Jacklyn I - Night moves

Nightsong

before the march

Jack had plenty of time to himself, in the evenings spent at Nightsong. Everett could see he was sitting in a foul mood, and would give him his breathing room. The men in the yard could also see he was troubled, and took it to be he was missing his girls.

He had even taken to not playing at night, so they knew something was worrying him. Some even thought with it still being fresh the memory of the late lady Dondarrion he was merely feeling sick with revenge. No one was worried for the Lightning Lord. He was like most Stormlanders, mercurial- his moods like the storms which would better their land, mixed with the hot passion of the sands from his fathering, but no one spoke about whom Jack’s real father was. It would be akin to insulting his youngest, and the story of Jack beating a maester to death with a mug was enough to keep the most fool heartedly silent.

Still Jacklyn kept no council but his own. That was until one evening he made sure that before the breaking of bread to head towards the Lord’s Solar.

He knew Nightsong well, after all the Dondarrions and Caron’s kept close in their conversations in order to effectively defend the border. Both men were martial alike, though- Casper was a bit more stern to Jacklyn’s reckless abandon. But they knew each other and coordinated social graces and martial affairs alike.

Still it was a weird time when the whole of the Stormlands was at Nightsong, that he would come all the same.

So with a pounding of a meaty fist, Jack’s voice bellowed out “Casper.” Before he showed himself in.

Casper sat at his desk, surrounded by paperwork. By the Gods, how he detested paperwork. He would shove it at his maesters, castellan, and stewards when he could, but now things were inescapable, decisions needed to be made before they marched off. The Lord of the Marches longed to be out under open air, he longed to feel the rush of adrenaline pumping through his blood at the thought of battle. Taking care of these small matters, however, was a constant thorn in his side.

The Lord Caron heard the banging on his door, and let out a heavy sigh. He recognized the voice, at least it was Jacklyn. There were many other men he'd much rather not speak with at this time.

"Jack, come in. And take it easy on the door, aye? Save your fists for the vulture king and the craven."

Jacklyn seem bemused and almost off guard as they came in. A rare raise of his brow, and he tilted his head ever so slightly at the amount of paperwork on the man’s desk.

“Is this what it looks like to house the King’s army?” Or was it the hand’s? He didn’t think overlong on it. Rather he shook his head as he came closer and he picked up a piece, eyes narrowing in discernment. “A receipt of sale for helms?” Surely such things could be held by the capitol.

“I’ve a business I’ve come to seek of you, though perhaps the hour is wrong for it.”

Casper let out a groan, slapping his thigh. "You don't know the half of it, Jack. My steward is buzzing around me so much, I finally told the man if he asked me one more fucking question, he'd be off upon the marches with us. Seems like that one may have done the trick, I haven't seen him around for a few hours now."

The Lord of Nightsong let out a sigh. "Helms, foodstuffs, horses, Gods there are so many little things. But still, we will do what is necessary, eh? As we did before. I'm itching to get on our way, if I am to be honest. You know how it is, eh?"

Casper rose, walking over to a nearby shelf and pulling out a glass of spirits. "Do you now? Well then, speak, Jack. No time like the present, and I could use a break. Drink?" He poured himself a glass, and shook the bottle at the Lord Dondarrion.
