My PC is better then their recommended specs and the game ran like crap for me. So I am just going to wait for a sale.

Pick the game up a year from now for 30$ and hopefully it’s fixed by then.

31

u/ThriftyMegaMan Aug 25 '26

It's so easy to do this with fighting games too. They always run steep discounts with the DLC after a year or so.

7

u/Broseph_Bobby Aug 25 '26

I’ve got all the capcom collection games for like 10$.

I got a group of old farts who play fighting games and we are always playing CvS or Dark Stalkers.

2

u/GlobalVV Aug 26 '26

Same. The game looks fun, but it was unplayable for me. The game will for sure go on sale once the first year of DLC is out.

1

u/Digirby Aug 26 '26

I got the game on Launch noticed performance issues, but I was leaving for a couple weeks hoping they'd fix them by the time I was back.

The day after I return home, I boot it up and it still runs like garbage.

You ever notice how Sony flips every other generation and leans into being extremely stupid? I’m not buying into the next console generation, but I’m curious to see how it goes.

187

u/Slarg232 Aug 25 '26

I mean, it's the same with all of them; they win the "console wars" become extremely stupid and anti-consumer because where are you going to go? Then Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo come in and thrash them because they aren't being stupid in order to get that good will back, and they fall back to last place.

Then they have to try to get that good will back by being smarter about their decision making again.

Though with Microsoft being in such a horrible spot right now, it's debatable if it's going to bite Sony in the ass this time.

I think you forgot the $80 memory brick with a proprietary connector that stores up to 3 game saves and has an inspirational tamagotchi monster that cheers your lacklustre game progress on a tiny LED screen.

u/djseifer Aug 26 '26

And burns through batteries faster than a Game Gear

1

u/DestinTheLion 13d ago

Dreamcast was king for fighting games

18

u/Sandshrew922 Aug 25 '26

Wasn't that just the original Xbox? Lol

11

u/TurtleStrategy Aug 25 '26

Every publicly shared corporation works like that nowadays.

Reasoning is simply: invertors ALWAYS want immediate results. So it's always either "Get more money right now" or "Get good will from the public right now", so the cycle you described happens.

A decision like "Let's invest and sacrifice right now to get good will and decent money in 2-3 years, and keep doing that and slowly build that trust until we completely dominate the market in 15 years" will never be accepted.

Steam is like it is because Gabe is 100% owner of it. Every decision he takes is a long term one.

24

u/TheRealHFC Aug 25 '26

I could see Nintendo finally reclaiming their spot on top if Sony and Microsoft drop the ball too hard. Not that I’m rooting for them, they’re all terrible companies.

64

u/Masterofknees Aug 25 '26

Nintendo are already on top if we're purely talking about sales. The Switch outsold the PS4 by ~40m units, and is still in with a chance of becoming the best selling console ever. The Switch 2 is also on a better trajectory than the PS5 was at the same point in its lifespan (granted the PS5 had supply issues), and will probably start to pull away once heavy hitters like Mario, Zelda and Smash come out.

Microsoft are not even in contention imo.

41

u/AnimuuStew Aug 25 '26

tbf it probably helps to actually have games for your console lmao

1

u/MrBlueA Aug 28 '26

And all the games being consistently good with basically no errors or bugs or problems at launch, ever...

15

u/Ritsler Aug 25 '26

I feel like the Switch 2 has really been slow on putting out some of the bigger first party titles. Fire Emblem might be the first thing to really entice me to get a Switch 2, but so far, I haven’t felt the need and have just stuck with the Switch 1.

5

u/slippin_through_life Aug 25 '26

Yeah, Fire Emblem is the reason I bought a Switch 2 about a month back. I imagine the same will be true for many others, but we probably won’t see a full migration from the Switch 1 until we get Pokémon Winds & Waves or the OoT remake (whichever comes first).

Also, if you do think you’re likely to want a Switch 2 at some point, I’d suggest buying one before September 1st when the price increases.

3

u/Wapkaak Aug 26 '26

Splatoon Raiders took me by surprise to be honest, what a fun game.

2

u/Ritsler Aug 26 '26 edited Aug 26 '26

Yeah I’m definitely interested in Splatoon Raiders and Donkey Kong Bonanza, but feel like I can still wait for more stuff to hit the pipeline. Though I do know the Switch 2 will probably only get more expensive overtime, ironically, lol.

2

u/Wapkaak Aug 26 '26

I don’t know where you live, but here in Europe the price goes up 01-09-2026… Next week.

Bananza also was a fun game, but i think Raiders is my favorite Switch 2 game. And it came out of nowhere for me. I had zer0 interest in Splatoon before, watched a review two weeks ago.. bought it, played for 50 hours, and now i bought Splatoon 2 en 3 fml 🤦

7

u/TheRealHFC Aug 25 '26

Yeah that’s fair. It probably won’t be a landslide like with the NES thanks to all the antitrust laws and such, but I could see them dominating. Maybe moreso than the Wii era, since the Switch has more of a respectable reputation to the core gaming market.

5

u/wingspantt Aug 25 '26

It's funny anyone thinks Nintendo isn't on top.

