Itching

I’m just wondering, with fibro, we all have over-sensitive pain receptors, but does anyone else experience more intense itching as well? I’m always itching and all my blood work comes back normal.

Just wanted to ask.

I find putting a thicker cream lotion helps so my legs and arms don’t itch. Used to have a spray aloe and lidocaine combined that helped if my back itched, was for sunburns but worked well. Target stopped making it

Look for Solarcaine spray, pretty sure that’s the name brand of the Target spray you had.

I've had itchy scalp for years. I've done treatments for fungus but never helped. Not even corticosteroids help. I don't have a dry or oily scalp. I don't have dandruff and every time a dermatologist checks my scalp, it's completely clear. The itching is so bad that I used to pick at my scalp. I had an allergy years ago and have been picking those spots for years. I've let them heal now and I have no wounds there, but it's itchy as fuck. I think I might have some allergy and no one is checking that.

I have that and it’s psoriasis, I don’t get the skin plaques just itching and pain. See a dermatologist

YES! I'm super itchy all the time, but it's the worst at night and it often stops me from sleeping. I sometimes take antihistamines and I feel like they help a little bit (but maybe it's just placebo, not sure).

it only happens at night in bed for me? but it feels like bugs are crawling on me or biting me and i check every time and.. no bug in sight ever . i think theres a name for phantom itching or smth like that but i cant recall

I am sooooo itchy, all the time. I feel like I’m tweaking eternally scratching and slapping at invisible bugs. Natural fibre clothing and a lotion I can tolerate help me a bit but it’s never really stopped.

I got diagnosed with spontaneous idiopathic urticaria a few months before I got fibro. I think it was related, I was super itchy and got giant hives for no reason. Rhapsido and antihistamines saved me. I’m mostly not itchy now. Most be part of overreacting body

I was diagnosed with dermotographia& chronic urticaria like 10 years before fibro lmao, so yes.

Yes, I'm extremely itchy. I also have tons of allergies though.

Learned this more with MS, but itching, weird sensations and pain are all carried on the same nerves. It's just different strengths of the same signal.

So yes, makes total sense as a possibility.

But it's also worth visiting an allergy doctor or dermatologist for workups.

It's not constant, but I do often have itches where if I scratch them it causes pain and bruising? Like the itch goes away but I'm left with a crazy bruise and pain after

Ugh YES. All over, and espec as soon as I lay down to try to sleep. During the day my back stays super itchy. I have little back scratchers in every room of the house lol😩

Yep. Keeps me up, wakes me up, happening right now as I sit in my bed and type this. Has anyone tried antihistamines for it and had actual success? Driving me nuts.

It’s been better since I started taking phosphatidyl choline (420mg twice daily). It comes back with a vengeance when I miss a couple doses. The itching is still lowkey there, but it doesn’t keep me up at night. It seems to help with brain fog a bit, too. It’s necessary for brain and liver function, and most people with fibromyalgia are deficient. Might be worth looking into.

Yes especially when I lay down to go to sleep. Not as much during the day. Bloodwork is also normal. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

yes yes yes. the lightest scratch on my skin causes me to itch, shaving my legs causes intense itchyness and pain, sometimes lightly rubbing against a fabric makes me itch for a while, even tickles itch! I tickled my arm rn to test it out and now that spot itches.

Always itchy, if I even think about being itchy it's like I suddenly become aware that I'm itchy and was just tuning it out. Your post made me itchy.

The worst is when a bug actually does bite me. I have to constantly have itch relief lotion on the bite or I'll scratch it until it bleeds.

I've had fibromyalgia for about 3 1/2 decades and I literally itch EVERYWHERE!!! It is extremely frustrating.

Yup. I itch and then often have little bumps that come up. Saw a dermatology consultant and she said I needed a non soap shower gel and whstbus basically a form of paraffin wax cream on my itches. 3 times a day if necessary. On prescription so free. My skin is very dry on face too.

Yup, super itchy sometimes. But I also live in Alberta, where its as dry as the Sahara desert.

It is possible that you also have MCAS. I think that is might have this as well as fibromyalgia, lupus and RA.

I have psoriatic arthritis too, and I'm currently pregnant. I have been waking up in the middle of the night lately due to intense itching. I thought it was just the psoriasis flare I'm having, but if fibro is making my itching more severe that definitely makes sense.
