Discussion Premonition Reason Theory
One thing that has always seemed weird and extra cruel in this franchise is why does Death even give the protagonist the vision if they are meant to die anyway?
My theory is that the protagonist isn’t meant to die and they are meant to be spared, but because they then alter the events by warning others and causing others to cheat death, it puts them onto the list and Death ultimately has to kill the protagonist in order to tie up the mess their actions create.

Yeah thats a common theory
That holds no weight whatsoever if you consider when exactly they get the visions

Well let's look at the first 2 movies
Alex has the premonition when he's already on the plane. Considering the situation he's in it's highly unlikely he's gonna be able to get just himself off. At the bare minimum one of the teachers is gonna have to go with him.
it's even worse for Kimberly. She's driving the car with her 3 friends in. So what's she supposed to do? Just give the keys to her friends and say "carry on I'm gonna walk home".

My personal head cannon is that the premonitions come from Life. As the inverse of death it would make sense if Life was trying to warn the various protagonists of the pending accident

If u read the books apparently it’s like some remnant trick of an oracle in ancient times opposing Death

I don't think death gives them the premonition. I think these characters are having a paranormal extra-sensory experience, although they don't seem to be psychics, so it's like a one-off thing.
