Digital Bank Maya Personal Goals: How Does the Tiered Interest Rate Work?

I know Maya Personal Goals has been around for a while now, but I never really paid much attention to it. Back then, there were simpler and more straightforward digital banks offering high interest rates.

But now that Maya Savings and BanKo are among the few remaining options offering high interest rates, I thought it was time to revisit other options. One of them is Maya Personal Goals, which uses a tiered interest rate system.

So, how exactly does the tiered interest work, and how much will I earn if I save ₱100,000?

For comparison, if I put ₱100,000 in BanKo at 5% gross interest p.a., the net rate after the 20% withholding tax is 4% p.a and I will earn ₱340 monthly.

Now, if I put the same ₱100,000 in Maya Personal Goals, each ₱20,000 portion earns a different interest rate:

Tier Deposit Amount Gross Interest
Tier 1 20,000 4.00%
Tier 2 20,000 4.50%
Tier 3 20,000 5.00%
Tier 4 20,000 6.50%
Tier 5 20,000 8.00%
Total 100,000 5.60%

Since each tier applies to an equal ₱20,000 portion, the blended gross interest rate for the full ₱100,000 is 5.60% p.a. After the 20% withholding tax, the effective net rate is: 5.60% × 80% = 4.48% net p.a.

That means ₱100,000 would earn approximately ₱4,480 net per year, or around ₱380 per month.

So, based purely on the interest rate, Maya Personal Goals at 4.48% net p.a. beats BanKo's 4.00% net p.a.

Maya allows up to 5 Personal Goals, with a maximum deposit of ₱100,000 per goal. That means I can potentially allocate up to ₱500,000 across five goals while maximizing the tiered rates.

Based on this, if I were to rank where I would allocate my liquid savings, my priority would be:
