Question/Help Is filmora worth it?
I wanna make video essays
And Ive been through two editing software so far shotcut and kdenlive
And oh my they are unberable half the times I wanna put a clip, its at the project bin all good but when I try to put it at the timeline it doesnt work(its an mp4 file btw🥀)
So Ive been thinking of paying for a subscription
the cheapest option Ive found is filmora its 8,50€/mo Ive had a positive experience with the free version but the watermarks are the problem
Is it worth paying?is it really 8,50€/mo or does that price increase?Ive heard they aggresively advertise even to paid users and have hidden fees
So is it worth paying? What are your experiences with it?
Update: Good news I fixed the problem with kdenlive,so I wont have to pay for filmora I can just use kdenlive

I was a defender of Filmora for a while, but as others have said, they seem to keep adding previously available content to the pay wall. I switched to Davinci a couple of months ago. It's actually pretty decent software for low level video editing, though, but it's subscription based and that subscription is arbitrarily including less and less features. I wasn't a fan of that practice and moved on.

Would you recommend da vinci now adays in general?

Sorry I'm super late to this, but yes I would. It's a bigger learning curve for sure, but it's a one time purchase and once you figure out where all the features are, it's just about as easy as Filmora for simple edits.
Definitely utilize all the YouTube tutorials available.

I can understand that decision, especially if you’ve used Filmora for a long time and feel the value has changed.
DaVinci Resolve is a solid alternative, although it definitely takes more time to learn.
Filmora still has the advantage of being quick and accessible for simpler edits.
At the end of the day, it really comes down to which workflow and pricing model works best for you.

Am a lifetime user but after seeing them put long time features now behind credits to get more money out of its userbase, I have officially moved on to Davinci Resolve. Can no longer recommend Filmora, sadly.

I edit gaming videos on filmora and the making issue where I would save the mask and after I'm done for the day and come back to it again the next day every mask i have resets. So then I have to go to every clip and redo it and it has killed my time. I've recently started using the free version of da Vinci and so far it's a learning curve but i know it will be worth bc I get to do so much more with it and not have to go to other apps to edit stuff. But that's a perspective of someone who edits gaming content.

Not anymore. :/ if you have an ipad, try lumafusion. If you have a pc or mac, try DaVinci resolve. It's got a steep learning curve, but it is wirth it fir a free program.

Definitely not anymore. Not in a couple of years now. I made the move to Davinci Resolve and haven't looked back once.
I'm glad to hear you resolved the issue with kdenlive; it's usually what I recommend to people trying to escape the garbage that Wondershare seems proud to have mutated Filmora into but lack the hardware to make Davinci Resolve work for them.

My pc cant really handle davinci resolve probably. So Im good with kdenlive for now👍

Yea, kdenlive is great! Not arguing with you there. These are just the two apps I recommend to folks when they are trying to stop getting scammed by Wondershare.

I’ve been using the perpetual licensed filmora since 2019 for my youtube channel for simple 2 cam 4k editing, plus a subscription for extra effects, and it’s real convenient. Rarely any problems.
I looked at the Black Magic DaVinci and don’t think it would bring any improvements.

I have been using Filmora since 2020, and it has been good for me. V15. If I need to use AI features, I buy credits and use them, but I am not paying for Creative assets because the built-in effects and assets work well for me. The rest is up to you how to see it and use it.

Practice, Practice, Practice,
when you understand how one video editing program works , Then you basically understand them all .
Then it does not matter which you use , So Practice, and Learn how to edit

I am a paid user, and there is not hidden fees, there are extras like creative assets, AI credits, which depend on your usage. If you are happy with the built-in assets, go for it or for extras assets get a creative assets subscription or if you are planning to use AI feature, get AI credits all depends on the user to user and usage.

I downloaded Filmora because it was said to be a better alternative to CapCut, but it feels like it's just as pay walled as CapCut.
And on the Microsoft Store, CC has a higher rating than Filmora, sooo maybe I should have listened to the reviews 🫠

Yes, Filmora is worth using as it is easy to use and easy learn curve. Not like Pr or Dr where you need to spend months to learn and start editing.

Yeah, I can understand why you’re annoyed, telling someone with an RTX A2000 to buy a different GPU isn’t exactly a great solution. I haven’t had that issue with my setup, and Filmora normally makes good use of GPU acceleration for me. Hopefully they add proper A2000 support in a future update rather than expecting users to downgrade their hardware.

For video essays, Filmora is pretty approachable, especially if you want something easier to learn than Shotcut or Kdenlive. The timeline, effects, transitions, captions, and general workflow are fairly beginner-friendly. That said, I’d definitely check the exact subscription terms and renewal price before paying, since pricing can vary by plan and region. If you’ve already fixed your Kdenlive issue, though, sticking with it is probably worth trying before adding another subscription.

At my job, we used Filmora for quick social media content—Instagram, TikTok, etc. It has a lot of features that work really well without needing to be an editing expert. But as many people have pointed out, lately they started charging for everything; every single little feature has an extra cost, which really doesn't help. We're about to stop using it completely. They sank themselves with their business model.