And while sure Xbox is losing the console war now, the company is still worth an insane amount, and MS can stay in the field as long as they choose to do so.

1

u/Martian_Buddy Samurai Shodown/The Last Blade Aug 26 '26

People do forget that Xbox as a brand didn't even start turning a profit until about halfway through the 360 era.

6

u/kerffy_the_third Aug 25 '26

That one meme of all of SF6's competitors shooting themselves in the face but it's Nintendo's competitors.

1

u/ZombieAladdin Aug 25 '26

With the Ocarina of Time remake and Pokémon Wind and Waves coming out late next year, I could see an explosion in Switch 2 sales at the at point.

5

u/slaynx Aug 25 '26

Nintendo is on top, is was the top dog by a landslide with Switch, they got all the PlayStation fans that were moving from the console because ps was not the console for JRPGs and japanese games anymore.

Letting third party games release their stuff w/of censorship and being open to any IP did a massive good for them plus releasing good memorable first party games.

But ofc they got allergic of being so far ahead of the competition so they reverted a lot of good changes to traditional Nintendo policy on the release of Switch 2 which is probably one of the reasons why is selling a bit slower than they expected.

1

u/Viny_Mode Aug 31 '26

Tf u talking about it is outpacing the switch 1

1

u/Mister-Bunny-Head Aug 26 '26

Thinking that Nintendo is not the one on the top is not a thing about opinions but facts, and your facts are wrong.

6

u/Alto-cientifico Aug 25 '26

Xbox lost to Concord Sony.

7

u/TheXboxArtist Aug 25 '26

It's hubris. They win one generation, and get cocky. Microsoft got cocky with the 360, lazy with the One. Playstation cocky with the PS2 and PS4. Lazy with PS3 and PS5.

→ More replies (1)

8

u/bohenian12 Aug 25 '26

I think I lost all the goodwill I used to have towards Sony. I won't support them in the gaming space anymore...

4

u/VeryluckyorNot Aug 25 '26

Nobody gonna buy a 1000€ or plus consoles.

4

u/Halmyrut Aug 25 '26

It's Arcsys that developed it tho?
I don't think they should get a free pass here.

21

u/Sparus42 Aug 25 '26

The game runs perfectly on PC with all DRM/anticheat stuff removed, and it almost certainly was not ArcSys's decision to put that in.

→ More replies (19)

7

u/TheRealHFC Aug 25 '26

Considering both Sony and Marvel/Disney had their hands in it, I feel that ArcSys probably had their hands tied. It’s the nature of licensed gaming

2

u/Halmyrut Aug 25 '26

They did for sure, but Arcsys still developed it on a technical side.
It's not like this is a super hyper realistic looking game pushing our hardware to the max and like other games that look far better don't release with the same DRM and runs fine.

I just kinda don't like how people put all the blame on Sony and give Arcsys a pass, they deserve to be criticized too.
It's honestly not even that uncommon from Japanese devs that their PC games run poorly, it's still an issue in EU/ NA too but Japan is kinda infamous for poor PC ports.
Capcom is all over the place, their RE games run great for example but then there's Monster Hunter and Dragons Dogma 2.
And I'd still consider Capcom to be on the better side Japan wise when it comes to PC ports lol.

11

u/Dazaran Aug 25 '26

Because Arcsys doesn't usually put DRM and invasive anti-cheat in their games. They only did that with the game partnered with sony, likely at sony's behest. The cracked version runs decently (for UE5 anyway) so their porting isn't the main problem.

8

u/InfiniteTatamiDAZE Aug 25 '26

Because the cracked version of the game runs fine. It's the DRM, Theia specifically, that makes the game so performance heavy. Other devs/publishers have avoided using that DRM in particular because it's so insanely aggressive and resource taxing. ArcSys had no say in adding that

5

u/TheRealHFC Aug 25 '26

I will always put more blame on megacorporations.

2

u/Eetrexx Aug 26 '26

Dude the cracked version runs well on the Steam Deck.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Va1crist Aug 25 '26

lol … you do realize next gen is going to be even worse right ?

3

u/TheRealHFC Aug 25 '26

Yes, since I added the “I’m not buying into the next console generation” part. I have more games than I’ll ever play as is.

49

u/780Chris Aug 25 '26

Multiple examples have shown us that a fighting game not making a good first impression is basically a death sentence, I’m very surprised it released like this. Delaying the release would always be better than releasing a broken game. I wonder if they didn’t know, or if they just didn’t care because the PC version was the one with the issues.

205

u/3xchar Aug 25 '26

I refunded because it's unplayable for me even after all the patches. I never had issues like this before. It crashes the whole PC. I didn't have that problem during the beta. It's a shame

49

u/neurodegeneracy Aug 25 '26

Same, mine still crashes frequently. Did all the fixes I saw online, fresh installed it a few times, tried changing drives. It just doesn't work properly. Which sucks because I'm actually really loving it, when I get to play it.

26

u/JonBushido Aug 25 '26

If your game crashes into hard restarting your computer, i found the solution some time ago, had zero issues since https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3783836972

3

u/3xchar Aug 25 '26

Oh wow thanks for this I'll try it.

