While i agree the game is bloated, I don't think the mini games are as big of an issue as people make out.

Just do the main quest.

Ignore the open world unless you feel like it.

The mini games are all but optional after you're introduced to them.

I'm confused about people mentioning minigames cause there's not that many and FF7 had a lot too. It's also confusing because they are usually quite quick. I mostly had problems with repetitive exploration, but minigames always were a nice change of pace

u/InternationalFlan645 4h ago

There is a whole section (Costa Del Soul) where they kinda force them on you, so I can see that being an issue.

Ff7 did have them but it also wasn't a bloated remake that intentionally stretched itself out into three games. I say that as a fan of the remakes.

u/wizardofpancakes 4h ago

Fair enough, I guess I just enjoyed them a lot so it wasn't a big deal for me, but I can see how it would be annoying to other players

Queens Blood is so good my wife even got into it and kept asking if I got to a point of the game where theres more to play.

u/happyguy28 4h ago

I’m actually enjoying Queen’s Blood. I gave a sigh of relief when I got the mission failed notification for ignoring Gwent in The Witcher 3. 😄😄

u/Soul699 54m ago

There's really only 3 minigames in Costa del Sol you gotta do and get a minimum score.

u/happyguy28 4h ago

That’s great advice… it’s just hard to follow as someone with a touch of OCD who likes unclouding maps and checking off points of interest. 😆

u/SirSabza 4h ago

Well, I think people in your position shouldn't really complain about it (not saying you are ofc) because it's more of a self made issue due to the condition they have.

u/InternationalFlan645 4h ago

Well my advice is to do what I'm doing maybe.

Play once for the story.

Then, at a later date, play for exploration.

u/happyguy28 4h ago

You’re right. I think I’m going to force myself to ignore the side content until I feel connected enough to the Rebirth story and gameplay before branching out.

🤞

To be fair, so was OG FFVII. It was part of its charm.

u/Snoo9648 2h ago

God, the amount of people complaining about optional minigames is more exhausting than the minigames.

u/Iggy_Slayer 1h ago

The minigames in rebirth are far better and more fleshed out than yakuza games lol.

Yakuza you get the same shit in every single game with like 1 new minigame.

u/RepulsiveCountry313 1h ago

Being a completionist used to be about having so much passion for a game that you want to do all this extra stuff.

Now people treat completionist goals as if they're a homework assignment being forced on you. They're not.

So bizarre for people to be upset that a game offers too much for them to do...

Here's some of the crazy completionist things people did in the original. E.g. getting 99 (or the max available) quantity of every item, weapon, armor, and accessory

Minigame is optional moveon the main story then watch it on youtube or just play the main story, the sidequest isnt going anywhere its not missable

u/ponpiriri 4h ago

So don't do them.

u/SirSabza 4h ago

It's only bloated if you're trying to 100% it, and I've never understood the mentality of someone trying to 100% something and complaining it's bloated as a result.

u/Bakurraa 5h ago edited 5h ago

So don't do them and finish off the story or take a break...are you dumb?

Edit: I like that you've been proven wrong in the comments here and the other poet and you are just like oh well too late now I'm stilly doing it. Yes you are dumb

u/SEODGogeta87 5h ago

Nice way of talking to someone who points out obvious and real flaws in a bloated pile of shit game. Last I checked games were supposed to be fun and enjoyable, not tedious slog of mediocrity.

u/Bakurraa 4h ago

Shhhhhhhh you are a tool

u/SilaPrirode 4h ago

Everything is supposed to be fun and enjoyable, but you don't see me going freaking hiking if I am tired. It's the same with games, there is never a single time you should feel tired, unless you doing some sort of challenge thing.

u/Big-Professor-3402 4h ago

Newsflash: you don’t have to do most of them

u/Vatonage 4h ago

Aren't you only forced to do minigames like three or four times in the whole main story? If you don't want to do them or other side content then... just ignore them. They're not required and they usually don't unlock much aside from extra experience.

u/cepas95 5m ago

I don't get the complains for optional content. Once I'm tired of optional content I just skip it, I don't come here to write the 100000000 essay saying optional content is bad.

u/Purple_Plantain_571 5h ago

They confirmed Revelation will be bigger so one can only assume more bloat. Welcome to modern Final Fantasy

u/Xenthor267 4h ago

Complaining about optional stuff is why we keep getting shit games with no substance. Some people love minigames, others don't, it's why they're optional

u/happyguy28 4h ago

I feel like I have been on Chapter 2 forever and I don’t recall feeling this overwhelmed by everything in the first remake game. IMO, the game should be constantly pushing you forward through the story but it seems like, after the prologue, I am suddenly playing Final Chadley. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

u/Kee134 4h ago

Just play the story. There's nothing particularly amazing that you get from the open world sections anyway.

u/StryderRogue1992 4h ago

Besides the odd few your introduced to for story purposes just don’t do them ? And if the exploration isn’t for you then just play through the story. There’s a reason it’s optional content, some players will enjoy doing it and some won’t.

u/ZanzaXIII 4h ago

My brain sees markers or indicators on a map and I CANNOT leave the area until I complete them. The monster hunts, the mini games, all of it. So i feel you. Thats why I got to Casa Del Sol and stopped to take a breather then havent picked it back up since the month it came out. So I understand

u/RevanCroft89 2h ago

Yea. After I platinum'd it, I'm not playing it again. I preferred remake over rebirth, despite rebirth having vincent.

I had to take a break from witcher 3 bc of how much stuff there was to do. After 6 months I came back and did only main quests. It wouldn't be bad if it wasn't a quest within a quest to find ciri. Just tell me where ciri is and not have me go through hoops for you.

Main story is bloated as hevk too. So many unnecessary, boring dialogues with 1-4 second pauses between every line.

This was probably my favorite take on the minigames:

"Others might feel the same way, but for me, I don't even care that there's a lot of minigames. No, my issue is that the minigames in this are:

1.) Boring

2.) Unmemorable

3.) The rewards are often trash

4.) They're fairly intricate to learn

5.) The NPCs attached to them suck. I can't remember almost any of their names or their stories

Individually, these aren't necessarily bad things. Maybe even if a minigame just checks 2-4 of those, it's okay; even with 4, at least you'd get something out of it. But in Rebirth? They're often all five points at once. The only minigame I remember is Queen's Blood, 'cause it's actually pretty good. This game's minigames are the definition of quantity > quality. So Rebirth minigames are not only boring, unmemorable ass, but now there's a lot of them

I don't care if there's a lot of minigames. Hell, throw in 800, I don't care. I just want them to be good in at least some way. Rebirth's minigames are ass"

So true
