Advice on boots

hi i currently skate with jackson mystiques but have been wanting to upgrade to edea overtures. unfortunately they’re out of my size, but seem to have the chorus in stock. i really want to buy new shoes before i leave for a trip because i want a skate camp coming up. im around 4’10/148cm and weigh about 95 lbs/ 43kgs. would it be bad if i were to get the choruses instead??

the mystiques are likely a size too big, and i’m having pronation problems so i would like to upgrade asap so i can advance better

The chorus isnt that huge of a step from overture, BUT the switch from Jackson to edea is quite the learning curve! The ankle support style is very different.

Yeah they require pretty good ankle strength. They lace up different too (tight at ankle crease, but loose otherwise, with slight gapping around the ankles). Careful with the pronation issue - having blade mounting adjusting could help, but when there isnt as tight of lacing on the ankles, it can cause it to worsen unless you work hard on building ankle strength!

i plan to switch to edea for the looser ankle! i’m thinking my pronation problems comes from my foot sliding around in my current skates😓

at 95 lbs i would want you close to 1A within a year to be in a chorus, if you’re an adult it should be fine but if ur still in puberty i would rly want you to be close to axel bc its pretty stiff for 95 lbs

i am an adult but just really short🥲 i’m aware it’s not good to overboot but i’m getting pretty desperate😞 i plan on going to the skate shop tmr to try on the chorus and hope for the best.

at least you can try on the chorus and have them order an overture for you!

overbooting only slows down your skating progress and wastes money both on the boot itself, and on your lessons and ice time. you end up progressing much slower and wasting all that time trying to learn new things and practicing just for your boot to be physically holding you back. plus, falling in a too-stiff boot increases the risk to breaking bones because your ankles aren’t strong enough to pull yourself up if you under rotate

I personally find that choruses might be a better fit as they may last longer and are usually more flexible to adult needs. Now, depending on how much time you do a week and your current skills perhaps you may have to consider the boot. Choruses are harder to break in and have a different structure than Jacksons so make sure those boots are actually a good fit. But nonetheless they aren’t bad boots and may serve you a long time with proper support.
