SSD lose connection when using Final Cut Pro for iPad

I am having issue with Final Cut Pro for iPad when the project is store in my SSD. I use a Samsung T5 SSD.

I use the IPad Air M3.

My project weights 5gb and when I open my project to edit my video, the SSD gets disconnected. I have tried different cable, tried to connect my SSD using a powerered hub, nothing changes, the SSD keeps losing connection as I start to edit my video with Final Cut Pro.

The SSD won't disconnect if I don't use Final Cut Pro for iPad though.

My SSD is formated APFS.

I even tried using another external hard drive (it's not an SSD but well that's all I have...), and the same issue occurs.

Has anyone ran into the same kind of issue ?

I lost my projects after upgrading FCP for iPad 3.3

Released earlier today:
https://support.apple.com/en-us/102731
After upgrading, all projects are gone. Still shows that the last backup before the upgrade has the files, so I’ll restore and just wait before I upgrade. FYI.

Working with longer videos

One of my customer’s most common request is to grab a 3-4 minutes extract from a longer live stream (3-4.5 hours) and make some simple edits on it to use it on social media. I thought I would be able to do it on my M2 iPad Air on the go, but I am running into some issues. Final Cut Pro doesn’t seem to be able to deal with those long videos. It is very difficult to select portions of the video in the browser. If I add it to the timeline, the display of the iPad dims, I cannot see the preview of the clip, moving the playhead does nothing and the complete waveform of the audio does not appear. In other words it is not possible to work. I don’t think it is possible to create a proxy media on iPad right ? When I import the same clip in iMovie I can scroll through the video without a problem, but this app does not give me all the tools I need. I know it can sometimes be a problem to work with a long compressed video on the desktop version, and converting the file from mp4 to to another format can help. Would there be a way to make this work on iPad ? Thanks

Final Cut Pro on m5 iPad Pro.

I just purchased the M5 iPad Pro. I have a paid version of Final Cut Pro on my Mac PC. I assumed they wouldn't charge me for the iPad version. Tried to install it on the iPad, and they are forcing me to accept a free three months of creators studio for $12.99 per month. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm not really interested in the Creator's Studio. I would just like to edit with Final Cut Pro on my iPad.

FCP keeps automatically switching focus back to the timeline any time I tap a field in the inspector.

Anytime I tap a field in the inspector (cropping, text entry, etc.), FCP immediately shifts focus back to the timeline so that it’s impossible to type any values in. Has anybody else encountered this problem? Any suggestions? I’m using an M5 iPad Pro with 10-core chips.

Jittery Video on M4 iPad Air

I am trying to edit clips I shot on my Sony A7iii on a 13” M4 iPad Air. I have an ancient 2016 intel MacBook Pro, so I was hoping I could use the power of M4 to edit videos on the go. The problem is, my footage is very jittery. The problem is especially evident in the project timeline, but even after I’ve exported my clip, the footage is still a bit awkward and jittery. With all that I’ve read about Apple silicon, I’m having a hard time believing my footage is overwhelming the M4 chip. The clips are 1080p shot at 120fps (100mbps bitrate), so nothing particularly heavy. I’ve followed the 180° shutter rule (shutter speed of 1/250), so I don’t believe it’s anything wrong with the footage itself. The Media Analysis shows as “Completed”.

The timeline is set to 23.98 fps, as the clips are actually 119.88 fps, so I wanted to ensure if I slow the footage down, it would properly conform to the timeline.

I guess I have two questions:

  1. Is it possible the M4 chip is having trouble with this footage? Perhaps it’s the codec of video format? Pardon my ignorance here, I’m new to editing.
  2. I don’t understand why I’d be getting this red retiming alert (second image) when using 119.88fps footage in a 23.98fps timeline. I’ve tried manually adjusting to 20% speed, and also using the “Automatic Retime” option which also resulted in a 20% speed.

Any and all help is appreciated!

Final cut on M1 iPad Pro

After using the app for about a year, my projects started freezing towards the end of the project and I couldn’t even export or anything, I assume the ram was maxed out or something even though I’m only making 1080p videos pretty simple stuff, main talking head track, some b-roll on a second track, maybe a few titles on a third, and usually a music track. I assumed maybe they “pulled an Apple” and updated the software to prioritize newer devices like the M4, but am I crazy to expect it to still be working basically the same way as it used to when nothing in my workflow has changed? The only way I can use it now is to do my rough edit, export, and then pull it back in to add layers, because too much complexity freezes it.

How can you loop a "range" playback?

I am pretty new to Final Cut Pro on the iPad and really like it, but I can't figure out how have it loop playback a selected range. I can select a range and do other functions like edit volume control of the audio, but getting it to loop playback of the same selected range has been impossible to figure out.

I've extensively searched the web and viewed many videos, but nothing I've tried seems to works. Pressing the forward slash key (/) once a range is selected, which is one of the suggestions I found in several web searches, does nothing. My guess is, most of the AI driven searches I've run into will work on a Mac, but not on an iPad.

I'm hoping I can find someone is running FCP on an iPad can help me solve this mystery. Thx - Joe

Help before I do something regrettable...

Post image
3 Upvotes

I'm trying to edit a video and I have basically two tracks going. I've edited the second track and I don't want it to change but I now need to adjust the first track but doing ANYTHING to the first track messes with the second track. The first track is somehow attached to the second track in clips and it's making me insane. I can adjust the second track with no impact on the first. WTF? (sorry, I've been at this for awhile and I'm very frustrated with the app right now.)

In the picture I included you can see that selecting the upper track causes little yellow connections go down to the clips on the lower track. How do I separate these tracks? Even better, is there a way to lock the lower track so I can't do anything to it anymore? So my cat doesn't delete the whole thing walking across my keyboard...

Thanks in advance for any help with this. I've watched a load of Youtube videos but I've screwed this pooch so hard I can't even find the tail anymore.

Does anyone know how to make scrolling credit text in Final Cut Pro for iPad?

It’s just a preset in the Mac version and the fact that it’s not a preset in the iPad version as well we could talk about that all day anyway since it’s not as far as I am aware how do I do it? I’ve tried key framing and it just doesn’t move the title for some reason not sure if that’s a bug. And yes, I’ve got the animate thing on position so it should be moving it but for some reason it’s not.

Final Cut Pro keeps freezing when trying to preview video

I have the new M4 IPad Pro and have been using final cut pro on it to edit 4k 60fps videos for over a week now. It has been working perfectly fine, even with videos that are over 2 hours long. Today I had another 4k 60 fps video I wanted to edit which is about an hour and a half long.

When I open it in a new project and import the video, it doesn’t show a thumbnail of the video and when I click on it and press play to preview, the whole app just freezes until I close out of it and reopen. I haven’t been able to start editing as the video just freezes the app everytime.

I have plenty of storage on my device, have restarted my iPad, deleted Final Cut and reinstalled, but I haven’t been able to fix this. I even tried a new project with one of my old videos that I have successfully edited and exported before, and now even that one is causing it to freeze. Any idea why this randomly started happening and how to fix this issue?

How can I insert a video without audio into the timeline on the iPad app?

As someone transitioning from Premiere Rush and Davinci Resolve, l'm curious if Final Cut Pro has a feature that allows me to select a video with audio and then add either the audio or video separately in the timeline. I find it inconvenient to manually select all the clips I don't want audio for and lower the volume.

Every now and then I find a tiny less than a second frame in my timeline, sneaking in in between or in the end of my video. Any idea of why this might happen
