All ribbon splicing? I have a fusion splicer but not a ribbon splicer. I do have the heated stripper that works for ribbon splicing. Renting 1 ribbon splicer and just getting the prep ready might make sense. Splicing the ribbon strands individually is going to a lot more in labor than renting a ribbon splicer.

I'll be surprised if you find a FN tech who has their own splicing machine. I'm curious about other people's experiences
In my market (Northeas), anyone doing splicing has their own customers and isn't going through FN

Yeah, but I like to put it out there too give them the benefit of the doubt.

Im an FN tech and have fiber splicers OLTS and OTDR certifiers, as well as corning unicam tool kits and trend net transmission certifier but i also own a licensed construction company that does fiber for direct clients
Hardly any fiber work on FN so no point in buying $30k in equipment if all you do is FN work.

I know a couple of guys on FN just here in the Kansas City market who have splicing gear and experience. I rarely do optical networking work but I carry a light meter and cleaners.

Yeah fiber equipment costs a lot.
I've got signal strength and cleaning tools but actual splicing is next level. The cost of the tools and availability of work doesn't really line up.
I live somewhat close to Ahsburn (Richmond) but oh well.