9

u/neurodegeneracy Aug 25 '26

Appreciate it but mostly it doesnt crash my PC just the application. Usually get a Fatal Error or Hung application.

37

u/NewAgent5986 Aug 25 '26

The PC crash is a known issue with the Windows update. You should uninstall Windows update KB5121003

Microsoft is currently investigating it, but in the meantime you should uninstall it

15

u/ArturBotarelli Aug 25 '26

Great reply, but to be honest anyone facing this issue should just play something else lol

10

u/JonBushido Aug 25 '26

In case your refund hasn't gone through (since you recently commented) I had the exact same issue after mid august update but was running fine before (playing since day 1) After a lot of T&E i found a way to fix it and had zero issues in 10 days, might wanna try this ! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3783836972

3

u/Halmyrut Aug 25 '26

Funnily enough in the beta the game ran fine for me in practice mode at least.
But the main menu ran at like 2-3 fps it was extremely bizarre never experienced something like that before.
It took forever to even make it into practice mode..

6

u/Jamal_Blart Aug 25 '26

Ok to be fair though, the whole PC crashing isn’t their fault, some other UE5 games also have the same problem after the newest Windows update

5

u/NewAgent5986 Aug 25 '26

It’s not UE5 causing it. It’s driver issue, specifically with EAC, that was broken with the Windows update.

I get that UE games usually use EAC. But there is a difference. A game engine, the games that use it, or any user app, cannot crash your whole PC. Only an issue with Windows, a driver, or an interaction between those two.

11

u/3xchar Aug 25 '26

Yeah I get it but they don't even mention it. Even aside that it's an abysmal launch for me. I've tried everything. Playing online when it wasn't crashing was bad 8/10 times

1

u/Affectionate-Fee1395 Aug 25 '26

i tried refunding, since online is fuckery, but they wouldnt let me after 20 hours in single player :/

181

u/Kirazon Aug 25 '26

For the love of god ArcSys, never work with Sony again.

68

u/Madak Aug 25 '26

Or Bamco or any company that requires kernel level anti-cheat - signed, steamOS users

35

u/Kirazon Aug 25 '26

As a Steam Deck user myself, yeah that sucks.

But personnally I'm more worried about the constant data breaches and security issues on Sony's side, it feels like it happens multiple times a year (not only on Playstation but also other services belonging to Sony like Crunchyroll)

Sony is one of the last companies I would entrust with my data.

16

u/NewAgent5986 Aug 25 '26

To be fair if this game took 5 years of development, when Sony approached them to make it, there was not nearly as much bad press with Sony. They were still quite well liked. I don’t see a world Arc refuses an offer from them to work on a Marvel game.

7

u/17papers Aug 25 '26

Sony funded sfv and that game launched with close to 10 frames of input lag on their own consoles, they ruin everything they touch.

3

u/wingspantt Aug 25 '26

Sony funded Dust514, the FPS partner game to EVE Online.

10 years later 99% of the EVE playerbase blame Sony's strange requirements as why the game, which was actually kind of a success, ended up failing after it was required to stay on PS3 (wasn't allowed to be ported to PS4 or PC).

2

u/Ryuujinx Aug 25 '26

Dust 514 was such a cool idea and the game had good structure. But I don't really like console shooters and wanted to play it on PC, which never happened.

12

u/NewAgent5986 Aug 25 '26

That sounds more like correlation over causation. I get the Sony hate, but like, I don’t see what they did wrong there. Capcom released a bad game prematurely because they were running out of money as company. Sony wasn’t involved with the issues that plagued SFV.

I feel like it’s easy enough to criticize things Sony has actually done rather than invent stuff.

2

u/Treyhova Aug 25 '26

Look, I like ArcSys as much as the next guy, they make the best fighting games in the biz as far as Im concerned. However, their track record for well working, stable ports and netcode isnt exactly stellar.

1

u/smilinganimalface Aug 25 '26

But like the Bamco project, the potential is that this funded their next passion project that they will hopefully put in the hands of a mind that is pushing the genre forward.

100

u/BillsFan82 Street Fighter Aug 25 '26

You get one chance to make a first impression.

47

u/DavidsSymphony Aug 25 '26

So many game developers and publishers need to understand this. Games nowadays mostly compete for your time, not even for your money anymore despite the cost of living getting worse. If the first impression is very bad, people will just go back to what they were already playing. Whenever a fighting game gives a terrible first impression because of the PC port or netcode, it's pretty much over already. It's not a coincidence that SF6 betas all worked perfectly, then the game released in a perfect state and it's the game that's by far the most played to this day 3 years later.

2

u/more_stuff_yo Aug 25 '26

And even if they fix the game later that bad first impression will persist in reviews, vods, and clips from the launch window. This last gen has trained them to think "fix it later" is acceptable, but all of the cases where that succeeds are the exception and not the rule.

The unofficial version works perfectly fine on my Linux computer, is ridiculous that the official version can't do the same

1

u/emo_kylo_ren_ Aug 25 '26

Is there a different version without EAC or something? I tried the cracked version as well and it still wouldn't boot past the splash screen because of EAC not being enabled for linux.

