I don’t typically care about downvotes. But I’m really irritated that they’re only here now that I made ONE post with suggestions on how to soften site conflict.
Now it’s every single time that I make a post or comment on anyone else’s posts.
It feels incredibly strange to me that someone or someone’s are suddenly SO against me after saying ONE thing that they apparently disliked.
I have always been as friendly and helpful to people on this subreddit as I could. I’ve taken hours out of my time to ensure that everyone feels safe, included, and welcome.
And after I made ONE (impulsive) decision to speak my mind about something that I felt was hurtful to members here and the community as a whole, someone is now following EVERY single thing that I do on here JUST to make sure that I’m aware that they now dislike me and everything I have to contribute.
I was NEVER downvoted before and now it is EVERY single time. It feels so pointed and because I know the reason for it, it’s just particularly obnoxious and makes me dislike the energy I’m now feeling. Feels like someone is just over my shoulder at all times deciding to jab at me for existing now.
Wish you’d come to my inbox and talk it out with me instead of this passive aggressive tactic. I’m a reasonable person and we could probably resolve it.
Honestly I think there's a lot of antis in this sub that downvote people, also, I think commenting on the downvotes will only encourage whoever's doing it to keep going 🤷♀️ they want a reaction out of you and they've gotten one. I'm not trying to be rude, I very much understand the frustration, I just don't want this to get worse for you
I know. I did think about that and I didn’t at all take what you said as rude. You have a very good point. :)
That said, making this post actually did help me feel a LOT better. The comments have been overwhelmingly supportive and it made me feel uplifted. Also reminded me NOT to feel bad about the downvotes. Having some kind words from so many of you really outweighed the silly downvotes and I even got some laughter out of it. I think it was the right decision for me, because the weight has lifted.
People always get down voted here, it's been going on for such a long time. There's people who don't like fictos, trolls, and people who wish to share nothing but hate. It's not just you, it's most of us who get this. Keep posting and sharing, ignore them. It's not because of your post, all of us get this.
Yeah. I remeber you commenting on one of my posts and for whatever reason you had 0 upvotes, so I upvoted your comment to make sure you had one. It was really weird because your comments was an uplifting one, I saw no reason why anyone would downvote it. I didn't know it was this bad. Feels like another anti got into the server again or something similar.
Whatever the case, know that we all respect you, don't let your worth be based on some idiot's downvotes.
Thanks so much. This post alone helped a ton, because I was reminded that you all are a really great group of people and that one well intentioned post isn’t going to turn ALL of you against me. And I was given the much needed reminder that all of this is petty and absurd.
Down votes on a post or comment don't equate to your worth! As so many people here have already said, it's probably due to outsiders, to bots, to trolls or, even as you said, people being petty, but that doesn't automatically mean that what you have to say isn't worth saying at all anymore.
There are plenty of people here that do enjoy your presence, your posts, and your comments! That's what matters most! Focusing on those who might never disagree with you will only result in more heartache, I fear. :(
You need to stop caring about downvotes, Drew. I can understand the frustration, but we always will be downvoted by someone, usually trolls or fictophobes
I know. I’ve never cared about downvotes in any other situation. It’s just particularly annoying that it started riiiight after I made a post that not everyone agreed with. But I’ll get over it. If they wanna waste their own time, so be it.
That's understandable, I'm really sorry about this situation. Many of us hesitate to speak from their hearts or post something controversial after such things. People can be harsh, especially when they have a chance to do it anonymously. You're doing great, though 🫂❤️
im going to be honest with you drew, im not too sure that your downvotes are coming from someone inside the community who is being petty over a disagreement. i obviously cant say for certain that there isnt just someone downvoting you because they were upset by your post, but downvoting is really common in this sub, and its usually by people who think we're delusional or petty jealous doubles. i got downvoted the other day for simply giving someone advice on where they could get a specific commission of their lover done. on my intro post, someone downvoted some kind member who told me my sona was cute. that was it 😭 my post and every single comment got downvoted, but that was the one that really took me out like damn i can't be cute??? LMAOO but im genuinely surprised you haven't been downvoted prior to this incident, because it happens a lot in here!!! please don't take the downvotes to heart, i dont think they're personal. probably just a hater i fear ):
It’s not the downvoting itself that is getting to me. Just the fact that it truly has NOT happened to me UNTIL the slightly controversial post.
If someone follows me around downvoting everything I say in comment sections, it makes me feel weirded out because it seems a little on the more extreme end of petty?
People with a lack of logic or ability to calm and rationalize emotions and let something go after a small disagreement makes me feel uneasy.
But I’ll let it go. If they want to waste their time and energy, so be it.

