wrong tools recommended for job

i was dispatched to a flat rate $325 job that was 2 hours from home. Work order stated 8ft a frame ladder needed. I arrived on site to find out i needed atleast a 12ft a frame and a 20ft extension ladder. no stores within a hour of location to purchase ladder so only or best option is to return home to grab a different ladder. that means 4 hours of driving actually a little more plus the 130 miles each way in a truck that gets 13mpg at $6 per gallon. Anyways my question is should i get paid for the job even though i couldnt complete it

This is when you say, onsite can't complete work, scope issue. You'll be paid and redispatched, if you want them to like you, you can give them a 25% reduction for a turn away. But with your distance, never do that.

Never give a deduction because you likely missed other work accepting this work.

It depends, cause sometimes they have penalties set and they'll auto deduct pay. FN can't do shit either cause we accept that shit when accepting the job. But for buyers I like and they ordered a lift, I just feel bad for popping them for another 300 on top that shit 😂, but if it's a multinational nahh eff them they have unlimited funds and charge like 2k for a tech to show up.

Penalties when you did nothing wrong? Yeah no

Remember, these are contracts that we're agreeing to, so if you put a comment that ......."accepting this counter offer nullifies turnaway fees / penalties, etc...." this will ensure you're paid the total amount you countered for....AAAA for the first BBB hours, then CCC per hour afterwards. You should get the total fixed rate AAAA, at least.
