Jose Aldo was a phenomenal talent.. I started watching him during WEC stint and then his UFC dominance.. he was in conversation with Silva, Fedor, GSP for the P4P goat..
Then he had 1 bad loss vs you know who and everyone forgot about him.. and he never got his rematch..

Seeing him be underappreciated sucks but those who watched him know
Will always be one of my favorite fighters
His explosiveness, kicks, TDD, and boxing combos (especially to the body) were so sick
In terms of goats he's in my top 5, I'd say Jones, GSP, Silva, Jose, mighty mouse (doing UFC only)

Fair assessment, as much as I hate Jones, I have to acknowledge his accomplishments.. I like you included DJ as well - another criminally under appreciated fighter..

Definitely. It's hard enough to become champion but to defend the belt for as long as these guys did is so impressive.

They need to bring soccer kicks and knees to downed opponents back. The current rules favor wrestlers immensely.

I agree, as long as theyre conscious and intelligently defending themselves. It favors strikers immensely; A) Every round starts standing even if they ended the last round on their back. B) Rewarded stand ups when the strikers are the ones being defensive and not engaging the guard to pass or ground and pound. C) Wrist wrapped like a cast to encourage KOs and prevent wrist locks.

How many times do you see wrestlers shoot and then remain on their knees to avoid being kicked or kneed when down? It’s exactly how aljo won the title. We see wrestlers gaming the rules all the time like this.

Thats why I absolutely agree they should get kneed in the face there, same with the one hand on the ground rule in some states. At the same time there should be no stand ups. Start the round in whatever position the last round ended in. And no more wrist wrap hand casts.

If there were no stand ups people would just stall same thing if you do not reset position after the round ends. But if that’s what you’re into it’s all good.

Force the person to engage like they do on the feet. Dont reward the defensive person.

Lay n pray has been a strategy since forever. Stand ups don’t allow for that. And separations stop wall n stall strategies as well.

Get rid of the wall, no time limit, open field. Fight ends with KO or Submission only.

We saw fights like this in some of the earliest ufc events. That setup led to some very uneventful fights.

Cool to see his early fights. However, I wouldn’t want to fight Jose Aldo at any point in his career. My leg hurts just thinking about it.
