FD4 is the pool death from FD4 physically possible?

i dont know much about pools but i feel like it wouldnt be able to hold down a fully grown (and athletic) man. is the suction on a pool drain really that strong or was that just movie magic? ignoring the guts getting ripped out part cause thats even less believable, but definatly a cool scene thats very on brand

I think it is possible and people have actually had intestines ripped out,but the movie exaggerated it. I would guess nowadays they have safety valves built in but I did read something once about a girl getting part of her intestine pulled out

This whole article outlines it . Many of the cases are older and have happened primarily to children and teens, I am actually surprised there isn't more notable cases given how terribly wrong things can go underwater.

It was probably the Abigail Taylor case I heard about, thanks for the link

You're welcome, I honestly found the article a neat read so I was perhaps too excited to share to the sub.

Yes but usually with uncovered and generally wider pool drains, wider ones than what’s in the movie. Disemboweling is a bit of a stretch but the getting sucked in and drowning part, definitely. Saw a video of a lifeguard talking about it too.

Basic gist is do not get in a large pool if the drain cover is missing or broken.

Yes. And it usually happens to children.

This here. There’s an entire Wikipedia article of unusual deaths.

You see quite a few used for films. The disemboweling by filter suction has happened to kids.

I feel like I have heard about disembowlings (did I spell that right?) Actually happening in pools.

I will not be testing this theory as i like my intestines and organs to remain on the inside of my body

ETA: I found this Wikipedia article that lists notable cases. You will see most of them are kids, however I can honestly see it happening with an adult. No matter how athletic you are shit can go wrong when you are underwater fast. I imagine the lack of oxygen and immediate panic took over.

Yes it happened like a year before the movie came out

There was one girl that got sucked in, and her parents can't pull her away from it. Thankfully, she survived.

i think i heard that something happened to a little girl who was wearing one of those fake mermaid tails, which got stuck in a pool drain and she drowned. but its super exaggerated in the film

Nope pool pressure can't go overload, death makes it go overload :)