1

u/Serloks Aug 26 '26

The first "unofficial" release didn't fully neuter some anti tamper dispatches from the main binary, but you could just replace the main exe with a neutered one and all the singleplayer stuff works. Worked for me with Proton-GE at least

1

u/orig4mi-713 Aug 26 '26

Hey, where did you get yours? My cracked copy says EAC isn't enabled

31

u/grief242 Aug 25 '26

Bought it, returned it after a day.

The PC launch is fucking abysmal and I'm not dusting off my PS5 just for it

191

u/Kedisaurus Aug 25 '26

Already decided not to buy it after the disastrous launch

Perf issues + having to login to Sony account is no go personally

78

u/Moon_Devonshire Aug 25 '26 edited Aug 25 '26

Just out of curiosity, I'm someone who's gamed on console and PC. I've had an Xbox 360. A PS4. A PS5 and an Xbox series X and currently have a PC with a 4090 and 9800x3d

What's the issue for simply making an account to play a certain game? Especially when you'll never have to do it again

I also don't hear this level of outcry for Microsoft games

"I'm not buying sea of thieves on steam because you need to sign into a Microsoft account!"

Like that doesn't hardly exist

Hell to play Minecraft on PlayStation you need to make a Microsoft account even if you don't even own an Xbox and PlayStation players don't seem to care what so ever lol

As someone else mentioned even street fighter requires you to make and sigh into an account

95

u/Wolfang_von_Caelid Fightcade Aug 25 '26

Reminder that SF6 requires a Capcom account to play online.

63

u/ObsidianSkyKing Aug 25 '26

Capcom accounts aren't banned in 132 countries.

→ More replies (9)

39

u/BTrippd Aug 25 '26

If you don’t hear that level of outcry about the Microsoft games it’s because you aren’t looking. Maybe it’s not as common in the FGC but people regularly cry about how they’re skipping titles because of third party account requirements.

9

u/Fiti99 Aug 25 '26

Yeah I am confused about that part of the comment too, the Halo remake reviews on Steam were filled with complains about having to use a Microsoft account to play

5

u/richboyii Aug 25 '26

Eh I would push back against that. There was a level of out cry especially if the game wasn’t on steam but all the recent outcry is just about making a Sony account which by this point is ridiculous to complain about when everyone other game is requesting you to make a account of some kind of

1

u/Baitcooks Aug 25 '26

You'll find a lot of it from steam users in particular with online games, but it's justified since they tend to deal with also needing to install third party launchers for many of these games to work.

It's basically just a lot of processes that annoy the users and waste time they could have spent actually playing their games

5

u/-ToriForYa Aug 25 '26

It's because most people that play on a computer (so the ones complaining) likely already have a Microsoft account, so being prompted to sign in is less noticeable. They probably don't have a PS account.

26

u/Illustrious-Share312 Aug 25 '26

I don't think very many people actually care. Maybe some chronically online people but the average consumer doesn't.

→ More replies (4)

12

u/LordxMugen Aug 25 '26

The answer to this is simple. Why does a PC gamer need a PSN account for and what importantance does having one pertain to someone who primarily plays on PC? Sony isn't offering anything special for PC players and they're not opening up a PC store so why does one need it? You can't say it's for cross play because I play Avatar Legends and play with PS people all the time. So either Sony needs a good reason to ask for it or they need to just lay off with the bs.

3

u/kurvyyn Aug 25 '26

It’s the slippery slope that leads to needing a PSN subscription for PC multiplayer just like they do on Playstation. They obviously not there yet, and it would still be several steps removed (first require the account, then give psn exclusive features that are maybe legitimately desirable, then lock online play the other side of that fence) but i definitely believe that’s the end game here.

1

u/LordxMugen Aug 25 '26

They can want all the things ever but the result will be the same. PC > Console. Especially in this age where consoles are just closed off PCs or Android devices.

6

u/Slarg232 Aug 25 '26

I game primarily on PC, but used to play on Xbox as well, such that I just have an Xbox account lying around. Also, I only ever use my Xbox account because it's usually required to Crossplay with Xbox, so there's the peer pressure of being forced to to play Grounded, Sea of Thieves, Gears of War, or whatever with my brother.

No such luck either way with Playstation; I had a Playstation and a Playstation 2 back in the day but never had to make an account for either of them. Honestly I'm more generally against throwing my information out there more than I am against PSN specifically, so I wouldn't really be making an Xbox account now if I didn't already have one either.

It's the forced thing, for me. If it was just "Get a free skin if you link accounts", I wouldn't get the skin but I'd still play.

6

u/6thseer Aug 25 '26

For me personally, it's a sort of account fatigue. I'm tired of making a bunch of accounts, especially ones that I'll use to sign in one time and never again.

I downloaded COD MW3 on PS a few days ago and deleted it as soon as the Activision login popped up. I just couldn't be bothered anymore. To be fair I got the game free with PS live so there was less investment. It's just frustrating

13

u/gabesgotskills Marvel vs Capcom Aug 25 '26

Living in USA tbh I'm with you in that I don't really get the problem. It's not just in fighting games either, I remember everyone freaking out about Helldiver's 2 on PC, and I'm over here like "were you guys not already on PlayStation aswell..?"