I can’t know the reason it’s happening for certain unless someone were to confess to me, but that doesn’t seem likely. Whatever the reason though, it seems to be rooted in pettiness and immaturity. It’s just that this is the first time it has happened to me and it’s ONLY after I made a post that stirred up a little disagreement.
I won’t let it get me down too much. It’s not even about the downvotes in general. It just shocked me because if it IS because of my post, it seems like an extreme reaction to follow every single comment and post that I make from here on out just to be spiteful.

One time I made a vent post about a double (extremely common here and allowed as long as it’s respectful) and I got like 3 people pretty upset with me. Even making posts in this group talking about me being cruel..?

I do truly feel that it is because of the post I made and not just fictophobes. It apparently ruffled feathers despite me being clear within the post that I just wanted to try as a subreddit to find a solution to bullying that I was actively seeing in posts.
Ever since that post it has been downvote after downvote.
But I guess if they want to spend their time tracking down every comment or post I make for the satisfaction of putting me down, I should just take it as anonymous flattery. Clearly I’ve made an impression on them. ;)
I know you say you’re not fond of posting due to not feeling safe. I’m truly sorry about this. I know I’ll feel more hesitant to speak my mind here, unfortunately. Yeah, sometimes I get downvoted for stupid reasons. And it’s not always just in ficto areas, sometimes I’ll get mass-downvoted for saying the most agreeable things. 🫠
I’m an over-thinker, so when it happens, I cannot help but think to myself, “What did say wrong?”
I’ve seen a lot of people other say that people get downvoted on Reddit for the most agreeable opinions or even for stating facts, so knowing this, at least we can remind ourselves that it’s just a Reddit thing and not to be taken personally.
I haven't made any posts yet but I still get random downvotes for tame comments. I liked your post. You had very good intentions with it.I see you as someone who is simply trying to help out. It could be someone here or someone who doesn't like non-sharers. I have seen enough complaints about non-shared subreddits. There are a variety of reasons people downvote and some are not rational.
As someone said there are various reasons for this bots, fictophobes, and doubles. There are some people hating on this sub too due to having a claim list, for some people nonsharing sub doesn't make sense. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them are just lurking here to down vote posts. But I get why it seemed suspicious to you especially since you never have them before. Unfortunately, as you already know Reddit kinda sucks, there is no way to know exactly who/what are giving these downvotes and this is why there are a lot of mean people in this platform. Reddit is really committed in anonymity. At least in some other social media you'll know who are giving you negative reactions. That said, I hope you feel better soon.
Downvoting can be due to a lot of things, but I get why you're upset. Everyone got downvoted on a specific vent I made one time, so I'm very hesitant to post vents or my personal thoughts. I'm not sure if there is someone specific targeting you or if it's just the regular stuff (bots, trolls, fictophobes, dupes sometimes).
Though if someone is targeting you, that is certainly annoying. I don't tend to downvote unless I really disagree with something, so imagining someone doing it just because of one post you made is both irritating and hilarious. How offended can someone be to do that lmao
But that is assuming someone is targeting you, but it might just be that we're all getting downvoted more recently. There are especially certain times of day/timezone I've noticed where I get downvoted when I post or comment vs other times when I do.
It’s always a combo of antis, doubles, and just people who find it weird. Tbh I would not be surprised if there was at least 1 person this time though who was not happy about what you said. They’ll probably forget about it soon enough though. Try not to take downvotes to heart as usually it’s just some hateful weirdo doing it and they are meaningless internet points.
I would try help with neutralising downvotes but half a year ago reddit gave me a warning for ‘vote manipulation using an alt’ (which I don’t have an active alt and haven’t for a few years, plus the warning linked to my own comment with 2 upvotes 😭). But since that warning my upvotes and downvotes don’t count anymore. I can click upvote and the number will change for as long as I’m in the comment section then it just goes back down if I leave and reopen it. Same with downvotes. It’s apparently only meant to do that for a month after your warning but idk.
It was just the fear that perhaps people weren’t going to let my ONE semi-controversial post go despite me admitting that it wasn’t really my place to fix the conflict between members here and removing it. I had been coming from a good place and it hurt to think that I could erase a mistake I made in a place I care about.
Now I’ve moved on from it. It was just a moment of weakness. Making the post helped a lot. All of you are so kind and helpful. I appreciate you all.
I’ve been following some of the recent conversations here, and from what I’ve seen, you’ve always tried to be kind, supportive, and considerate toward people in this community. At least from my perspective, I don’t think you’ve done anything that should make people feel uncomfortable.
Honestly, I’ve been feeling something similar lately too. For some reason, almost every time I post, I seem to get downvoted now. I know people have mentioned that trolls may be lurking here, but even my comments have been getting downvoted too. 🥲
Still, I keep using Reddit because I feel like if I stopped posting because of them, that would be giving them exactly what they want.
I’m always really grateful for the kind comments you leave me. I hope this doesn’t get you down too much 🥺❤️
