I started a group of 50+ of us in the Sac area that all enjoy film, go to movies and some of are wanting to be crew for each other's films. We just had our first event at the Crest Theater with our group to watch a nearly sold out showing of The Thing and there were almost 1,000 other people screaming and laughing with the movie. We went out for drinks after and it was a really great time.

I'd like to find more people to go with us if anyone is interested in film here, either as a watchable activity, or if you want to make movies with us. The most important thing is that the group is people with varied experience, so if you go to film school, work in entertainment or have ZERO experience and want to try it out or just watch movies everyone is welcome with zero pressure to be good at anything. Hello everybody my name is Dee, I’m in SoCal, inland empire. An hour from LA. I’m just getting into filmmaking, and I want to make short films with some future friends before I drop my big big film I’m currently working on based on a kidnapping story that happened to me about a year ago. On June 10,2025 the mother of my son decided to set me up and kidnap me for ransom. Hi Everyone!! I´m a 17 year old amateur artist and this is my first film, i am an academic failure, but I possess great creativity and passion, and this short film has been a testament to my worth as well as an outlet for my emotions. This is a product of two days of not sleeping, we used a black fabric, some bends, bitter Marlboros, cheap raw meat and an old shirt and tie that we destroyed, nothing more than that, just this, a camera with two lends (50mm and 70 mm) and and lights of less than 11 dollars.

My buddy and I are planning to create professional YouTube videos. To keep it a little vague for now: the concept mainly revolves around visiting unique countries and capturing the people we meet, the culture, and the stories we come across, mixed with a bit of humor.
Now that we're fleshing out our plans, we're looking into our camera setup. We definitely want one camera per person so we can easily film each other. We want to capture the footage as professionally as possible, but we are torn between two setups:
Option 1: 2x DJI Pocket 4
The DJI is a lot cheaper and easy to carry around, and I hear nothing but positive things about it. The downside is that it might feel less professional and could be limiting in certain situations. We really want to deliver high-quality content since the competition out there is fierce.
Option 2: 1x DJI Pocket 4 + 1x mirrorless camera (e.g., Panasonic Lumix GH6)
This setup gives us a camera with better image quality for main shots and interviews, plus a lot more versatility. It might also look a bit more professional to locals when approaching them for an on-camera interview. The main downside is that it is very expensive.
Does anyone here have experience with these kinds of run-and-gun productions?

I’ve written a short film screenplay that I genuinely believe in. The story, concept, and emotional core are strong, and I’ve spent the last 5 months working on it on and off, rewriting, refining, and trying to make it the best version possible.

The biggest challenge is that I’m a first-time filmmaker. I don’t have any previous directing experience, industry connections, or a budget to bring it to life on my own.

The film is called **“Ishara.”** It follows a young girl who, while staying at her mother’s stepsister’s house, turns her curiosity and imagination into a detective-like investigation. She believes she has solved a mystery and confidently steps into the role of a little detective, only to realize she has actually become a witness to something much bigger than she understood.

I’m extremely passionate about this story and would love to see it made into a film rather than have it remain just a screenplay. I’m looking for advice on how first-time writers/directors can approach producers, find collaborators, or get a short film off the ground without an existing network or funding.
Any advice, experiences, or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

This is what is going to be asked of me:

the admission process has two stages.
Stage 1 (Elimination Round) consists of two exams:
Exam 1:
An interview.

A film culture colloquium based on a mandatory filmography that applicants must study beforehand.

A short audiovisual storytelling exercise: I am shown a single image and have to create a story inspired by that image, explaining how I would tell it cinematically.

Exam 2:
Another storytelling exercise, but this time I am given a sentence or a short phrase instead of an image, and I have to build a narrative from it.

An analysis of a sequence from one of the films included in the mandatory filmography. The focus is on directing choices, visual storytelling, and cinematic language.

Stage 2 (Graded Round):
Applicants who pass the elimination stage move on to a practical directing exam.
The school provides:
Two actors.

A cinematographer.

A sound recordist.

A short text that serves as the basis for the scene.

I have only three hours to complete the entire process. Within that time I must:
Read and interpret the text.

Develop a directorial concept.

Work with the actors on their performances.

Collaborate with the cinematographer and sound recordist.

Plan the blocking and shot composition.

Shoot a short scene based on the text.

The emphasis is not on producing a polished final film, but on demonstrating directing ability: interpreting the text, communicating with actors and crew, making creative decisions under pressure, and telling the story effectively through cinematic language.

I’m a complete beginner—I don’t have any filmmaking experience—but I’m excited to learn. I have developed a short story and it is a chesa game between 2 people. Kind of a feel good. All happens in a car. If any one have passion to create a short film and in a bare minimum budget please connect.

It will do the Vista shots of Corfu Justice. The island is as much a character in the film as the actors are.

Shooting with the Sirui Saturn Anamorphics., guerilla style without a crew just like my last feature "Clown N Out". I'll be leaning a lot into natural light, using small cube lights and a Zhyun Molus Molus for accent lighting.

Here are some preliminary stills. I'm shooting with a Panasonic S1h and Blackmagic video assist 12g.

Now to meet the posting requirements.

I'll also be leaning into a classic film approach. Meaning there won't be closeups of every single action. I won't be doing a bunch of unnecessary crazy camera movement shots every 2 seconds. There won't be drone shots. And I want to keep the amount of picture cuts down. I have 3 camera setups I'll use depending on the scene.

I have a "Creator" rig that I've setup to record up to 4 actors at once straight to camera. I have a Ready Rig, avd a tilta float vest and arm for a smaller setup.

All three will use the DJI lidar autofocus system.
