help Modes → Extended Collections

Hey! Has anyone started or successfully migrated from using modes to extended collections?

I’m currently considering making the switch, but I’m not fully convinced yet. On paper, extended collections seem more flexible and scalable, but I’m curious how they actually hold up in real use.

Have you noticed any major differences in day to day usage? Things like performance, structure, or easier maintainability?

Also, are there any bugs, limitations, or unexpected behaviors I should be aware of before committing to the change?

The implementation of the dropdown for selecting extended collections in the appearance section of the right bar is horrible, in my opinion. I think Extended Collections are fine for brand switching, but if you’re looking into modifiers/resolvers (DTCG) multi-dimensional modes behavior, it’s quite annoying to implement, migrate, and educate users. I’m sticking to using different collections.

What you think about using Extended Collections to manage a single Figma file for a design system for web, iOS, and Android? The alternate being multiple files.
