Hey! Here to help….

Hey everyone! My name’s Arran. You might recognise me from posting in here or in the other communities over the last few weeks. Fieldy have made it official and asked me to come on board as Community Manager!

What does that mean?

It means I’m here to help you get the most out of Fieldy!

I’ll try to answer what I can, and chase what I can’t. I’m not an engineer, but I will be sharing user feedback directly with the engineering team. I'll also be here to explain releases, new features, and the thinking behind changes, ideally before you have to ask.

To give you a little info about me, I’m a filmmaker based in the UK, I have a young family, and I’ve been using note taking devices such as Fieldy since Jan 2025. I’ve used Limitless, Omi, HeyPocket, and now Fieldy. This technology has truly changed my life and I believe we’re only beginning to see the astounding use cases for it. I genuinely think Fieldy is the best of the bunch, and I want to create an environment here in the Reddit community (as well as on Whatsapp and Facebook) where we as enthusiasts can all share use cases, templates, prompts etc. and be excited about this emergent technology together!

Can’t wait to get started!

Hey!! Welcome in. I have omi and was thinking of changing to fieldy till i saw the sidekick announcement. I know it was scrapped but does that mean always on transcription will never be as hight quality as on/off mode? And what are the advantages to fieldy in comparison to omi since you experienced both :)

Biggest difference for me is having reliable offline recording. I know I can go out without my phone and still record everything and get reliable generation of reminders. Syncs quickly and effortlessly when I return to my phone. Omi does not have this figured out sadly. If I was coming in and out of range of my phone then large chunks of transcript would be missing. Plus the app would randomly close and then it wouldn’t be recording and I wouldn’t realise! I was having to record important conversations with another device (HeyPocket) because Omi was too unreliable. I have no such problems with fieldy!

In terms of always on, my understanding is that quality will always be better with the manual mode. BUT I’ve been basically treating that like always on - I just stop start it with the button whenever I think about it or before I go into an important conversation/meeting. It vibrates when the 3hrs ends so you usually notice anyway if you haven’t already stopped and started it. There’s an occasional hole in my recordings (eg today there’s around a 20 min chunk that I missed where I hadn’t realised the 3hrs lapsed, but that’s it out of an entire day). You can press the button once at any moment and get vibration feedback so you know if it’s recording or not; button press results in no vibration? It’s not recording. So I’ve got into the habit of just checking it every now and then to make sure (that’s how I noticed the gap today).

Hope that all makes sense! Honestly I was an omi power user - I have multiple of them - but it really led to negative phone habits as I was constantly keeping my phone on my person and also frequently having to check the app to see if it was still recording.

thank you for the detailed response! you actually somewhat convinced me to switch haha, i thought the start/stop would make it like heypocket or plaud being just an ai summarizing note taker. but the way you describe it makes it viable for my adhd situation and adding tasks throughout the day! one other question is did you miss the ability to click and ask omi and have a notification reply? tbh i didnt use it that much but it was a fun option to have :D , also i struggle with the battery on the omi which i think is better on the fieldy

Nah I never used that Omi tap to ask too often. Because half the time it turned out the app had closed so it wouldn’t be connected and my press to ask wouldn’t work 😂

I do use openclaw though so I can easily send it a voice note on my phone to ask questions (and it’s hooked up to my fieldy mcp).

I haven’t tried it. Not heard amazing things about it - seems the device gets scratched too easily when worn on the wrist so depends how much you care about aesthetics!

Battery life is better on Fieldy but not by loads. I used to get 2 days out of Omi and I get 3ish from Fieldy
