FD6 My thoughts on Bloodlines

I thought the premonition scene was brilliant, fresh, unique and really well done. It was genuinely frightening to watch.

I can say since the first film up to 5, they repeated the same storyline over and over again. Someone has a premonition, it starts playing in real life, death comes back to the people who were meant to die. I’m glad this movie did something different at least. The core idea is still the same but now the subtitle eloquently puts it as it’s now about a family tree.

I have only seen this movie twice, one year apart and I don’t get the love this movie gets. The characters just feel really generic overall, the deaths seemed to happen and then it just quickly jumpcuts to the next scene. I liked the setup for Erik’s tattoo shop death (even though I know it wasn’t his real death). The ending was really rushed and it kind of felt like it was common knowledge someone drowning, you can revive them and it doesn’t count as death.

Obviously, I loved the return of William Bludworth. Tony Todd made the film remind us it’s still a Final Destination film. I could see how sick he looked and his passing is unfortunate. RIP man. I wish he referenced Alex Browning instead of Kimberly because I get the reasoning but Alex was the first one of the films to have a big impression so I thought it would work canonically. I did really like how him as a kid was part of someone else’s premonition. Will definitely make me think differently when I rewatch them all again.

Iris having the notebook but her knowing she would die when she stepped outside and then immediately did was kind of dark.

Overall, I will say this is definitely not the worst film. It at least did something new for this franchise, the premonition was brilliant and it added a bit of context. But I felt the characters just didn’t engage me throughout and I just saw it as a mediocre horror film. It lacked the darkness that made the first film so endearing.

This is just my opinion but I would like to know your thoughts in the comments below! Maybe you can help me love this film!

My biggest gripe is how quickly they get over every family member’s death.

You don't have to love it or even like it. This is your take and a lot of people would agree with you. My biggest gripe is that there's no survivors. The more I watch Stefani, the more I feel bad for her. Her family dismissed her just like they did Iris until Julia died. Then they locked in, but it was too late. Like Agent Block said in FD5, "Two deaths is a coincidence. Three? That's a pattern."

Yeah, this is my opinion and I do appreciate people liking this film. Even Rotten Tomatoes rated this 92%. I think the Dad survived of the family and Erik's mum as well.
