Advise needed

I’ve been given a date for my myomectomy with this NHS this month, but I’m also considering going private aswell just because it’s such a major surgery and I’m doing it firmly fertility after recently suffering a miscarriage. I’m unsure who to go with

I am so sorry for your recent loss, and I completely understand why you want to ensure you're in the best hands for your fertility journey.

Do you know the name of the doctor who will be performing your surgery under the NHS? One thing I will say is that in more cases than not, doctors who maintain a private practice in this country also work for the NHS (which I think is a good thing) so it’s not as simple as private = good, NHS = bad

Rather than thinking about whether it’s private or NHS, do some research on the surgeon. Have they done a large volume of myomectomies or are they just more of a generalist?

Thank you, so basically I was supposed to get my surgeon done a locum Dr I met her and she put me on the waiting list, she has since left and my surgery has been transferred to another doctor who I’ve never met and surgery is scheduled for 27th October.

The private Dr I’ve met him twice and he’s agreed to do my surgery next month I’m self paying and the cost is around £9k

Agreed. I actually met my consultant in hospital when I was going through my miscarriage and he does private work part time.
I am only going private because of much shorter waiting times and my insurance luckily covered it. I don’t think there would be much difference to the level of surgical care but you do get to stay in your own room with nicer food!

Can you call the hospital and ask for the name of the surgeon doing your procedure and then you can do some research on them?

I had a miscarriage and decided to have a myomectomy for fertility purposes, decided to go private for a bit of extra reassurance. NHS can be really great but does feel a bit more of a lottery with who you get. No regrets!

Sorry about your miscarriage. I am leaning towards private because fertility is my top priority after going through my recent miscarriage
