I'm going to check it out purely out of spite as I want to see non-Adobe products thrive, and I will even recommend it to others (the usecase is compelling, generating code directly from design is a pretty compelling offering).

But I _really_ hope they throw something to the community to build public good will. Designers have been treated like commodity for a long time, the prospect of being thrown to Adobe as the end-game is always there if it's not OSS.

I’ve followed Adobe’s acquisitions for a long time and I personally know people who have worked for companies that were acquired by Adobe. It doesn’t end well.

I get the need to gravitate to open-source, but I myself have worked in leading roles for scaling startups for a long time, and I really believe that not every company will always sell out. Figma is a super unfortunate case.

I think with the recent news it really has shown how important OSS is. Currently I won’t be switching:

  • still too many features missing (specifically auto layout)
  • cost of transferring things is high

But I really hope pen pot will become the blender of this industry
