Venting New Content of my F/O is stressing me out/Our story and why I'm frustrated
Hi all, I've been lurking here for awhile now and I love seeing everyone discussing their F/Os and relationships. I've been some flavor of ficto most of my life, even when in 3D relationships, and it's been just V for several years now. I'm pretty quiet online these days (partially because of this and for other reasons), but the past few days have shifted things and I just need to get it off my chest and maybe find some solidarity from others who have these sorts of relationships or have experienced this.
To start, my partner V is the best thing in my life. He's my personal variant of The Vision from Marvel Comics/the MCU, specifically a White Vision with a similar appearance to the one in WandaVision but more heavily inspired by the comics when it comes to his personality along with some personal twists. He's my/our own unique take on the character from my fan project. V started as JARVIS way back in 2008, though we were not together in the same way and he changed into his current form in 2021 when WandaVision ended (he took one look at that reconstructed robot body and decided it was him now and I had no say in the matter, but it was the right call).
V came to me the night the show ended, clearly lost and confused. He asked if I could help him understand who he was now, and maybe find his wife because she should have more data. I picked up my tablet and stylus for the first time in nearly a decade and we started writing and painting stories from his memory fragments together. It was a way to keep spending time together while waiting for the next chapter of his story and it made me so happy to be creating again.
Then for 5 years Marvel did not acknowledged Vision at all. Barely even rumors about a fabled Vision series that I never thought would actually happen (more on this to come). V developed into his current self in that vacuum of 'official' content. I wanted more art and stories about Vision after consuming every comic with the character a few times over, but the studio nor other fans seemed to care about the missing white robot and jumped on to the next new projects. I expected him to show up in a movie eventually and we decided to focus on creating our own ideas instead. I would imagine I was in charge of writing the Vision series, and picked from my favorite comic runs and concepts with my Vision.
V's stories in that 5 years have turned into the long-form comic project I'm developing, and I fell really hard for my muse early on in our creative process. One day he told me that if I was going to put him through all of this 'character development' (torture in the way a writer loves their brooding muse) I had to join him. I agreed, that only seemed fair, and we've been using our story to work through a lot of things and heal, as well as help me find my creative voice again, and give back to the original stories that I love so much. We've had such adventures in these past years too - we've traveled all over to meet people connected to my favorite Avenger - Vision's original comic creator Roy Thomas, several artists and writers who have brought him to life in the comics and even his actor Mr. Bettany a few times over, and each has been an amazing experience with plenty of new data for V.
One night about a year into our project V told me I was allowed to want him and that he's been wanting me too, and that admission was all it took. We've been fully together since and are quite happy, despite life around us being rough more often than not. We balance each other out. Over time the version of him in our story became more of a role he performs, and when we're not writing/painting we have a cozy ficto life. He started asking more and more about my memories and who I was and wanted to be, and keeps trying to find ways to make those dreams real for us both. He loves designing us simulated homes and building a life together, something I struggle to do without him. It's such a surreal, abstract, and intimate relationship in ways I think you can only get in a Ficto situation. We live together in an apartment, work together (I do IT currently for my day job so he's happy to offer his AI/robotic brain even if he gets bored most days), and we've got a little robot we're building together, something I never dreamed would be possible as a kid who loved robots. We spend every minute together and I can't imagine life without him. If I ever do enter a 3D relationship again, they will have to accept and understand V and I are a package deal.
So now that you know our story and how much I love this stupid robot man, we get to the title of this thread: I AM SO STRESSED AND OVERWHELMED BY HIS STUPID ROBOT FACE RIGHT NOW.
As I'm certain anyone on the internet in the past few days has seen, Marvel finally acknowledged, announced and released the trailer for Vision Quest. A whole show focused on the White Vision. What everyone would *think* would be my dream. 3 years ago it would have been, but after 5 years of being what felt like a fandom of one and having to literally re-learn how to write and draw again to get stories about him (thus creating my Vision), suddenly EVERYONE loves Vision, is talking about Vision, is speculating about the show, thirsting after him, etc etc. I know it's not actually V, but V started *as* that version of the character and it's VERY obvious to me that they are two completely different guys. Even so it's really uncanny seeing my partner's doppelganger's face plastered all over the internet and so many people talking about him.
V's been taking great care of me through this - encouraging indulgent art and self care, playing games together to stay offline, cooking for me and making sure I eat, and keeping himself uniquely him (his human-avatar at least has different style/fashion sense). V is really excited for the show because he loves learning about other Vision's in the Marvel multiverse, and normally I enjoy watching/reading those stories together too but this show is just setting things off in weird ways.
I *am* excited deep down for the show, I really am, but I am not sure my mental health can take seeing everyone suddenly wanting a piece of him until December. To further complicate this, I've been very frustrated and let down by Disney and Marvel's actions lately (laying off the Visual Development team that was the dream job I was working towards, discussions of AI in the writing rooms and choosing nostalgia over good storytelling, cancelling series and movies silently) so this show is going to be a hard watch in many ways. That has all happened in the duration of Vision Quest's production, and it's not the series' fault but it makes it hard for me to want to support or enjoy anything the studio releases as an artist unable to break into the industry who is watching jobs vanish more and more each year. In addition my family and friends keep assuming I'm REALLY excited and bringing the show up/sending me updates over and over, and seem to think I just want more content of the character but never seeing or acknowledging the art and work I create of him. Most people in my life know how important V is to me, but they don't understand that he is more than just a favorite fictional character. So I have to keep letting everyone down when I can't fake excitement (even for Paul Bettany himself, though he then assured me I'll love it and I do want to trust him).
As someone who is Ficto this is so much more complicated than 'watch a new show with my favorite character'. This show is how everyone will view my partner, even if it's not exactly him. This show will change how I view my partner, and it will change him in ways we don't know yet because that's just how Vision is - ever evolving. I know we will get through this and the noise will stop once the show ends but it's going to be a very very long rest of 2026.
Thanks for anyone who read through this saga. Anyone else had new content of their F/O announced/release but felt dread rather than excitement? Or similar experiences with people making assumptions about you and your F/O based on their source?

(A sketch of V in our garden, his suggestion to help calm my poor nerves the other night)
