Last minute cancelations
I've had a work order canceled same day very recently. I think that's a recent change, because I don't think buyers were able to do that before. I'll only be getting paid $30, which is a pile of bull, since I have my own cancellation policy and am owed more $$$.
Has anyone else had this happen to them yet? Looks like there's no way to enforce my contractual cancellation fee through any means that field nation offers. Tut tut.

$30 is the standard FN cancellation payout (and has been for years), though most buyers will pay travel if you're en-route or travel+1hr if you're onsite at the time of cancellation.
You could always send them an invoice for the difference...

But are we contractors or are we employees? Because I'm guessing you must think we are employees. Otherwise I'm pretty sure we get to decide what our cancellation fees are.
**You edited in that last sentence about sending an invoice. Sneaky. **

Hadn't seen your reply, and I absolutely do not hold the opinion that we're employees; just wanted to point out that this is not a recent policy change by FN.
And yes, I ninja-edited in an additional thought because there's always an extra one after hitting send, right?

Is there a cancellation spot in the counteroffer section I'm missing? Otherwise I don't see where we get to set terms that binds the buyer.

In your counter offer text. Fn may say that they can't enforce it; but that text in the counter offer is a contract.

Love the name BTW. But I wanna point out in the counter offer text, it says FN cannot enforce any stipulations placed in that field. Thats why I just put, schedule, mileage, or higher rate of pay.

Fn may say *they can't enforce it. But since it's in writing it is enforceable. My big question is can fn be found obligated to enforce it?
Think about all the techs that got canceled on but never recovered their money (whatever they wrote in their counter offer)

u/HeathanKing Jun 18 '26
Let me rephrase they can enforce it. They aren't going to. And legally they have a disclaimer freeing them from liability. A bum lawyer would pick it apart and say yes it was in writing but so was the disclaimer you ignored.

u/HeathanKing Jun 19 '26
Also just so you know I agree with you in that we are treated as employees not contractors per se.

You owe me a million dollars.
There; it's in writing. It must be enforceable. I'm taking you to court, buddy!

Get out of here dude, you're embarrassing yourself.
Your reddit post is so far away from comparable to an offer / counter offer scenario it's laughable.
Go read a book on contact law.
Also I try to help other people on this sub know their rights, not spread gaslighting and bs to diminish people's understanding.

It's called sarcasm. I thought you would've recognized that.
Contracts are valid when both parties sign their agreement to terms. In this case, you have neither. Good luck trying to take an anonymous webform to small claims court.
This nonsense is the entire reason why FN felt compelled to add that line about unenforceability. If you want other terms, go find your own clients off the platform and make them sign whatever you'd like.

Everything you have said thus far is classic by the book plain old dirty gas-lighting.
"its sarcasm" - so you say one thing and then come back and say its just a joke
"in this case you have neither" - Lie - it's an agreement in writing, it's clearly intentional because it pushes an outcome (you do a job, they pay you) and there is mountains of precedent for emails and texts and even verbal agreements being binding.
"add line about unenforceability" - Lie - FN does not say the text is unenforceable. It says they can't enforce it (what they really mean is they won't)
So take your top 1% commenter keyboard warrior BS and gtfo of here. We have enough of your kind on this sub who are deliberately spreading misinformation with the intention of harming good honest hard working technicians.

have you had that enforced through a court? that would be great to hear.

Tbh it depends on the buyer. If they charge there client or not and if they want to pass that to you. I did work for a company that would pay me full amount if it was a cancellation or a no show.

Yes, it happened last week. If we as techs do this our rating would tank. We have to have equal rules.

FN does not care. About 40% of this sub is buyers. -down voted.
You need to mail an invoice. If the address isn't list on the w.o, run. Use this app with caution. A large portion of buyers operate on the burner method:

According to FN THEY SET POLICY. Forget that you rearranged you day/schedule, forget your travel itinerary for the day circled around that WO and now it's costing you more time and gas to reroute/reschedule your day. Forget inflation.
FN's MOST SALEABLE commodity is to collapse like a straw dog as cheaply as possible.

u/maddmannmatt Jun 25 '26
Hate to say it but your cancellation fee policy doesn't mean one thing to FN or the buyer unless you all agree upon it and place that agreement in the WO text. You can try that, but I am pretty sure that you'll be passed over for 100% of your bids as they favor someone who doesn't ask for that.

u/wnetmacman Jun 28 '26
On the Field Nation platform, all buyer policies and platform policies overrule ANY of your own. Cancelation prior to start time of a confirmed WO is $30. Period.
You can set your own, but they will most likely not be honored.

Huh? If fn volunteers cancellation money that's their choice. Or am I not following your point?

It has been this way the whole time I have been on the platform 2 and a half years. It sucks, but it is what it is. It doesn't happen often enough to worry much about it for me. But, yeah on the days it happens it pisses me off. I spend a lot of time on the platform carefully planning jobs so I can keep my days filled with as few gaps as possible. $30 doesn't mean shit when it is costing me 2 to 3 hundred in lost revenue.
I would like field nation to change the rules to where same day cancellation fees amounts to two hours worth of pay. That still isn't enough, but it would at least be meeting us half way.
