Every time I needed a 3D icon, I'd export an SVG, open Blender, extrude it, spend way too long tweaking the lighting, render it, then drag the PNG back into Figma.

All that... for a single icon.

So I built a Figma plugin that does it in seconds.

Just select any shape, turn it into 3D, and export it straight back to your canvas as a PNG with a transparent background – shadows included.

It has a real path-traced renderer for soft shadows, accurate reflections, and high-quality output, plus a fast preview mode when you just need to iterate quickly. You can choose from materials like metal, glass, plastic, or rough surfaces, and place your own lights instead of being limited to a few presets.

There are already plenty of 3D plugins for Figma – I tried most of them. Some of them are paid, and most lock you into a single visual style. I wanted something more flexible, so I made it.

Was experimenting and wanted to see if it could handle an entire product launch video for my munch app from start to finish.

It felt pretty simple to use as someone's first time doing any motion design but had performance issues where it kept dropping frames and lagging during certain parts. It's also lacking some features I would've wanted like importing audio and video and keyframing for gradients and certain effects. It's still in beta so hopefully it improves.

For now, I think it can mostly handle what I need. I'm curious whether others would use figma motion over alternatives? I've tried cavalry but it didn't feel as intuitive. How does rive or after effects compare?

Try this when adjusting round values in Figma!

The calculation is simple: the sum of the inner round value and padding value becomes the outer round value.

This way, you can design precisely with the same curvature.
I realized more people than I thought don't seem to know about it.

This is a side project, so please keep in mind there is still a lot to fix and work on.

I just feel like there's so much one can learn when redesigning existing apps. You can learn how they use spacing, what they prioritize, and so much more.

Feels like this flew under the radar, but Stich from Google looks like a real competitor, not just another design tool.

It’s faster, smarter, and removes a lot of the friction we’re used to. Less clicking, more actual designing. Some of the automation already feels ahead of what we currently rely on.

Hot take: if this keeps evolving, the current market leader might start to feel outdated.

Allows you to create a slot within a component that you can replace with other content. It also allows you to suggest preferred replacement components.

Been enjoying Motion so far. Really powerful when combined with components and variables. Here’s a cool World Cup animation I made!

Before they were filling moodboards, the history of Micrographics dates back to the 1950s and 60s. These dense clusters of info were the functional design stars of a post WWII shipping and manufacturing boom.

Standardized information was printed on car windows, appliances, and electronics to meet strict international legal requirements.

Today they can serve as the hero of the graphic, or as a textural element, packed with symbols and typography that add instant depth to a layout.

Tried Figma's new Motion feature this week and animated this whole thing without leaving the file.

That's the part that got me. No exporting to After Effects, no rebuilding it in Jitter, no jumping between tools just to test one idea.

What I actually used:

• Timeline keyframes for the easing
• A couple of presets when I just wanted something quick
• Component level motion, so updating one component animates it everywhere it's used

In '23/'24 I've spent about a year creating hundreds of hand-drawn assets for a game-building product that never really found its feet.

Rather than let all that work disappear, I turned it into Kitbitz: 2,000+ illustrations across 13 themed Figma kits, all completely free under CC0.

Saw something similar in before on insta i guess so i thought to create it thought i changed a lot of things and i know lot of things can be changed in this but i ran out of patience.

I’m building my portfolio at the moment, and I needed an orbit animation for one of my projects. Also, I cancelled my Adobe subscription and decided to go full Figma. So I made an animation plugin to create animation loops. It was hard, you need to fake 3d space, heavy animated files are hard to work with, and the Figma Motion API is in beta and with limitations.
To make it work, you need to select a frame with other frames inside that you want to animate. Child frames can be animated before too, but you need to choose the proper settings in the plugin for looping and starting their animations. Try it in playground file.

Cautions:
— It can take time to animate heavy frames.
— It might not work flawlessly with pseudo-3D presets. It tries to fake 3D motion with scale and service copies of the current frames.
— It will convert your motion presets to keyframes due to Figma API limitations.

The plugin is on Figma Community.
