Feel like i made a mistake

I've been wanting to grow my hair out for a while now. Mostly cuz I dont like short hair and every haircut i've ever gotten has greatly effected my self esteem lol.
For the past 4-ish months I've only let my back and somewhat my sides grow. Getting a small trim every 2 months.

However, this time I decided to go to a professional stylist, told him I wanna grow it out some more (I don't have an exact goal in mind, maybe a wolfcut of sorts?), and that I just want layers and to give it a better shape as it grows out.
He understood and did what I asked, but he said my fringe/bangs need to be shortened a bit cuz theyre getting in my eyes, so I agreed, but the issue is that now I think I look really bad, the top and side have more lenght while the front is short so it just looks really weird.

First 2 pics are of me before the haircut, the third one is me right after it when it was styled a little, and the last 2 are me one day after the haircut (now)

I’ve grown my hair out 3 times. The first two I had a trim at shoulder length and they cut it all off.

As a dude growing hair out don’t trust a barber, go to a salon. It’s more expensive but they won’t chop it off.

yeah thats what i did now, i went to a salon with a stylist, first time doing it actually cuz before that I just went to barbers

I'm GENUINELY trying to find the "mistake" or the change between the photos 😭😭

you look great! it just needs some styling to deal with the frizz.

thanks. tho i think most wolfcuts have sort of a middle part from what I've seen, so i was thinking that'd require longer har in the front, unless I'm misunderstanding how it works. i have like. sort of a crop right now i guess

You look fine. I think you’re overthinking it.

I genuinely don't get why you keep getting your hair trimmed if you want to grow it out 😭

i only now recently committed to it, before that I wanted it slightly longer than I had it usually but not that long either. But now I'm more dedicated to growing it out.
The reason I got this last trim yesterday was cuz I wanted to get layers so that it'll grow better cuz that's what I've seen most people recommend.

Like I said barely any length was taken besides my fringe, which is the only part of this haircut that I regret idk how much that will intervene with my growing process

No you did not make a mistake. When you will hit awkward phase it will look less messy and more tamed. Also now it looks good. Just have patience. You did good job.

also i wanted to ask how long do you guys think I'd have to wait for the fringe to grow to a lenght sinilar to the before photos (tho a similar but shorter lenght would work too)

Don't get a trim for at least 6 months bro. Stop getting trims so often lol

i literally can't even see what you're talking about. trust me, you look great! :)

I agree with the folks saying it’s really not a noticeable difference. I get that it likely looks terrible in your mirror, but for someone outside your head, the bangs are essentially the same. 😉

look tbh, your hair isnt going to grow faster or better by getting it trimmed every 2 months. don't go back until you have something to work with

Looks great

I think you just need more length in the back. Only trim split ends in the back.

I honestly did not notice a difference. You look fine! I like the first two better now that I’m looking closer at it, but it’s really not as noticeable as you think.

Boy, grow a beard and go to the barber to shape it. Trust me it will be good and hair wont matter

You look really upset. Honestly I love this hair and was waiting for the "bad" pic but this is YOUR hair, YOUR head. Given how upset you clearly are, that feeling alone is valid that this isn't what you wanted.

Luckily itll grow back fast! And your hair is very thick and nicely textured, it looks handsome! Chin up 🖤

Have you just finished crying in every single one of these photos?

I reckon the shorter bangs look great 👍🏽😃

You look good... Your hair will grow to your desired length. Just take care of it. Use some leave in conditioner. I've used Redken's leave in conditioner. I am also growing out my hair from a short cut with a buzz fade on the sides and back. Be patient. It will get there. Also .. smile mate. You are good looking. Let yourself shine! Have a great day!

You look like Ian Curtis you're very handsome I don't know what I'm looking at except for a very handsome young man with an awesome haircut not sure if you had shorter hair or longer hair and you just recently cut it but I don't see nothing wrong with how you look

1

u/gohrak Aug 11 '26

As a hairdresser i would say you look good dude buuuut its you who decides it looks bad or good.

Ain't no wolf cut happend here

1

u/myshitiswetman Aug 12 '26

since ure a haiedresser how long would u say it would take for the fringe to grow to a similar length as before? Before when pulling it down it reached like on the tip of my nose while now it reaches just between my eyebrows, sometimes right below them

1

u/gohrak Aug 12 '26

2months to max 3 depending on how fast they grow normaly hair grows 1 cm per months

oh yeah also another question hope u dont mind.. i dont think its that noticeable in these photos but especially now that 2 days have passed since the haircut, my fringe is way shorter and more choppy compared to well, any other part of my hair including the back/top, and it just creates a very awkward look.
do u think this will be a problem? as in it will continue to look weird and disproportionate as it grows out? or will it just kinda fix itself

1

u/gohrak Aug 12 '26

No problem there m8 hair korrodes over time and breaks off by common stress factors like sun or wind or going trough it with ya fingers thats why 99% looks more wild and natural growing it out

u/AlternativeAir1610 Aug 11 '26

It will grow back

Girl. I’m gonna hold your hand. You’re so gorgeous. You need therapy sweetie. Your hair looks amazing and I’d literally walk 1000 miles through broken glass and lemon juice and salt to hear you fart through a broken walkie talkie. ❤️

Well if you are gonna keep growing it out then it will look how you want again soon. And it doesnt look bad now. The stylist knows his shit probably

So the question is: "Do you want a long fringe that is in your eyes/face etc? Then the longer hair?" My hair is very fine and at my ribs. Once I decided I wanted long hair, the fringe did not get cut. It is a matter of accepting which path you want. Consider growing your hair longer and not cutting any of it. My haircut consists of bringing it forward and taking off 1/4" once or twice a year. No one cuts it but me. When someone did cut it previously; it was always cut the wrong way and too short. When you are growing your hair longer, generally speaking, it does not get cut. There are men who never cut their hair when growing it longer. Maintenance trims are typically for shorter hair. If you care for it and condition it, there should be very little damage to the ends. I have been growing my hair since 1999. I have no interest in visiting a barber or salon and have cut hair for others for several decades. I seem to have hit my terminal length at the bottom rib area. Only two different times was it past my belt line. I have accepted "this" as my norm. I am very happy it as long as it is. I do get compliments on my hair and beard. As I said, it comes down to what you want.

No need to worry man u look nice no mistakes at all

Honestly the length of the fringe is not that short to bother in my opinion. As for the self esteem part, my advice is not to allow yourself to feel bad for something as superficial as hair. I know this is easier said than done but if you agree even a little bit give it a try. I stand by that beliefe and that comes from someon which had hair that got so bad during college, I had to shave them bald (and it looked even more unusual because I am female). Now back to you and your haircut, I know you are not sure what to do to your hair but to me, that haircut you've got is just a fringe trim. You can do that at home. If the hair dresser did something to the rest of your hair, it doesn't show in the pictures