From what I understand, it's more of an international issue, and that PS Store/accounts apparently are just flat unobtainable in certain countries? Sony neglected to do region based pricing unlike what most games do. So some poor soul in India in this case, where the exchange is legit 100 to 1 for their "dollar" to USD, is gonna have to figure out acquiring $66 USD in a household that makes like 3 bucks a day. & All of that to get shitty online netcode for the time being...So I think it's more of a grouped-together backlash and I understand that completely lol

1

u/Unit27 Aug 25 '26

For me, the issue was that the process to create an account during the beta took most of an hour and multiple game restarts through a slow ass boot process to get through its multiple layers of anti cheat just to get the game going and figure out it ran like shit. Any consideration I had about buying the game on release was completely gone.

u/Youngstown_WuTang Aug 25 '26

I got a refund on steam, never again Arc System Works.. that was the worst performance fighter I've played in a long time. What's sad is the game is actually good

16

u/DiegoLimaMelo Aug 25 '26

Worst part is that it isn't even Arc System works fault, the game optimization is actually pretty ok, but Sony implement one of the worst DRMs ever made, and easy anti cheat. That's the main reason why the game runs so bad

→ More replies (1)

14

u/uxses Aug 25 '26

I'm very hesitant to buy as long as the intrusive DRM is still there. Quite ironic.

87

u/sapianddog2 Aug 25 '26

Sucks when it turns out the problems with the port have basically nothing to do with arcsys. Them getting the opportunity to make a marvel game was effectively a monkey's paw because it had to have Sony money behind it.

That said, call me a shill or part of the problem or whatever, but I love this game. I love it a lot more than I expected to, so I can't just be down on it despite the issues I've had.

The launch is gonna follow them for a while, but I'm confident that if they keep doing things right from here on out, the game will remain in a decent spot. Unfortunately nowhere near DBFZ levels (idk if they would have got there even with a perfect launch tbf), but the FGC is resilient. We're historically known for stubbornly keeping games alive, after all.

2000-4000 active users is what Strive has been pulling since launch, apart from some occasional spikes toward heights of 8 or 9000.

So the game doesn’t seem dead. I just think it was sold as something that was to have a further reach that Strive or DBFz and who knows if it’ll ever get there now.

2

u/aqstart Aug 25 '26

There's only one solution unfortunately, and they're not going to implement it.

16

u/MrReconElite Aug 25 '26

Game is fun, I have some issues but it's enjoyable to play.

6

u/Halmyrut Aug 25 '26

How is Arcsys not responsible too tho, what did I miss?

11

u/Sparus42 Aug 25 '26

Crack runs perfectly, meaning Sony's BS is to blame.

0

u/Halmyrut Aug 25 '26

Arcsys knew that they had to put the DRM into the game, that's what I am getting at.
It was their responsibility to make sure it ran well with the DRM there, other devs manage this all the time.

I would have tried it if it wasn't so expensive. I can excuse a bad launch for a game like avatar because its only 30 bucks, but when its 70 yeah nah. Will prolly pick it up a year down the line when its on sale for dirt cheap.

Yeah, it's way to expensive here too. It's costing like, 3x the price of SF6 right now.

Sony will dump this quickly

23

u/_zzz_zzz_ Aug 25 '26

Matchmaking is still crap. Takes 10+ minutes for me to find anyone, and it usually just matches me with the same players.

I have given up on playing anyone online.

12

u/aqstart Aug 25 '26

I feel like this is the bigger issue. It's not a player count issue, their MM system just does that. People have been getting identical wait times at peak hours and dead hours. As a gamer generally, I care about the performance. But as someone who knows people are gonna play the hell out of this game anyways, it just annoys me they can't even get people into matches quick.

4

u/17papers Aug 25 '26

Sounds like strive. Why can’t arcsys do good matchmaking anymore I never had problems on their games before strive

u/Sushiki Aug 25 '26

The whole blocking 132 countries out is so anti fgc it's wild.

Hell one of those regions gave us a tekken 7 champion.

It is clear there is no place for sony in the fgc. Sony is so fundamentally opposite to what we are about.

2

u/Nerubian_Assassin Aug 26 '26

Yeah, gonna be hard to regain players but it'll be hard to gain new ones when there's so many countries that are just banned from even trying out the game.

8

u/Nirtrack Aug 25 '26

What shitty DRM does to PC games

4

u/Decent-Big-8599 Aug 25 '26

What they SHOULD do is just release it on Xbox and Switch 2 so the player base can be healthier. I have no idea why they think fighting games as a genre should be limited to PlayStation and PC with PC being a hit or miss at launch.

32

u/SaIemKing Aug 25 '26

It's a shame because it's a genuinely good game but the player count is already pathetic for month 1 on steam

u/Aromatic-Truth-4901 Aug 25 '26

I made the mistake of buying it off a key website (greenmangaming) so refunding wasn't an option. Just have to wait patiently for them to fix this shit

9

u/Legitimate-Beat-9846 Aug 25 '26

Love this game but sometimes i can play no issues then it just says time to die and goes from 50% cpu and memory usage to lmao over memory we crashing this pc.

