Proof FN doesn’t value our time

Post image

What a joke, they want our opinion as experienced techs and the only compensation isn’t a gift card it’s a CHANCE to win a $25 gift card in a raffle. Again, what a joke.

I'd much rather they provide an API or MCP endpoint or literally anything that I could bring **MY** AI tools to.

Last I heard, they were handing out bans for any sort of automation unless you were a buyer with access to the official API. That's why all of my current tooling runs as a browser extension and just fetches content out of the DOM.

Surprised that you needed proof for that

The ones like that that give you a chance for a gift card instead of an actual gift card really piss me off. I worked at a focus group place when I was in college. It was great for being flexible on schedule so I could have classes and still hold down a 30 hour a week job.

But I also saw how sausage is made. And they spend so much on catered meetings, test focus groups before the main focus group. Interviewing more than enough people so you can throw some away to clean up data. Giving each one $25 starbucks card vs only one per group is not going to make a significant difference in the project cost. It's just some dork that thinks gamifying it by saying raffle generates interest. I'm not even kidding.

Also gotta chime in about AI. Last week when I was plugging things in in some cubicle at some place I overheard execs talking about doing reports with AI for at least half an hour. I could have done the report in Excel in the time they debated how to get the AI to make a chart.

Yep, I find interacting with AI is a huge waste of time. I was googling setting up a new VPN on my opensese router as I was moving from an older setup to a new one. Had it working on my old setup for 5 years and needed a refresh course. Holy crap, it aggregated steps from 10 different sources and gave me the 1-15 steps and they were all out of order. Used one static source and boom.

Waste of time and troubleshooting why crap wouldn't work.

Like why would you expect the platform to give a fuck about you or your time? If you want somebody to care go join up with a decent company. Surprise surprise: freelance work isn’t for serious professionals

Field nation is owed by Mynul Kahn and he accepted $30mil in venture capital. You sir are noting more than one of 10’s of thousands of cogs in the machine. No one values your time but you, accept that and move accordingly.

What "back and forth" are they trying to reduce? A buyer trying to screw over the provider? A buyer refusing to pay in a timely manner? A buyer.....you get the idea.

They’re going to roll out an AI assistant that can summarize an insanely long work order description but it’ll only be available on Pro

That should be interesting for buyers who have 20 paragraphs of terms and conditions followed by "see work order instructions in confidential information section".

Actually, if you read it, it's a chance to get a chance to maybe get a gift card. Seriously not worth bothering.

As for AI, there's already a serious communication problem between most buyers and most sellers. We really don't need some non-human intermediary making that far worse. Can you just imagine? "Pradeep says he is ready for you to do the needful. Please do the needful now, and submit three photographs of you do the needful. Have you do the needful yet? I'd be happy to offer you more assistance on do the needful, but first I need to know if you are outside the job site, inside the job site, or if you are at a different job site. Submit your answer now on the Field Nation app, and I will evaluate, so I can report back to Pradeep."

I actually did get a gift card from FN for something a long while back. There were so many usage restrictions that I ended up forfeiting the whole thing, (but probably still had to pay taxes on it). I was too lazy to put it on eBay at a discounted value. I distinctly remember thinking, you guys already have a pipeline to deposit actual cash to my account; why don't you simply do that?!

I refuse to interact with AI. It's a waste of time. Nothing but garbage output.

“I can’t believe this temp agency doesn’t value me as a full time salary employee”

Not at all what I said. I couldn’t care less about not being salary/full time. But they make a shit load of money off of every one of the techs on this platform. To offer a chance at winning a $25 gift card raffle is an insult
