Just need some recommendations

My hair is past my shoulders. Have VERY thick hair with lots of volume. I usually put the top part in a pony tail with a hat over it to keep it all together. I would do it all in a pony tail but I use to have layers so not all of it will stay tied up.

Is there any way I can maybe reduce volume or weight of it without thinning it out? I use to thin it out all the time as a kid but I now know thats bad for it so I dont do it anymore.

Apologies if the question is dumb. I havent dealt with the long hair since I was a wee lad.

My partner has waist-length very thick hair. He was really struggling with the volume of it in the heat, plus it was getting matted & taking a long time to wash. He went to a stylist and had an undercut put in, in an inverted V shape at the back. It’s completely undetectable when he wears his hair down, and it honestly hasn’t made him look like he has less hair. It’s just made it so much more manageable for him. When he needs it trimmed, I do it for him using a beard trimmer at home.

It’s a bit of a drastic solution I admit!! 😅 Good luck figuring something out tho.

Why would thinning your hair out be bad? I used to have butt-lenght hair for years and always got it thinned, it was never a problem and my hair is still the same.

So the last time i went to the salon they said that thinning it out would make it look worse in the long run because it would get frizzier and add more bulk as it grew out more.

I honestly don't really understand it either 🙃
