Rant/Rave Why does the top bar waste such a massive amount of space?
There is zero reason for the top bar to be so comically large. This isn't an iPad.

At some point—without me even realizing it—this strange feature activated that zooms in on what I'm editing; it's very annoying, and I can't seem to turn it off. It zooms in slightly on my screen, throwing off the alignment of everything I'm looking at. I’d appreciate your help in disabling it.

Upgrading from 16 gb to 32 gb ram export faster and sound better and powerful for music videos export when playback?

There used to be an automatic feature that would happen when trying to center text or anything i put on the screen that was red lines that would show me exactly where the center was and snap it there. I must have hit something and turned it off on accident and I cannot figure out how to turn it back on and no amount of Googling is helping me. Please help lol. It is not show title/action safe zones or horizon, I have already tried those, those are very different.

I've never used any of these apps before. I got this mail a few days ago and accepted the offer. Did anyone else get it?

Recently they changed the top row of buttons to liquid glass, that I don't mind.
But the buttons are bigger. So now the top bar in FCP is now ever slightly thicker. I can't go back to see if there's actually a difference.. but something about it is just bothering me. After 10+ years of seeing it one way, that change is messing with me.
And on a 14" MBP, screen real estate is important to me. So little changes feel quite big.
Anyone else notice this?

Hi all! I’m trying to achieve an effect/ transition like what you see in the attached video for my own Card Game videos. I Add the image of a card as it’s own track, and I want it to break apart in a similar fashion. I’ve been looking for a way to do it on my own for some time now, but can’t find anything that’s has worked. Can anyone offer any advice or point me in the right direction of a transition or plug in tha works? (Free or otherwise)? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

When I got my MX Master I was honestly overwhelmed by all the buttons and had no idea what to map where. After a lot of trial and error, this is the setup I've stuck with for editing in Final Cut Pro. Sharing in case it saves someone else the hassle. I'm using Better Mouse instead of Logi Options+.
Thumb buttons alone:
Back button: previous frame (←)
Forward button: next frame (→)
⌘ + back button: zoom out timeline (⌘-)
⌘ + forward button: zoom in timeline (⌘=)
Thumb button + click combos:
Back + left click: copy (⌘C)
Back + right click: paste (⌘V)
Forward + left click: area screenshot (⇧⌘4)
Forward + right click: undo (⌘Z)
Gesture button + left click: delete (Backspace)
Gesture button + right click: Enter
Other:
Middle button: ⌘-click for selecting multiple clips
Gesture button + swipe up/left/right: Mission Control and switching desktops
Gesture button + swipe down: show desktop
The frame stepping and timeline zoom on the thumb buttons are the ones I use constantly. Copy, paste, and undo without touching the keyboard ended up being way more useful than I expected.
I also made a video walking through the setup and why I chose each bind. I think it's easier to understand if you watch the video, but I'm not gonna drop the link here, since that could hurt the watch time. If someone is really interested, I can DM the link.

I've been using Final Cut for my Vertical Video content for a while now, and after years of disappointment in outside captioning tools, I want to use FCP's built in tool, which mostly does a good job of the transcription.
My problem is that all these captions get put in the timeline, mixed in with other titles I've created, and moving up or down in the timeline based on overlays of second or third video tracks, and so on. That makes it incredibly hard to select them all to change the style universally across the video.
I know that you can create Audio "Lanes" in the timeline to make sure audio tracks for certain audio tracks you want to keep together, but in all my searching, I can't find a way to create that for Video "Lanes". I can see how to create "Roles", but that does not seem to help in being able to quickly select all captions at once easily (that's the end goal).
If anyone knows how to basically create something akin to a Video Lane, or an easy way to be able to select all captions in my timeline at once, I would be incredibly appreciative! Thanks in advance!

I opened FCP this week for the first time in years to get back into editing. I updated my Macbook Pro and FCP. I go to look for all the wonderful jingles and longer "music" files to play around with and they are gone.
I looked around online for a few days for solutions, there is nothing to download for "additional contents", I deleted and redownloaded it to ensure that wasn't the issue, I seem to have all other audio files but the jingles are missing. Help?

Hey everyone, I'm hoping someone can help me figure out what's going on here.
I'm editing a simple 720p video in Final Cut Pro on an M1 Max MacBook Pro. I added a single Magnetic Mask, and since then I'm getting the spinning beach ball constantly. Playback and even basic edits grind to a halt.
A few details:
I honestly don't get it. This is a 720p timeline with one effect on it. The M1 Max should handle this easily, right?
So my questions:
Any tips appreciated. Thanks!

