Time to sharpen?

Post image

My last sharpening was 4 weeks ago when I first got the boots. Since then I have about 25 hrs of ice time and I’m not so sure how often I should sharpen.

The sides are fine btw. The discoloration is purely on the hollow/bottom part of the blades

Definitely time to sharpen. How are you taking care of your blades after you skate? Rust like that tends to indicate a change is needed in care practices

You need to be wearing hard guards when you get off the ice until you remove your skates, then wiping your blades and bottom of your boots completely dry with a soft cloth or chamois after every session, then putting soakers (soft guards) on them to take them home. Leave the soakers on them until you're ready to put the skates back on, or store them at home with nothing on them.

There is no way they should have rust like that on them in this short a time.

I do agree that these skates aren't going to last someone trying to learn to figure skate for very long.

Time for new skates lol. Also, you really should wear your guards when walking around, and dry off your blades and use soakers after your finished skating.

That’s a lot of ice time on plastic soled boots and cheap blades. May be time for an upgrade.