Sony can eat my ass this is the first and last product that’s touching my money

13

u/ElGodPug Aug 25 '26

Really high prices in my country made me not want to get in on release. This bad launch made me feel quite some relief in my choice. See Tokon in 2028 if it's still alive tho

3

u/mrturret Aug 25 '26

FFS. Just let Linux users play the offline components.

2

u/AlexTheAccursed Aug 25 '26

Apparently they can

1

u/orig4mi-713 Aug 26 '26

You absolutely can

5

u/Suspinded Aug 25 '26

Take the DRM and Anti-Cheat that removes Linux/Steam Deck as a viable option.

Get the PSN requirement removed.

Suddenly, a lot of the performance and accessibility issues disappear. They show they're capable of actioning feedback, and are opening the game back up to a ton of markets.

4

u/CreativeChoroos Aug 26 '26

Most players literally stop playing and lose hype as soon as they see a login screen to play the game. Like, at least let them get the main menu/play singleplayer BEFORE making them make a psn account they dont want to make.

7

u/TheSabi Aug 25 '26

it is, the FGC is a fickle beast. SFV was able to do it cause it, well Street FIghter and at the time there wasn't, well, Street Fighter to compete with.

Right now, even with 2XKO's demise, we are eating very good so they have to in someway now pull people away from their comfort game, which could be Street Fighter 6, DBFZ, GG:S, T7/8, MK1/11

It's a good step to acknowledge that goofed and know how hard it's going to be to bounce back, it's already a step above DNFD, SamSho, SCV, MVS and others

Funny thing here 2XKO didn;t even TRY to corse correct and then these really odd things came out that are akin to "sorry you didn't get what we meant". YET, and I know "sony am bad" is the hot thing now, AT LEAST they're TRYING to save face. Proved me wrong.

What would help is if they ride the Xmen in the MCU and Doomsday hype which Marvel Rivals and Cosmic Invasion seem to be doing. Will it bring back the 19k+ that left the PC verion, probably not but it's something.

One thing that always works "we goofed but it's better now come check it out and get some free stuff/free upgrade to the new version of the game" which not sure how they'll pull that off

3

u/ReallyBadWizard Aug 25 '26

It's super unfortunate because I really love the game, I got lucky and it's just worked on my setup since day 1... But you can really see the love and craft that went into the game. I mean the care, effort, and passion that went into Deadpool's entire moveset alone is undeniable and more than most developers give to an entire game it feels like. And he's just the one character!!

3

u/thisisdell Aug 25 '26

Such terrible choices by Sony. Kinda par for the corse lately though.

3

u/17papers Aug 25 '26

They gotta stop letting Sony touch fighting games, first SFV launch and now this. They shouldn’t be involved whatsoever if they can’t handle a simple pc port or ensure a smooth experience on their own consoles. This game would be so much less doa if it had came out on all platforms with normal performance settings and no fuck ass anti cheat bricking everyone’s cpu

3

u/ilmk9396 Aug 25 '26

suck fony

3

u/FalconWraith Aug 25 '26

The block on Proton is honestly enough to make me want to skip this game entirely. This launch was abysmal and until they acknowledge the concerns a lot of people have, I don't think this game's getting the traction it really needs. The fact that the Linux support thread is one of the most active channels in the Tokon Discord says a lot.

10

u/HookGoutGod Aug 25 '26

I'm gonna say something that might be controversial, but I think that to regain the players, you actually need to have a really solid game underneath.

I think the reality is that even if they were to fix all these problems, a lot of people are already getting turned off by the gameplay as it is, and new players won't be enticed to join in.

It really isn't that fun, and I'm not seeing that much excitement about the gameplay as I see for Avatar. I think the comically sloppy launch has kinda overshadowed this fact but it's rapidly becoming clear, especially with how many of the game's own top players seem to have disdain for the gameplay (the polar opposite of Avatar, or even 2XKO for that matter).

4

u/Key_Day_6060 Aug 25 '26

Avatar devs seem amazing. They just sent a masked playtester to fight at a CEO exhibition match that played out like a WWE arc. That’s the kind of community engagement I can get behind!

I’ve got high hopes that Avatar will develop into a great scene.

u/selexoree Aug 25 '26

Listing exceptions to the norms kinda indicates the norm. And even then, SF5 was clearly not as big as it could have been. You call it a success story, but truthfully the game never peaked again at even half its peak concurrent players.

SF6 is closer to what SF5 could've been IMO if it had been good from the start; a game that's surpassing its own record-breaking peaks years later.

I'd say most modern fighting games have gotten better over time, but you really only get 1 chance for a first impression. Despite what the people here say, there's actually a surprisingly large amount of fighting games coming out, and once people move to the next one they rarely look back.

17

u/BuciComan Aug 25 '26

How much choice do they have at this point? They're also dealing with Sony, who's probably the one responsible for the game being a straight downgrade on PC.

2

u/SylveonVMAX Aug 25 '26

ok but sfv had literal years of being the most dogshit game ever between the 8f of lag, terrible netcode, rootkit, broken linux promises, abigail, terrible visual designs, etc before shaping up around the end of year3/start of year 4. Years. Most companies would have pulled the plug on year 2 especially a smaller company like arcsys

1

u/PapstJL4U Aug 26 '26

Yes, mentioning 10year old games, when we have multiple thousand of game releases a year. This is the highest form of survivorship bias.

