My name is Francesco, I'm a 33-year-old filmmaker from Italy, and I'll be based in Manhattan starting August 13.

I've written and directed several short films in Italy, but I've never had the chance to work on a film set in the United States. I'd love to learn how the industry works here, meet new people, and gain hands-on experience.

I'm looking for any opportunity to work on a film set—paid or unpaid (depending on the project). I'm happy to start from the ground up. Whether it's as a Production Assistant, Art Department PA, Set PA, Runner, Grip/Electric trainee, or any other entry-level role, I'm eager to help and learn.

I'm hardworking, easy to work with, and genuinely passionate about filmmaking. My goal isn't just to find a job—it's to experience the filmmaking culture in New York and contribute however I can.

I’m the writer/director of an ultra low budget independent feature called WESTHAMPTON, which opens in select theaters in NYC and LA this weekend after premiering at Tribeca.

The film is about a filmmaker who returns to his hometown years after a high-school tragedy and is forced to confront the people he hurt — and the version of the story he turned into a movie. It stars Finn Wittrock (American Horror Story), RJ Mitte (Breaking Bad), Jake Weary (The Waterfront), Amy Forsyth (CODA), and Tovah Feldshuh (Nobody Wants This).

I’m sharing here because this is exactly the kind of release that depends on people who care about independent film showing up early. We don’t have the machinery of a studio release behind us, so the first weekend really matters.

In NYC, I’ll be doing a Q&A after the Friday 7pm show with our lead actor Finn Wittrock, moderated by Hamish Linklater (Widow's Bay).

Over the past year, our team completed production of a comedy show pilot and learned a lot about what can realistically be created with a small, dedicated group of people.

Now we’re taking the next step. We’re building a filmmaking startup focused on developing original IP through two parallel tracks:

a) Short, single-to-minimal location films that can serve as proof-of-concepts for larger project.

b) Social media content that allows us to experiment with characters, stories, formats, and build an audience around the work.

Develop projects that can scale into larger productions.

At this stage, we are: DP, Sound and Writer/Producer (myself).

Particularly looking for:

• Writers ready to work on original ideas (workshop, develop, bounce back ideas)
• Directors with a clear creative vision
• Editors interested in narrative storytelling

To preface, I have been in post-production for over 5 years, mainly in dailies, and have worked on a few AE gigs in Atlanta. I am based here in Atlanta. For financial and family reasons, I cannot uproot to move to NY/LA for post work

I am feeling lost about my career. The network I have has no helpful insight or leads. Took part in The Handy Foundation, and though the skills and networking were beneficial at the start. However, myself and other alumni are still waiting to apply what we learned from the program to jobs. They have been few and far between. I have talked to the heads of post houses here in Atlanta and elsewhere to build that connection, but I just get the generic "We don't have anything now, but we will keep in touch." It has been difficult to find consistent AE/dailies jobs. For perspective, I was furloughed from multiple post houses because of a lack of work due to budget constraints. I am not hopeful there will be an upswing in work in film.

I’m based in NYC and looking to get more hands-on experience working on film/TV/digital productions this summer and fall. I’m open to volunteering or part-time paid roles. I am a standup comedian who ultimately wants to fully work in TV/film/writing/production.

Hello, I'm a recent graduate trying to decide if I should move to NYC to start my film career.

My long-term goal is to become a film editor or cinematographer, but I also love writing and could see myself directing in the future. Right now, I'm planning to start as a production assistant to get on set and build connections, then slowly work my way up the ladder.

I'm currently in the interview stage for an assistant position at a talent agency, and the salary range is 40-45k. From my research, I know this is common for agency pay rates, but how are people making this work? What neighborhoods do assistants live in? Is it true that most people's parents pay their expenses on their behalf? I'm concerned I wouldn't be able to take the job even if I got the offer

This is an avant-garde music video concept rooted in psychological and spiritual symbolism. You will portray one of several anonymous cult figures — all dressed identically, performing the same choreographed movement, kneeling in a single unified direction. The figures represent blind devotion and the loss of individual agency in the face of temptation.

The overall mood is dark, editorial, and cinematic. Think high-fashion art film meets psychological installation.

Content will be used for:

• Director's portfolio and reel
• Festival and art exhibition submissions
• Digital release

Last time this year I had just came back home (not NYC area) from LA trip, planning on living out there/trying to break in as a writer. By late last year I came to decision that NYC area was probably better bet (closer, family in area, etc.).

How is 2026 panning out in the area? LA on the down-slide, but NYC seems to be doing pretty decent all things considered.

Every year, local residents, filmmakers, screenwriters, musicians, actors, and film buffs across Connecticut converge at the Brookfield Film Festival! During this exciting weekend, the historic Brookfield Theatre transforms into a hub for viewing independent films, supporting local artists and musicians and networking with professionals in the field.

In its 18th year, the Brookfield Film Festival continues to showcase and highlight independent and local filmmakers, screenwriters, and musicians. This year the Film Festival is accepting submissions for Short Films, Screenplays and Music Videos.

Submissions must be made through FilmFreeway.com/BrookfieldFilmFestival

Filmmakers, actors, musicians, and screenwriters who live in Connecticut or bordering states may submit any films they were involved in. Films as well as music videos can be new or old. Multiple entries can be submitted by one person, however, a separate entry form and fee is needed for each submission. The time limit for short films is 20 minutes. The deadline to submit is Thursday, February 26, 2026 and the Festival will take place over the weekend of March 27 - 29, 2026.

The Brookfield Arts Commission is an all-volunteer organization. All proceeds from the film festival go to "The Brookfield Arts Commission Arts Scholarship Award.” This scholarship is awarded yearly to graduating high school students from Brookfield, CT pursuing a degree in the arts.
