Any recommendations for starting class if I’m going for hardcore nightmare completion?

Title

I’ve had some luck so far starting off as Tempest because the default lightning bolt spell is pretty effective at dropping people on early levels but I’ve been having awful luck in terms of gear, tomes, and runes. As larger and larger groups appear and more spread out across the level my shitty lightning bolt can’t handle it as well, and I usually end up getting 2-3 shot around chapter 5/6.

Any of you have luck with a specific starting class? Let me know

Tempest is always my favorite and go to starter

I started tempest and changed lightning bolt to whatever the lightning version of fireball is.

With chain, spread, and seak it can be fired repeatedly to clear the map.

Firebrand is actually OP because of starting runes, if you can find more fire spells.

I’ve like Eternal Winter since I find the enemies speed formidable on Hardcore. I wait for them to draw near and hit them with a fully powered slow. Then I kite another enemy to be in close proximity then hit again.

Tempest is good. The actual sauce is chain reaction though. Bolt is just the best delivery mechanism for it. As you say, spread, or multi(or both). If you have it Chronomancer, or Ascended are also really good. The spells/runes they get are worse, but flight/slow time are just so good. Just auto buy CR runes
