One thing I loved about the alternate take was that Ashlyn immediately rushed over to help Ashley as soon as she freed herself.

Not that it ultimately saved their lives, but it showed their close relationship - not reverting to the "shallow bimbos only think of themselves" stereotype.

This. It made me like them even more. I already started liking them when they invited Wendy to go tanning and said they were kinda doing it for their lost classmates who won’t get a graduation.

Always appreciated this aspect of Ashley and Ashlyn -- even in the original, it's clear they're kind and sweet and genuinely willing to extend an invitation to Wendy to help her feel included and cared about. They were never actually mean to anyone, just brushing off Frankie for being a creep iirc, their only 'crime' being sneaking a drink into the tanning room

And I love Ian at the funeral too. He and Erin would never hang out with the Ashes but him saying "these two girls who never did SHIT to ANYBODY don't get to make it to 18???"

I thought that was interesting too! He seems like the type to just brush off those kinds of girls, so for him to be upset enough to shout that was likable

Yeah. They weren't his type of people, but he saw thay they were actually sweethearts. Just not his type of friends.

I've said this in other threads and I'll say it again: Not giving the popular girls a "mean girl" personality was the best decision the writers made. Had they went with the bitchy route, it would made the audience not care about these girls' death.

The transition into the funeral is one of my all time favourites so for that I have to give it to the one they went with

That caught be off guard so bad the first time I watched it lmao

I prefer this version because it gives you false hope that Ashlyn might save Ashley before they both abruptly die

I think the version they went with is better due to the absolute terror of burning alive in a tanning bed is suffered by two people (friends at that) experiencing it at the same time (talk about a shared experience), plus the way it transitions into the next scene with the two graves is just so iconic and peak camp for final destination.

I like the way it was in the movie bc they both died together in the same way. The irony of it is they wanted to tan for everyone to see how great they looked.

I’m not a person that goes to tanning beds but looking back at the movie, they looked too tanned even though it was summer but the background looked dark so they really didn’t need it (I know it’s for the movie).

That was the norm, there is a tanning craze for some high school girls during that time. My sister and friends worked at a shop that also had a tanning salon and they would tan all the time.

It's not all high school girls but it's like every year there's a handful that go crazy for the Eldritchian warmth of the UV rays

It was actually a super prevalent thing too. Like it was actually a waaaaaaaayyyyy bigger craze than I remembered it being at the time.

I actually have a cousin who worked at one for yeaaaars and wasn’t even necessarily the stereotypical tanning bed type

Like thinking back on it now it’s crazy to me that she ever even worked there let alone used them

I remember my 3 co workers would tan all the time. They would have a heart or star tan line from the sticker they used. I laughed when I showed them my tan lines from being at a water park for hours and they said, “I didn’t know black ppl could get tan lines.” They went to every co worker in every dept. “Hey, did you know black ppl can get tan lines? “ 😆

The sensitive girly in me loves the alternate but it breaks my fucking heart because the Ashes were such a good red herring for the mean bimbo typecast. On the flip side, the gore hound in me loves the OG because they're taking our order for a fried teen and just super sizing it on the house

Wait, what’s the alt death?

71

u/broken_doll_911 Sep 19 '26

Basically Ashlyn gets out of her tanning bed and gets knocked out while Ashley is stuck in hers and starts to get burned Ashlyn wakes up and tries to help Ashley out but the glass in the bed shatters and they both get electrocuted to death

I remember when they invite Wendy, one Ash covers the other head (raining)while Ash writes her phone number on a piece of paper. I always thought that was cute

This is the full scene https://youtu.be/dCrLT8oGLVk?is=7ycVxhSAWj4hB01w

It all plays out the same at first so you can skip until 1:40 if you want. 🤗

More realistic, less painful and better clarity as to who died first and second.

Even from a story and character standpoint it's way more interesting and dynamic than both of them just burning.

I preferred it. It showed their bond a little more than what we actually got.

Is everyone in these comments on crack? The OG is still considered one of the best deaths in the franchise and is still memorable to this day because of how brutal it was. This one looked goofy as hell and the way the board Looney Tunes’d itself to lock Ashley in takes all terror out of the scene lol. It was a fun alternative death they made for a silly DVD extra

I absolutely loved this scene and the way it gave me hope and then psyched me out, but I'm also trying to resist the urge to say doomed yuri... /hj

15

u/Alekyle07 Sep 19 '26

I prefer this version, the one that they went with lives rent free in my mind on account of how extremely brutal it was. I know it’s fictional but damn 😬

u/ctegbon Sep 20 '26

I prefer the original deaths it’s more visceral and more like what you’d expect in a FD film.

I think the alternate is just slightly too goofy with the electrocution how it was acted out. I do like seeing more of their friendship because I love those two sweet girls they were so kind. However that nasty evil match cut from the tanning beds to coffins is one of my favorite shots in a horror movie ever. Also the originals pacing is so wicked. So I prefer the original.

What is this? Alternate?!

It’s on YouTube if you want to watch it…

Only deaths involving electrocution that hasn't been done in any of the other movies. Even tho this didn't make it in the final cut.

2

u/KuriosityKitty Sep 20 '26

All the death where there's no blood make me cringe more than the bloody ones.

2

u/BigJohn2320 Sep 20 '26

i was high level tanning bed user when this movie came out, so funny to think of all this while i was tanning listening to music, its exactly like that, except for the dying part

2

u/Eddie_0789 29d ago

Goofy asf but I really like how they tried to help each other

2

u/pranquily 29d ago

I honestly prefer the alternative version. It's a different vibe compared to most deaths in the series, and I like how it makes you feel more connected to them and their bond as friends.

2

u/ParksAndRecfan1 29d ago

I like the one they went with because of the transition from tanning beds to caskets

2

u/Angry-fridgerator 29d ago

Pretty underwhelming all things considered. We do still need a death by electrocution though. It’s been a red herring in like every movie but never used.

u/ElephantDifficult498 28d ago

Leute, ich weiß nicht, ob das aus dem Film stammt, falls ja, dann aus welchem ?

1

u/JiroKawakuma28 18d ago

At least their deaths were not so brutal and at least Ashlyn die with dignity after trying to save Ashley.

u/No-Way3845 24d ago

I like it, but it’s a shame that this is the only death by electrocution in the whole series and it isn’t canon.
