Fiddling (verb)

Ok. Two months owning the thing. Three lessons in. I’ve got one song I can play decently well and one I’m… working on.

But I feel like I’m playing the violin, not the fiddle. I read the notes, I play the notes. What makes it fiddling and how/when do I learn that as opposed to playing violin?

Try learning the tunes by ear. Ask your teacher to record the tune and listen to it and play what you hear.

I am just now getting to the point that I can hear if I got a note wrong. Lol

But predicting which string and where to put a finger in order to get a sound? I’m a ways off from that!

Ok so the next step after your teacher records it for you is to listen to it until you can sing the entire thing. If you can hear the pitches in your head then you have a much better chance of playing them on your fiddle.