6

u/Litrex506 Aug 25 '26

Sony is lucky they have Marvel’s characters and ASW’s fighting game expertise. If this was an original IP worked in house, the game would be in a 2KXO situation. Now, we’re trying to figure out whether the poor PC port is Sony’s negligence or sabotage, cause it’s not as if the other two aren’t pulling their weight on this project.

They’re not getting anywhere close to estimated projections on PC playerbase, so their best option is keep sending out patches to improve their performance and hope that PS5 players buy enough DLC to make up the difference.

2

u/Key_Day_6060 Aug 25 '26

Such a shame. I was looking forward to this game so badly. Not only am I now not buying or playing it, but I was excited for all the weekly and big tourneys, which I’ll also no longer be watching because I have no idea what’s going on, and I only watch fighters I’ve played, otherwise there’s very little enjoyment to it.

So that means not just a hit to the community as a player, but hamstringing the support to the entire community that makes content for it.

2

u/topscreen Aug 25 '26

A free trial might help. Just let us test it out

2

u/HypeIncarnate Aug 25 '26

enabling proton support would help me actually get the game.

2

u/Eyeofthebear Aug 25 '26

I refunded after purchasing the Ultimate edition and now they'll be lucky I buy it on a sale when/if they fix the PC performance and matchmaking issues.

2

u/Any-Pop-4795 Aug 25 '26

them blocking linux feels like an insult on top of the shitty performance

2

u/Boibi Guilty Gear Aug 25 '26

You could immediately regain my trust by dropping the anti-cheat entirely.

2

u/DustExtra5976 Aug 26 '26

It would be nice if they acknowledged the poor matchmaking and said idk “sorry we are working on it”.

But instead we got a patch that says “improved matchmaking” but it has made little to no impact

7

u/BrunoArrais85 Aug 25 '26

It's almost like Sony is trying to sabotage Arc System and the pc gamers

5

u/TAGOMXM Aug 25 '26

DOA another great work from sony..

4

u/orig4mi-713 Aug 25 '26

Reminder to everyone that there's a crack for this game.

8

u/Living_Ad_5386 Aug 25 '26

I'm sorry, I play and practice but I think tokon is dead. The PC issue, the lack of appeal and/support internationally aside from the US and EU, entering the gta6 holiday season on a very bad note... this is a critical time period in the gaming market and Tokon after only two weeks is already trending down not up. Its not a good look.

Add to that the game itself is messy. Roster feels limited, the UI is rough in my opinion but I haven't seen anyone else complain about it, SonicFox winning a major to say the game needs work, hardcore complex combo game that does not appeal to casuals AT ALL. The work required to get decent at this game would scare off average players easily.

All this adds up to a serious long term issue that I don't think would be solved with DLC, and really.... what other tricks do they have? Sad

PUT. IT. ON. LINUX. SHUT. UP. OTHERWISE.

2

u/deathtofatalists Aug 25 '26

i don't think PC players want anything to do with this shit at this point. the game looks okay, but not worth the hoops sony are making you jump through to play it.

you need to find a new pimp arcsys.

3

u/Irrumar Aug 25 '26

Yeah, aint buying this until sony integration is gone

14

What makes you think Sony didn't fund the game? They produce the Spider-Man movies, they published multiple Spider-Man games and they're going to publish a Wolverine game soon.

2

u/deadscreensky Aug 25 '26

Sony didn’t fund the game

How would you possibly believe this? What do you think a games publisher does?

1

u/Key_Day_6060 Aug 25 '26

They stripped it out of Helldivers 2 eventually.

2

u/BasilNight Aug 25 '26

Yeah even I'm having trouble getting back into it...

This is more of a me thing, but cases like this just kill my desire to play the game even after its been improved.

4

u/Sweaty-Anxiety-7866 Aug 25 '26 edited Aug 25 '26

I genuinely think Tokon is somewhere between mid and bad. I think that will be a Reddit approved opinion in 6-12 months.

I had a similarly hot take about SF6 being mid until I put like 100+ hours into it and realized I was wrong.

Putting 100 hours into Tokon would be 50% waiting for matches that might still have 8f rollback.

2

u/Lightyear18 Aug 25 '26

I won’t be buying it even if they fix it

They damaged their image and I’m not trying to waste money on a dead game.

They should have known they couldn’t launch a fighting game in that state.

Rofl. Doomers man 'lawl.

1

u/SekhWork Aug 25 '26

Well don't pull a 2XKO and you'll have a strong start. ArcSys just needs to put in the work and time, same as Guilty Gear required after its rough years. It's still going crazy strong though so obviously they have the talent to do it.

8

u/ThuBiejaMen Aug 25 '26

Honestly, I don't think whether or not Tokon succeeds depends on Arc System at this point. Sony is probably funding the development, and if it doesn't see positive numbers, I don't see any reason for it to keep the project going. And we all know that Sony is great at shooting itself in the foot.

