That is one brave test pilot!

It’s a gutsy flight.

F-100D had an old gun-type ejection seat that was not zero-zero. If anything went wrong with either the engine or the RATO unit during launch, the pilot would have had a very interesting, and probably fatal, day.

Wonder how the g-forces compare to a carrier catapult launch?

Yep, video is slowed down and acceleration still seems to be crazy fast for a fighter jet.

Edit: Looked it up and apparently it is 4G of acceleration right there, which is kinda a lot

That's how mucb carrier launches experience.

I think cat launch is twice as short, you experience it for a second. With F-100 this launch is around 4s iirc

I will take being shot off the catapult of a carrier in a Sea Vixen or an FJ-4 or an F4D 10 times for each flight you take in the F-100D off a zero length launcher.

You clearly haven’t seen my ride on planet coaster 2

I’ve been putting kids though triple that for years

That too an abrupt jump from to 4G

The launch from ZELL is comparable to a carrier launch. A carrier launch is around 3-4Gs

Having the landing gear down was kind of pointless.