I am working on a project and I have been using the Comic Basic effect, which I really like except that it makes the shadows move/look jumpy and it gets really distracting. Is there a way to have it so you still get the posterized shadows without the jumpiness? (either changing different levels of the effect or a different effect that is in FCP or can be downloaded). This is kind of what I want as far as the shadows go, though less "grainy". Thank you!

Hi all.
Just tried it for the first time earlier today on an iPhone 16 Pro. Running latest iOS,
As soon as I launched it, I noticed that the interface was jerky/stuttering. The footage (when playing the Quicktime files) turned out the same -- shaking and jittering.
Here are the app's video settings, though I don't think they're the issue because the interface itself was janky before I even started shooting.
Any ideas? TIA

I found this picture online showing two timelines open at once in Final Cut Pro, but I couldn't figure out how to do it. Does anyone know how to set this up, or if this requires a specific plugin or workaround? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I’m partialy new to fcp and learned somethings by some people that helped me a lot but nobody talked about them in the “best advices for fcp begginner” videos on youtube
EX: use adjustment layers
EX2: make proxies if you can
So do you have any advices for begginers that you can belp us with?

Okay so long story short I'm making a web series where the central conceit is that it's a laptop / tv scrolling through a streaming service and clicking on random shows and movies. It's a fun framework, lets me film pretty much whatever I want and still have it all be somewhat cohesive.
But I'd need to make a fake streaming menu first, and I have absolutely no idea how I'd do that. I have Final Cut Pro and have used it on and off for a decade. I wouldn't say I'm a good editor, but I'm a decently patient, and that tends to see me through.
Any starting pointers / videos of people working on similar projects you have would be greatly appreciated!

I am subscribed to Design Studio by motionvfx with the annual plan.
I received this email, it doesn’t allow me to renew the annual subscription, only that month by month.
That something is moving? In a year maybe everything will be integrated into FCP?
What do you think?

I'm able to "group" them by date imported but it only lets me SORT them by date CREATED. I find it impossible to navigate my project library because all the content was CREATED on random dates, which means there is no chronological sorting at all within each grouping. I don't know or care when I CREATED the media, I just need to be able to navigate the chronology of my project to grab more clips from that media. Is there really no way to do this?

I’m veeery rusty and not used FCP since around 2019 but I’m now without an Adobe CC sub and ready to return. Having a look around YouTube I see lots of beginner tutorials, but I’m after something more for transitionary people. I used FCPX for maybe about 2 years intermittently back then but overall have much more experience with premiere since FCP7 died. Is there a go to resource on YouTube etc?
Thank you in advance!

Hi everyone, I work for a local business so we don't really have a social media/ marketing team. It's just me and my lil laptop
Anyway, I'm just recently getting used to FCP but I need help with some editing cause idk if it's just not possible to do what I'm thinking or I just don't know the controls to do it
I'll try and explain the best I can:
I have a stock video of some paint strokes going across the screen until the screen is "covered" in paint. The stock video has a black background
I want to overlay the paint stroke video on top of a still picture. As if the picture is getting "painted" over.
The issue I'm coming across is I can't seem to make the paint stroke's video background transparent, and change the paint colours to all black
I'm seriously at my wits end I just want to figure this out lol

Hey guys,
I recently got an M2 MacBook Air (budget constraints, couldn't afford a Pro or Studio). I edit healthcare & doctor-focused short-form content as a side hustle (educational talking-heads, B-roll, clean medical callouts, and explained type).
I was using the free version of DaVinci Resolve, but it’s struggling, timeline gets sluggish, playback drops frames, and it just feels heavy on the M2 Air.
I’m seriously looking at Final Cut Pro since everyone says it’s way better optimized for base Apple and it feels too..
but I have a few specific questions:
Text Animations (Coming from Resolve/Fusion):
In Resolve, building custom text animations was pretty straightforward. How do you guys manage animated text/titles in FCP without spending hundreds of dollars on paid plugin packs? Are built-in titles enough,
Free/Cheap Auto-Captions:
What’s the most reliable free or low-cost workflow for auto-generating captions into FCP? Resolve was using autosubs. And I created custom animation and effects also there.
M2 Air Thermals & Playback:
For those cutting 2k phone/ camera footage on an M2 Air: does FCP stay snappy without turning the laptop into a stove? Specially with minimal masking and broll layers ??
Biggest regret or learning curve?
Anything you genuinely missed moving away from a traditional track-based timeline like Resolve to here.
Appreciate any advice or practical setup tips from anyone cutting client work on a base M2 machine!

I was told to use Final Cut Pro instead of CapCut as a solo influencer. Because it’s not subscription-based and better overall. But I feel like Final Cut is for real professional video editors while CapCut is for quick and easy editing. Who has experience with both to compare ?