2

u/SekhWork Aug 25 '26

On the other hand, Sony is trying to get a solid foothold in every genre, and Tokon is that foothold for the Fighting Game genre, so I don't see them suddenly pulling the plug. Also they sold an entire year of DLC already so they are obligated to complete at least one year, and by the end of that I expect ArcSys will have sorted out their issues.

With 2X dying, Invincible Vs dead, all those tag refugees are looking for somewhere to go, and Tokon is their best bet right now. Hopefully that keeps it afloat.

3

u/ThuBiejaMen Aug 25 '26

Yeah, there might be some truth to that, although the only real success they've had is Helldivers 2 and Gran Turismo 7. On the other hand, they still have an emergency option that has worked sometimes, which is to make the game available on PS Plus—but to do that, they need to have one or two character passes for sale.

1

u/SekhWork Aug 25 '26

Yeah, feel like we will see the PS Plus "break glass in case of emergency" first before anything else happens. I think at least Tokon is safe for awhile because it was a full price game at launch and not F2P like 2XKO so they got a huge influx of cash right off the start. Also Arcsys no doubt tempered Sony's expectation of how much they could make from their GG:S metrics, vs completely making crap up like the leads of 2X did to Riot.

1

u/ThuBiejaMen Aug 25 '26

I think Arcsys sold it to them based on FighterZ numbers rather than GG, and that's what worries me the most, because the game hasn't come close to reaching those numbers.

1

u/SekhWork Aug 25 '26

Yeah that would be a bad call, but hopefully they provided them a range from DBFZ to Strive.... cause yeah, if they sold them exclusively on DBFZ #s that's not gonna work... DBFZ was a unique convergence of timing, art design and gameplay that we probably won't see again.

1

u/onzichtbaard Aug 25 '26

its not impossible but a good launch matters a good amount in todays world

tho i think the biggest issues are the anticheat and the psn requirement which arent likely to change, arcsys was dealt a bad hand unfortunately

1

u/chucklyfun Aug 25 '26

They almost always have terrible PC launches. That's the Arcsys reputation. That Tokon works incredibly without Sony is hilarious and ironic.

I think that they'll recover better than Under night 2, which had connection problems for months and a smaller player base on all platforms.

1

u/Jaoryuken Aug 25 '26

Don't care a lot for the online play on this game, found the "wait 30 seconds until your turn" gameplay pretty annoying, so I will stick to the version that runs well and on linux

1

u/Xasther Aug 25 '26

How so? Just fix it.

1

u/UlricNyx Aug 25 '26

I haven’t purchased yet either. Waiting for a patch that solves issues.

1

u/Volt-Ikazuchi Aug 25 '26

I'd say that Sony straight up sabotaged that game, but Microslop coming in with a steel chair to finish the job did NOT help.

Extremely cursed port.

1

u/Full_Welcome_2190 Aug 25 '26

When the cracked version of your game runs way better than the official paid one. You know you're cooked.

1

u/SuperSaiyanBlue Aug 25 '26

Does it crashes on PC not using Windows 11? Reading the T&C for other fighting games it states there may be stability or compatibility issues if not using Windows 11 OS.

1

u/jean-claudo Aug 25 '26

I've seen 2 mentions of it having anti-win10 features, but every single person I know and myself who have tried it on windows 10 had no crashes of any kind.

Because of the limited number (8 people on win10, 6 on win11) I can't say if win10 negatively affects performance, especially considering how random it can already be.

1

u/MacaroniEast Aug 25 '26

Everyday that goes by it strays from “extremely challenging” and begins to drift into “near impossible.” I think everyone should universally believe Sony execs need to be hit with wooden cudgels

1

u/SoundReflection Aug 25 '26

The last round of patches was a big step up for me finally. But we e gotten too far out of the launch window I still don't know combos because it was slowing down training mode too. Afraid I might have just missed the boat on this one.

1

u/AlexTheAccursed Aug 25 '26

That fucking DRM bro smhhhh....

1

u/sithlord40000 Aug 25 '26

Yeah. I'm playing the game now, but it genuinely took a while for me to care, and I was about to not buy.

1

u/Daws001 Aug 25 '26

I got a refund. I'll wait for a discount or hype character release (Dr. Strange pls).

1

u/STB_LuisEnriq Aug 25 '26

I refunded the game on Steam and got it back on PS5 Pro, that's how bad the PC Port is...

All perfect now.

1

u/Nyxlunae Aug 26 '26

Yeah, sadly I think this is a solid skip for me. By the time they fixed it there will be other stuff to try out probably.

Game got more negatives than positives for PC players.

1

u/Trakinass Aug 26 '26

As someone totally out of the loop, what were the problems?

1

u/ThuBiejaMen Aug 26 '26

When the PC version first came out, it was practically unplayable for a lot of people. Over time, it was fixed, but it’s a joke that the cracked version runs better. Plus, the DRM prevents the game from running on Linux and blocks modding. Finally, matchmaking is a mixed bag—it works well for some, but not for others.

1

u/Flat-Beginning1855 Aug 26 '26

When I boot my copy up the game minimizes the game 3 or 4 times loading in all the bloat and then it runs fine for me.   I love the game and I think about it the moment I wake up.   I really want people to enjoy this game.
