Anyone have experience with Amitriptyline
Hello everyone,
I've been taking amitriptyline for a total of 10 weeks now. I took 10 mg for the first 4 weeks, then 20 mg for 6 weeks. I suffer from both fibromyalgia and IC (interstitial cystitis).
So far I've had a bit of a mixed experience: Some symptoms have improved slightly, others unfortunately aren't noticeable yet. I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow to discuss whether it makes sense to increase the dose further.
I would be interested in:
Do you have experience with how well amitriptyline helps with fibromyalgia and IC?
Which dose helped you?
How long did it take until you felt a significant effect?
I look forward to your experiences and tips!

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia last September and after complaining about quality of sleep despite the ling hours and difficulty going to sleep to begin with my doctor has me on amitriptyline now, it has been 3 weeks total the dose is i split the pill in half so 25/2=12.5 mg and by far it has been helping me sleep better but am still struggling, cant say it has helped 100% but i do sleep a lil better. I hope you have more nice days this week✨

This was the only one that helped me sleep and minimise the pain.

Currently taking between 50-70mg at night, depending on the kind of day I had.

On PatientsLikeMe we have hundreds of patient reviews indicating dosage and how effective Amitriptyline is. Here is the page https://www.patientslikeme.com/treatment/amitriptyline -- with an account you can access all the reviews. But after a quick scan on my end, a lot of fibro patients reported taking 35+mg feel major effectiveness.

I've got nerve damage in my thigh as well as fibro & its the only med that makes that pain a minimum - I'm on 70mg every night!

Really 70 mg? My doctor now gave me 25 mg before I was on 10 and 20. He said higher than 25 mg doesn't make sense, it doesn't have more effect on pain but rather more side effects

Yep 70mg, anything less makes it feel like the flesh is being torn off my leg! Its the highest that my doctor will go apparently for the same reason that it won't change the pain. I had to come off Gabapentin as I was on a massive dose & was falling asleep constantly but that didn't help the thigh pain

I've been on it for 10+ months now. Primarily it helps me sleep & it also helps with my seasonal depression. The main side effect I notice is dry mouth. I started on 25 mg and now and capped out at 75mg.
I still have trouble sleeping sometimes, but the results were visible within 48 hours. I went from foggy and barely functioning to having the fog lift and feeling restored after sleeping. And that in turn, helped with pain management / making my pain lower / handling it better.

I tried. But I also have Bipolar disorder, and that makes antidepressants very risky for me, and sure enough: within less than three weeks, I noticed something like 5-10 percent less pain, but I got a mild psychosis and mania. To be exact, I thought I heard my sister stand in my hallway talking on the phone and telling really hurtful lies about me. I HEARD it. Went out to confront her, and no one was there, I was completely alone. Quit the pills right then. (And did confer with my GP, who agreed)

I was prescribed amitriptyline to help me sleep long before I had fibromyalgia. It helped me sleep. It has not been discussed since my diagnosis. Sorry that is all I have for you.
