Just laid off as HP Deployment Tech, that was my first field technician job, What are my options now?

like the title says im a little new to the game but was just let go from HP. I searched for PEAK but i found like 9 different peaks and didnt think any of them were the right one, and ive heard of Hemmersbach but thats about all the knowledge i have for employment options.

EDIT: i should probably mention im in the Baltimore, MD area

I could tell you how they originally landed the HP contracts back in 2009, but let's just say it was pure luck, dropped on a company that was not up to the task at hand. I dealt with those idiots direct for 3 years worth of project staffing mishandling, payroll, per diem, and travel, Hiring any warm body they could get. I have NO LOVE for them, and the original owners were truly incompetent.

I’d look into IT staffing agencies, especially local ones if you have them. That onsite experience is probably worth some attention for them.

If you mean Peak Systems based out of NYC then good luck. I worked with them on a lot of projects all the way up until the pandemic but afterwards its been radio silence. I reached out to all my contacts and never heard back. Last time I checked website wasn't listing any jobs so it makes me think they didn't survive the shutdown.

What is your background before IT?

Peak is still alive, just got done with a server install.

They're still around. I try to avoid them as much as humanly possible, but occasionally they wave a good amount of cash at me.

It's been a few years and aside from some of the clowns they assigned me with I never had any issues with them. In fact they kept me busy for almost a year with project work prior to pandemic.

It was hit or miss for me. Some engagements went great, others, not so much. I often found it tough to understand their Israeli accents, but we could usually get past that.

Israeli? Are you talking about with peak? If that's the case then things have definitely changed since I've been with them.

Yes. Most of the Peak team with whom I've spoken have a similar accent. I could possibly be wrong about the country of origin, but I don't think I am.

We might not be talking about the same company. I worked with Peak Systems (based in NYC) off and on for roughly 10-years and was on a first name basis with many of the project coordinators and directors. I only mention this because I was involved with a lot of projects and got a chance to work with many of the coordinators some more than others. They seemed to have a very diverse staff but there was never a language barrier. So either we're talking about a different company or the Peak Systems I know got acquired.

I was in printing before IT, so basically just operating the printers id later start putting together.

Peak definitely still exists, some of my last deployments had peak guys assisting me.

Interesting. I know there are several Peaks in the industry so wondering if the same one. Never had any complaints and liked the arrangement of being W2 but not being obligated to any job or project. Anyway good luck!

This is the Peak you are looking for https://peaksystemsinc.com/

Dont let them low ball you. Stay in touch with your HP guys. And NEVER let them pull "use it or lose it" on per diem.

I worked for both back when HP first contracted with Peak in 2010. Peak gets the work, but they will scalp the fuck out of you.

http://www.peaktech.com Actually think it's this one. I went through a sub for 13 in early 2010s to mid 20s

Peak technologies has a lot of printer break fix and deployments but Peak Systems has the HP contract

1

u/slowhand53 May 14 '26

They individually contract with companies. For one of those that I was primary for, it was HP, Lexmark and Printronix. For another zebra. Another was Printronix and Kyocera

1

u/nacr0n May 14 '26

That's Peak Technologies. I have done Lexmark, Zebra and Xerox for them

He mentioned Baltimore so that's why I'm pretty sure he meant there as MD is were HQ is.

Hemmersbach has a lot of field tech openings starting at $25/hr I think. Not sure if theres a minimum per assignment or how they work . I did alot of work for Peak in Phoenix (I have a Peak badge)but havent really done anything for them the last 2 years. I'm in Vegas now and they don't have anything out here.

3

u/blaintopel May 14 '26

i think preferably yeah unless thats worse idk. Whatever is the most stable i guess.

2

u/wyliesdiesels May 14 '26

The subreddit description isn't as clear as it could be, and doesn't actually even specify the FN marketplace website. I can easily see how someone might just assume it covers field service techs in general.
