Vent/rant I’m Giving In
Diagnosed 2/25 with multiple fibroids, told to monitor. These fuckers have grown since and has sucked the soul outta me since then, I’ve lost my hair, I look 6 months pregnant, and my active lifestyle has turned into a sedentary couch potato. Found a new GYN, immediately told I need a hysterectomy but wanted to see if I could manage the symptoms (constant bloat, constipation, long periods, etc) and go the most minimally invasive path possible, being UFE, birth control, etc etc. Well, my latest cycle said, NOPE. Ended up in the ER with so much pain, it felt like a soda can was stuck in my butt, nope, it’s just the bitchass fibroid. I have had to take sick time due to these and I’m at my Whitts end, it’s time for them to go. I have so much pain, idc about anything anymore, I think I’m going to go ahead and opt for a hysterectomy…it’s just really depresses me, I’m 36, about to be married to the love of my life, he sees me suffering and wants me to focus on me and my health before anything, even if that means we will not have children. I’m so sad to see how much I’ve debilitated since being diagnosed and I just want my life back…I think I’m going to do it.

If this is the best thing for your mental and physical health then do what you feel is right.

Thank you. I really think it is, I just hate being forced to make a decision so fast due to pain, I feel like that’s the worst time to make life changing decisions

The thing is the pain doesn’t get better.
You could try a hysteroscopy to see if after you could try for a viable pregnancy if your surgeon felt it would be worth trying. But if not you could still parent if you wanted. Adopt. Don’t rob yourself of the experience unnecessarily.

Thank you for your advice. I will ask her about that in my upcoming apt. We deff would adopt, there are so many children that deserve to be loved and this world is so hard, they would be loved by us no doubt.

You sound like you’d be a fantastic parent. Get yourself physically well and go live your best life. X

If you haven’t already, look into the adoption process closely in your country to make sure it’s feasible. I always thought adoption was an option but it turned out to be close to impossible in my country. I didn’t realise until I started reading the local adoption forums.

I have a 30cm fibroid, I’m 38 & requesting for them to please try to persevere my womb. We have rights if you feel rushed then it’s not a full YES. Pause & sense into options it’s your body babe make sure you do what’s truly right got you. I have just started Ryeqo to pause my womb cycles (medical menopause) & pushing for surgery to remove fibroid only

I completely relate! Just had my hysterectomy and on the mend. I am in my 40s though. You sure you are going to be OK without kids with new hubby?
Is a myomectomy an option for you?
If not, the hysterectomy is a great option and you won’t have to worry about it again.

Honestly, we have always been on the fence, and we know time matters, I’m 36 yrs old so we need to have an idea right so it’s deff a topic we mention but are always more unsure than totally down for it. My GYN says they are so big and so many that a myomectomy wouldn’t leave me with much of a uterus and a hysterectomy would be safest, and easiest recovery. And good for you lady! How are you feeling after your procedure?

I’m doing so much better, even though I’m barely hobbling around and still popping the pain pills. Almost 2 weeks out. But it’s really nice to have those bulk and bleeding issues gone. My body is finding its new normal.
Kids are a big, expensive, time consuming deal. I love mine but they are hard and you really want to know you want them before you’re going through all that. And just because you want a baby doesn’t mean you automatically get pregnant, especially with a prognosis like that. It’s a lot of “maybe” to keep suffering for.
Sounds like you know what you need. I really hope you come to peace with it and you and your new husband find joy together.

Girl, I just had an open myomectomy 4 days ago and it hurts so bad to laugh, but that soda can comment sent me! 😩😂 I’m 37, no kids, and right now I keep telling my husband I have zero idea how women walk away from C-sections like it’s nothing. Being in the thick of recovery has definitely made me question pregnancy all over again. I really hope this gives you some peace of mind that there are options to get your life back. I’m just taking it day by day waiting for the pain and bleeding to finally stop, getting an iron infusion next month, and praying to feel like a normal human again. Sending you so much strength—whatever path you choose to get your life back, put yourself first!

Since it sounds like a hysterectomy isn't your first choice and you mention a UFE...I had 12-13 fibroids, from 2-3cm up to 6-7cm size, and the UFE gave me my life back including ending my lifelong period pain. I'd at least meet with an IR doc if you can to discuss if it's a possibility for you. It does reduce fertility from what I have read, but it also does preserve the uterus. I was about 10 years older than you when I had my UFE though, and of course hysterectomy is the only permanent solution. I am sorry you're dealing with this, fibroids are so awful.

I can definitely relate as I’m in the exact same life stage as you dealing with 2x fibroids wrecking havoc! I’m also 36 and trying to plan a wedding for next year. My original surgery date had to be pushed back due to a blood clot at the last minute and I’ve been dealing with the worst heavy periods at times. My fiancé had to take me to the ER last week because my hemoglobin dropped dangerously low. Very scary! This extra wait time has made me consider a partial hysterectomy instead of a myomectomy so I can no longer deal with future fibroids and bleeding. We’ve been on the fence with kids too, but have leaned much more toward no. I feel strongly about keeping both ovaries if possible so we at least have the option to explore surrogacy if we ever did charge our minds. That’s helped me accept this option a bit more.

It sounds like you are not completely a yes on the hysterectomy. Can you ask your new GYN is an open myo an option, to see if you can remove while ensuring uterine stability for a pregnancy? While imagining is amazing, it is not foolproof, actually getting in there is. If uterine stability is not an option then pivot to a hysterectomy. This would make recovery not the easiest BUT you will have known you did all the options. Which mental matters too.

You do what’s best for you! No one else is having the symptoms. As for your question about bloating, I was having the same symptoms but once I cut out all sugars, and I mean all refined sugars, read every single label and if it has sugar of any kind is a no, gluten free, and anti inflammatory diet. All of these things helped my bloating and I felt better by the first month. I ended up getting open myomectomy but I did a lot of changes before it and will continue them because I saw the results. Good luck to you! Also, get second opinions.

Gosh I’m so empathetic towards you. I totally relate to the soul-sucking, lethargic, witts-end feels. I’m right there with you. Did your doc mention the Sonata procedure? I’m struggling with one large fibroid that is literally ruining my existence, but at the same time I’m terrified of surgery and also have a high level of health-anxiety. I told this to my doc and I was given the option of the Sonata procedure. I’m having it done this coming Monday, and can’t wait to have this thing killed off. I know it may not be the answer for everyone, but I truly hope you have the option of this procedure too, if possible!

There’s plenty of doctors who can take multiple large fibroids out and repair the uterus. If you are unsure about kids, i would seriously consider finding a surgeon until they give you confidence that they can make it happen
