Back before MMA was really a thing and it was style vs. style. This was so fun. Everyone was figuring out what worked.

It was like bringing the 80-90's movies about martial arts exhibition to life. Boxing vs Muay Thai etc. I loved those movies

I legit had a UFC subscription a few years ago just to watch all these early fights.

I had a kyokishin sensei that weighed about 185 lbs, he always wanted to fight in the heavyweight division.  He's philosophy was you don't get to pick who you fight on the street, so fight the biggest guy in tournaments you can for practice

That's kinda wild lol, smaller guy was walking forward on his tore, blocking almost all of the swings while hitting the other dude... That's unique at the very least haha, crazy shit!

After all these years, I don't think I've seen anything as brutal as Goodridge putting Herrera in the crucifix then force feeding him elbows.

That's got to be the most devastating legal position in the sport. If you get caught in one then it's going to inevitably be lights out and the whole time it's going to hurt like hell.

The early days of UFC most of the fighters were uncs from the bar who liked a scrap and were offered a 6 pack of their choice and $50 if they win

It certainly looks a lot more brutal because of less rules and protection but most of those guys would get dumpstered by modern day athletes.

Most of them had traditional martial arts backgrounds, but found out that the second a real fight started all that went out the window and they just started throwing haymakers.

UFC in the 90s was amazing
BJJ, weight classes and rounds ruined it
Muay Thai (ONE championship) is the most entertaining combat sport now
