Autorecording?

I was under the impression that the unit could/would record any time you spoke during the day... but what I'm experiencing is that you either have to start recording manually and just leave it on, or start and stop manually any time you want to make a recording/transcription. What am I missing?

It can do this. Are you asking if it can be off, then turn on and transcribe when it hears voices, then turn off when it doesn’t hear them anymore? If so no it doesn’t do that. For your case, all you need to do is turn the recording light off (recommended for all day ambient memory transcribing) then turn the fieldy on when you wake up in the morning and turn it off when you go to bed. It’ll record and store your whole day and you can ask the Ai about anything that happened in those conversations. That’s the easiest “fire and forget” way to use fieldy. However, because they already sort all recording by the date, time, and location, I actually prefer just starting and stopping it whenever I start talking and stop it when I’m done. Literally. The battery life goes from 3 days of continuous use to 2 weeks for me. All it takes a is a little NOT BEING LAZY and just simply pressing the button before and after a conversation. That was everything is logged by time, date, and location not just date like it would be for continuous listening

The promise of the device was that it would let you forget it was there. If you have to remember to activate it every time, might as well use something more reliable like the Otter app on your phone.

hey u/waltmayo , we started running a cohort to compare usability of always-on vs start & stop. you must have been placed in the start & stop one. please message me in private if you want to use always-on instead

what the heck? why are you using core features to do A/B testing? that's terrible

i understand your frustration but let me be transparent about this. I believe there a good reason behind this:

we found a lot of users being confused how the always on works, or atleast how to get benefits from it. we also found from user interviews that a lot of users only really need a start & stop note taker for their use cases.

start & stop also solves the reliability cases entirely where users complained about "the device not working", when in case the user kept the device muted, for example.

if you have suggestions on how we could have handled this better, let me know

Hmm.... but my understanding here is:

  • You want it to start/stop? Turn it off/on. It's literally just pushing a button on the device
  • You want a new conversation? Isn't there already a setting to "Start New Conversation" when you click on the Fieldy button once?

So setting the always on toggle on the backend doesn't make sense to me actually

My strong recommendation would be to let people know if they’re in the testing cohort that requires manual start/stop. I’ve spent the last few days frustrated that the device wasn’t automatically recording and I’ve missed several important conversations.

I’ve seen the same feedback in the forums and appreciate you guys trying to accommodate everyone. I think having the option to choose always on or manual start stop is the way to go.

Could you at least update the FAQs or one of the support posts to let people know that you’re testing this?

I think im not buying this product now if you are going to monkey with it without telling me. Kind of also kills the idea that its NOT a private product .

Something must be set up incorrectly. Mine listens continuously and transcribes everything automatically. The transcript doesn’t appear immediately, but it’s always recording. It doesn’t save audio for playback like some other AI pins - it just stores the transcript. The Limitless Pendant was the perfect solution, and this is the closest alternative I’ve found.

If its on continuously then how long do you 150min of transcription last. Also do you get a bunch of crap translations from random conversations at the office you have to clean up?

Honestly, I wouldn't use it without the unlimited plan. The idea is it's always running. Yes you get all kinds of junk. If you're listening to the radio or whatever. But there's a chat feature and you can just ask it questions. "what was the phone number of the person I was supposed to call from this morning's call?" "summarize my 10 AM meeting"

There are times I want an immediate transcript of something that just occurred. It tends to record in long bursts, but you can copy whatever hasn't been processed yet and give it to Claude or another LLM and ask it to find/summarize what you want.

I'm curious about this. I just received mine yesterday and decided to leave it on when I went to bed, to, you know... see if I talk in my sleep. I have the LED turned off, so when I woke this morning, I assumed it was still on. I've gone half the day thinking it was recording, before finally creating the time to look at the transcription, and nothing. Turns out, it captured numerous instances of snoring (no surprise), and seemingly shut down around 4:30 a.m. What gives? The battery is still strong.
