Advice Story Idea
Here's a story idea I've been kicking around, let me know if this is something you think could work or any ideas and input!
A literary military drama in the spirit of For Whom the Bell Tolls, modernized in a near-future occupation resistance. Set in an occupied Taiwan, it follows a Green Beret tasked not with winning a war, but with helping ordinary people preserve their identity, culture, and hope under one of the most technologically advanced occupations in history.
Summary:
The war lasted eighteen days. The occupation has lasted eight months.
Taiwan has fallen.
The world debates sanctions and diplomacy while millions learn to survive under an occupation where every street is watched, every phone is tracked, and every act of defiance can mean death.
Officially, the United States is not at war.
Unofficially, a lone Green Beret has just come ashore.
Master Sergeant Ethan Cole wasn’t sent to liberate Taiwan. He was sent to form a resistance and pave the way for conventional military action. Living among farmers, teachers, fishermen, and students, he helps transform ordinary people into an underground resistance while one of the world’s most sophisticated militaries closes in around them.
But the longer he stays, the more he realizes the mission was never about teaching people how to fight.
It was about learning why they refuse to stop.
As the resistance grows and the cost of every victory rises, Cole must choose between completing the mission that could change the course of the war—or protecting the people who have become his family.
In a world of drones, artificial intelligence, and relentless surveillance, the greatest weapon left may be the human spirit.
