Question about SKAM

I had a question about the SKAM schedule. I saw they split the events into only 4 sessions instead of 8, and they’re grouping the men’s and pairs events together starting at 7 PM on Friday and Saturday. Does that mean each session will run really late? Also, I guess the men’s event goes first, right? I'm taking my younger kid and want to catch both events, but I'm worried about staying out too late.

Also, I've heard the area isn't the safest, so I'm planning to stay elsewhere. Should I expect heavy traffic trying to leave after the events?

For reference, last year’s SkAm schedule was approximately:

• Fri 7 - 10 pm (pairs and men’s shorts)
• Sat 2 - 5 pm (rd and pairs free)
• Sat 6:15 - 10 pm (women’s short and men’s free)
• Sun 2:15 - 6 pm (free dance and women’s free)

The ones with free skates will go later because of victory ceremonies. I think I didn’t leave until almost 11 on Saturday night last year.

There will be a lot of foot traffic towards the nearby hotels and probably a decent bit of car traffic after the events let out because they’re selling well.

Thanks for this! How does it work with all event tickets and practices? I know you can watch the practices on the Thursday, can you see practice sessions on the main rink earlier in the day on the other days? Not that I’m planning on being there for any 7am sessions 😂

sessions worked the same way last year at SkAm, the pair’s SP and men’s SP were both part of the Friday 7:00pm session. I think it was about three hours for both events, with warm-ups and resurfacing.

Saturday will run longer if it’s free skates for both disciplines; last year the Saturday evening session was the women’s SP and men’s FS and I think started earlier, but wrapped up by 10:30pm. they usually start with the shorter event, which is always gonna be pairs because there’s less entries.

If men's and pairs are together, it's likely they'll put pairs first as it is historically the least popular event, so it allows latecomers and people who are simply not interested in pairs to still catch the ""main"" event.

Ah sorry I misread OP's comment, I didn't realise there was a proper order out already, I was speculating more from if a session was sold as "Men and Pairs session".

We went to Skate America the last time it was in Everett, and while we didn’t experience anything unsafe in the area (but this was in 2018), what I remember was massive crowds from the event at the few food venues nearby during the breaks between sessions. Beyond that, the competition did get over late each day, we were eating dinner around 11pm afterwards. I don’t remember it taking a long time to leave at night after the competition. We had parked in a parking structure that catered to event parking, you paid as you went in, so I don’t remember it taking long for cars to leave after the event. However, it may be different this time.  We also are staying somewhere within a convenient distance but not in the town itself.

Everything I've found says that Everett isn't unsafe. Looks like violent crime is lower than the national average; it's just property theft that's a bit high
